We got another one, Boyz! To be fair, they have a point. I see as many anti-women as pro-men posts. Let's fix that. This sub should be beyond reproach. A bastion of manly respect.

I'm sure this chick is a feminist, but under the terms of the contract this dude has the burden to pay for all dates? Oh and of course her last relationship was toxic. Based on her 17-page contract I'm sure she had no fault in that. Get the fuck out of here.

[–]AggressiveProblem654 38 points39 points40 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Just imagine how many "toxic" men she chose to date to get to the point where this guys shows up and she is demanding a signed "relationship contract" from him. I don't know a bigger red flag than that. Just say no and ghost them when they get demanding like this. Never worth it.

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points8 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

She also states it's been a success because 2 weeks after meeting they haven't fought yet...holy shit man, RuN

[–]xlerv8 5 points6 points7 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

He's foolish if he pursues that , dude needs to grow a pair and walk away!

[–]RingosTurdFace 4 points5 points6 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Don’t forget:

“a romantic gesture once every two weeks” and to work out “at least five times a week.”

Be interesting to know what she thinks of men who expect things of women, including standards on their physical appearance.

[–]Emanon-L 4 points5 points6 points 4 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

I'm just curious: Where exactly in the contract that says the guy has to pay for all dates?

[–]isleno[S] 13 points14 points15 points 4 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

"Within the 17-page document, Wright outlined all of her expectations for their relationship, which asked Head for no silent treatment, to pay for date nights and to not isolate her from her loved ones"

[–]Emanon-L 8 points9 points10 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

That is more like a paraphrase from the writer though, and not exactly her words on the contract. At the end of the article, there are some screenshots about the contract, particularly one section on paying for dates.

  1. Paying for dates

a. I know you are traditional and want to pay for everything but this is not feasible or realistic.

b. I will pay (or venmo you) for my meals that are not dates. These are times when we happen to be together and happen to pass a mealtime: like the drive through or grabbing something to eat.

If I interpret this correctly, she is actually against her boyfriend paying for all dates. She also suggests paying for meals that are not dates as well.

If there's anything wrong with my interpretation, feel free to correct me.

[–]isleno[S] 11 points12 points13 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Oh wow. I'm not seeing where you found that part, but if that is in there then the author greatly misrepresented the paying for dates part. That was about 75% of my issue with this whole thing that someone would feel so entitled and clueless to actually write it out that her boyfriend of two weeks was supposed to pay for all dates.

The other 25% is the old trope of blaming all past trauma on "toxic" boyfriends. Men are gaslighted for even uttering the words "crazy ex" and ironically accused of gaslighting when they try to assign any toxicity to female partners.

[–]Emanon-L 5 points6 points7 points 4 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

I'm glad we find a mutual understanding. I guess the problems is the contract does not clearly define what counts as dates and "not dates", which makes the writer confuse about how to paraphrase.

Edit: This is the screenshot that shows the contract. Hope that helps.

Honestly, apart from the "toxic relationship" crap that literally every woman spews, I think she would be good as a temporary girlfriend but make no mistake, she's only staying with him not because she sees the $$$. As soon as he's locked in she'll go back to Mr. Toxic because he's "all better now".

[–]Anxious_Parfait8802 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

She sounds like a complete dick

“We treat our relationship almost like a business interaction,” Wright told the Sun.

Lol what a fucking world we live in.

[–]isleno[S] 40 points41 points42 points 4 years ago (14 children) | Copy Link

He pays for everything and I let him have sex with me. It's a business.

[–]mikesteane 14 points15 points16 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

But can she withdraw consent at any time?

[–]ShiftyShiftIsMyHeRo 6 points7 points8 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Here's the kicker

[–]OblongConsistency 23 points24 points25 points 4 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link

Honestly, I don't even feel that bad for him. He's willingly going along with this, despite knowing (because he's a law student) that this contract will come back and bite him in the ass. There's a reason we don't have contracts for personal relationships as a norm in our culture - personal relationships are not transactional (or at least they shouldn't be).

[–]isleno[S] 18 points19 points20 points 4 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

I mean I honestly think her idea of writing out her boundaries is a pretty good idea, but then I see her sneaking in the bullshit about paying for all dates after two weeks and her blame of her last boyfriend and at that point I'm lost. Alao, if you're writing a 17-page document to handcuff a tinder bro after two weeks, you're probably bringing a certain level of toxicity to a relationship. There is a reason this story made it into a newspaper. It's fucking crazy.

[–]OblongConsistency 6 points7 points8 points 4 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

Yeah you make good points. I think writing out boundaries and having an agreement with one another is fine. But a contract is legally binding. That shit is fucking insane.

[–]NwbieGD 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

Don't know how it works in the US, but here in most of western EU I know that contracts can not have certain things if they go against regular legislation/law which can either make it entirely null and void, or just that section/part.

Like I can not write that I would be allowed to kill you, should you break the contract. I use this just as a very obvious example. However I've sometimes seen things in a contract that I simply know won't hold up legally (contracts from companies even). However since most people don't know that the writer/companies can't just put whatever they want they will still try to hold it above people's heads until you tell them that they should take you to court about said part.

