The current job I have I didn't need to deal with HR. After awhile I started to find jobs based on who I networked with and bypassed that vetting process from HR. Also, I still work in a very male dominated field in IT which I think helps. Also, it took 15 years but I finally work from home full-time but man is it less stressful. BUT I do miss the days of working in construction with my hands and always feeling like I actually accomplished something at the end of the day :-(

For me it's might be a hobby. For now it's for communication when I travel to remote areas of the US solo. It's a free class and a $15 test fee, so it didn't hurt to get a basic license. I don't plan on spending 1000's on equipment. Just 100-200 on a handheld and I will call it a day until I decide to get my general license. Is it unmanly that I get emotional when I am in nature? I went to Colorado this year and when I was alone in the mountains I wanted to cry it was so jaw dropping beautiful. I go mountain biking and I feel at peace when I am on the trails alone. Now I feel anxious if I can't get outside once a day. I am 35, have a decent salary, have my own place, and my own car. Started mountain biking and joined a karate dojo. I don't have six pack abs though :-( Lost about 35 lbs over a few years and want to lose more for myself and my kid(I'm divorced). Women have been a secondary thing for me lately. Dude, you hit that on the mark. I remember years ago a manager who didn't like me said I was intimidating his team with my size. I never truly realized how big I was till then (I am about 300lbs). I also noticed that women 5ft 3in and below tended to gravitate towards me more. I guy I was like a big teddy bear to them. Personally I would like to blend in more and not be noticed. Between my weight, height, and darker skin color I skin out like a sore thumb, lol.

Work in a dev house. It's mainly been all male for 20 years. We have one female PM and one female dev that works from home. Also, they are H1B workers from India so the culture is a lot different for the women. They usually don't talk to anyone unless they have to. They just stick to there work and go home. If they talk to males it's the other Indian male devs or IT guys like me when they need help.
