I have my fantasies about the end of the world, but they are never as... grandiose as most men seem to be.

Let me explain.

I have a co-worker that fantasizes about a "zombie-apocalypse" where he goes down to Georgia and lives on a big plot of land that his family owns. In this fantasy, he becomes the lord of the area and has the "peasants" (as he calls them) serve him. Never mind that his "ownership" of the land would mean exactly dick in the event of a societal collapse.

Other guys dream of being the white knight, i have too from time to time, but that would be a great way to get yourself killed and what's the point in that.

My fantasy, one that i have turned into a short story, is of a man and his dog that is, essentially, one of the many villains of the post-apocalyptic world. He believes that the mass extinction of humanity was an attempt by nature to rid itself of the single most destructive species that ever existed. He believes that humanity was a disease that was destroyed by a plaque. However, as some people will survive, as just random chance would have it, he knows that if someone doesn't do something, the disease will return. As he moves from town to town he eliminates every person he comes in an attempt to finish what nature started.

So, in my fantasy of the collapse, i am the delusional villain.

all this talk about collapse is like talking about religion - there's no proof of it so why treat it as if it's a fact? not saying there's not a cultural and economic degradation going on but the words of the jewish supremacist james howard kunstler shouldn't be taken as the gospel. if by collapse you mean just an economic re set which will cause problems in the beginning but will smoothen out over time ..... that's always taken place throughout history. the future will likely be worse than what the present is but what that'll be is anyone's guess and it might not be what people think. if the truth be known - a cultural and economic decline has been taking place for well over 30 years now. i remember the early 80s on back and just about every town in every state had no blight and their down towns were thriving. there's no doomsday scenario coming - it's been here for awhile now but it's happened so gradual that most people don't see it.

if anyone read how life used to be in former commie countries, i think that's how the collapse will be. and no not venezuela, i mean the ones in eastern europe for example before the 90's. limited food, rationed and other stuff, limited ways of transport and ways to earn money, but you were still able to live more or less. unless there's a nuclear war on the ground coupled with emp blasts (nuclear bombs in the atmosphere) to fry all electronic devices, i doubt collapse will happen, at least to the degree some think.
