Rich people will get in no matter what. But a kid from rural Idaho with a 3.8 GPA and a 1350 SAT should get into Yale before a kid who went to a $50K/year boarding school with a 3.9 and a 1450. Education is a vehicle for upward mobility. A rich kid’s likelihood of staying rich is high regardless of whether he goes to a top ten or a top fifty school. I had an labor market class once that said males had worse educational outcomes because we had more alternative occupational options in our younger years so as the price of college increased a $25/hr construction job became a better and better option. There is an extreme lack of male therapists. I would love to have at least a consultation to float my hypothesis on some of my "trauma" that has caused me to really resent women as a group. I would say this is a double-edged sword though, because mothers who do focus on their careers are lauded as "having it all", while men who choose to become the caretakers are slandered. The real issue here is that at the end of the day women have optionality. They can choose to be stay-at-home moms or they can choose to focus on their careers. Men only have one viable option: work.

I didn't find anywhere in this report whether they normalized self-reporting mental illness by gender. There is more social stigma against men for reporting depression or self-harm so I would imagine that would need to be taken into account. Also, difficult for suicide victims to self-report.
