Or perhaps he genuinely views those kids as his own (despite not being biological) and loves them and wants them to know he will always be there for them no matter how he feels about their mother. I'm glad for it, but honestly very worried that the toxicity that is almost inevitable over there is nonetheless going to spill into the conversations in this sub. Or at the very least drastically change the dynamic of this community. I have trouble with the sports one. I can see the entertainment value there, especially for someone who participated in the sport themselves. Where the line gets drawn for me is with those who actively obsess over following the sports (especially through social media and betting) and those who allow the outcomes of games to affect their lives personally.

Youll have to forgive me my limited experience with video games. Ive only encountered the low value mass media category and heard via word of mouth from admittedly addicted gamers about games with stories. Coming from sources like that it can be difficult to give those statements credibility. I appreciate the perspective though. It's reassuring that there is decent gaming media out there. I'm sure that it makes all the difference in the definition of "female gamers" vs "male gamers"

Yes I think it's fair to say that most* video games are not inherently bad. Though the activity on a whole could be argued to be low value- let's be honest, what is really gained or how are we made better by gaming. I don't think that every hobby you have even as a HVW must be HV itself, but it's that self regulation you mention that's important. Edit: added "most" because some games do have bad messaging which promotes violence, pornography, etc

I have to add here that this is not solely men.. I know for a fact there does exist a community of women "gamers" who make it a toxic part of their identity in the same way the men do. One thing that always bothered me about my LVX was that he would wear wrinkled clothes out of the house without an ounce of shame or single thought about it. I take great pride in my appearance and even then, in my pickme days, I'd tell him that his company was reflecting on me when he dressed poorly or sloppily, especially if we were out together. He never cared and would only begrudgingly change if I "nagged". I don't stand for that behavior any longer.

I have had some horrible frenemy roommate situations and the depression, stress, and anxiety I experienced thanks to those people literally manifested itself in an allergic reaction. It was terrifying and painful and no laughing matter at the time, but since I've cut that cancer out of my life, my mental health has improved 100 fold. Now I look back and laugh about it because I'm literally allergic to toxic people.