[–]KissMyAsthma-99 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago* (6 children) | Copy Link

Private contracts between consenting adult parties should be allowed to include any clause that both parties consent to.

[–]NwbieGD -1 points0 points1 point 4 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Nope it doesn't, see my killing example, at least not here.

[–]KissMyAsthma-99 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Should be allowed.

[–]Extra-Strike2276 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

No it really shouldn't. You can convince people of a lot of things. The things I COULD do with legally binding contacts that override the laws would be insane. You can find desperate people offer them just enough, and make it so if it's not paid off within a certain time they are your slave. A lot would agree to it just because they think they could pay it off, or they wouldn't have a choice but to accept because of their situation. You could but small loopholes that most would overlook, or word it in a way that seems harmless. Just so many ways it would ruin a society

[–]KissMyAsthma-991 point 4 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Vehemently disagree.

[–]NwbieGD -1 points0 points1 point 4 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link

No there are reasons why not everything is allowed and that's specifically so companies that have near monopolies can't force consumers into tight spots or ridiculous situations.

Same as how it prevents other BS, that would allow for a ton of other shit, prevents (easy) money laundering, prevent the abuse of prostitutes that were said they would be dancers especially foreign one, prevent child pornography in a small part, and probably many other shit things I haven't thought about yet (prevent here as in it makes it harder or reduces legal options for it).

Edit, I originally had the same thought that if it was decided between two consenting parties that it was their own choice. However after having seen how and why, and knowing its not many things I understand. Basically you are never allowed in general to go against constitutional law.

[–]KissMyAsthma-990 points 4 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

None of your examples actually provide evidence against the argument. The porn one is particularly baffling, as they are not adults, so no scenario involves that being legal.

[–]BrokeMacMountain 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

it would be easier and cheaper just to buy a large melon amd put a hole a hole in it. That way you get dinner ANd sex! lol

[–]NorthHelicopter- 17 points18 points19 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

And yet a consent form is seen as strange. On the other hand this just takes the absolute cake

[–]dukunt 7 points8 points9 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Doesn't he get to make a contract too?

[–]adiaz0126 13 points14 points15 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Sooo..... she's a private escort that offers GFE, with a shitty business model, with an Iron clad contract? Is this OF next business model?

[–]auMatech 7 points8 points9 points 4 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link

relationship contract

Excuse me, what? Also, it's a 17-page red flag.

If he doesn't bail from that alone, tough shit.

Edit:

“I made the idea as a joke, then he said, ‘No, seriously. We can do that and talk about it,’ ”

...

Additionally, she asked for “a romantic gesture once every two weeks” and to work out “at least five times a week.”

Haha holy shit. OK fair enough.. No compassion from me

The interesting thing is that these people don't realize that relationships change over time. Unless you're constantly redrafting the contract, the relationship is doomed to fail if you keep adhering to it. You and your partner will have different needs 2, 3 or even 5 years down the road, and a healthy relationship will adjust to those needs accordingly. When you put rules like this in writing as a contractual obligation, it takes the relationship to an unhealthy level, because it can force either party to be required to do things that they might not want to at the time, purely to adhere to the contract (don't people like to go on about marital rape all the time when discussing 'historical oppression of women'? This is that.)

Anyway, as a law student, I would have figured that he'd have more sense than to do this, but good luck to him.

[–]geekie30 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

To be fair, Devil's advocate maybe, but still, at the end of the article she does say they revisit it every 6 months. If they do it well enough, the changes in the relationship might just as well be taken care of.

Well, I doubt it, but...

I agree with pretty much everything else you said.

[–]mrmensplights 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

A contract is a binding agreement between two parties - one that represents both parties interests. This isn't a contract. This is a 17 page attention getting device written by the woman, about the woman, and underscoring her needs and expectations alone. The pathetic dude who sticks around is going to be in for a rude awakening one day when he realizes that this screed is in no way binding if she's fucking some other dude or emotionally blackmailing him with more self servicing bullshit.

"I don't know why more couples don't do this".

They do. It's called sitting down together and discussing your hopes, dreams, and aspirations together. Almost all couples do this. What couples don't do is to totally avoid that discussion and process by drawing a one sided document in the 'aesthetic' of a legal document. Heartwarming.

This belongs on a cringe subreddit.

[–]0815Username 4 points5 points6 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

So basically she was shittesting him and he went along with it. Cough honesty cough communication. I don't see how this relationship wouldn't work out when he is a doormat that has reduced himself to a wallet.

[–]seahawkguy 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

It’s just until he gets through law school. After he graduates I’m sure he’s gone

[–]miroku000 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I hope as a lawyer he is not negotiating contracts for clients. Or I hope he also has his needs being met in the contract.

[–]AirSailer 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Objective #2: Communication A successful and strong relationship is not build in silence

Boundaries 1. Prying: A: when I am ready to talk I will. As you know I will go silent when I am upset

[–]isleno[S] 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Where is everyone finding these details? Is the full contract posted somewhere?

[–]AirSailer 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

At the bottom of the page, before all the ads, are 5 images of the document.
