Zen actually comes from the word Chaan, which actually means Jhana. They focus purely on Jhana, but I find the zen and mahayanan community to be super vague/ambiguous whereas Theravada has the original scriptures and gives you direct instructions on how to get to the jhanas (in the anapuda sutta) and to enlightenment (in the satipathana sutta).
