Because your response is overly emotional and dramatic. Everyone knows the score, but you are still trying to change the result of the game with that response. Further, it's pretty hard to claim assertiveness when you text 'let me know..' anything. If she wants to get back onto your radar, she'll do it. Calling women out on their shit doesn't accomplish anything - accept the rare honesty of her response to you (LJBF), and move forward. By saying 'we are' you are basically letting her know that t…

In for a penny, in for a pound. What else can she do now but continue down this path? On a side note, I wonder how senator Kristin Gillibrand feels about having Mattress girl to the State of the Union now that her piece de resistance C+ sex tape of her purported rape was released.

I'm going to ignore the fact that you are wondering why a girl was put off when you were shitting yourself, but in general the order of preference for sex for girls is something like this: They get off, You get off You get off, they don't They get off, you don't Neither of you do. You might here a girl argue against this, and it might see counter-intuitive (the male order is definitely different) but you have realize that ultimately most girls are pleasers, and women can take satisfaction from k…

Generally speaking girls have 2 moves: Look at you Stand near you They'll approach guys they've deemed very high SMV with the goading of friends or drugs/drinks, but it's very rarely deft or smooth. A corollary would be on things like Tinder, the majority of girls will rarely open with something other than 'hi'.

3 thoughts: First: The oft-touted "fake it till you make it" is advice that only goes so far. It's the equivalent of wanting to go on a road trip with a car that needs an overhaul, and only giving it a new coat of glossy pain This is wrong. It means put the glossy paint on while you save up time and money to fix the rest of the car, and maybe hold off on the long road trip for a few shorter ones in the interim. The point is be realistic about your abilities while putting your best foot forward. …

I suspect many here will try and hand-wave this off as 'you just need more game or SMV' to think that money doesn't matter into adulthood, but it does. You can get laid into your 30s without wealth, sure. It won't be as easy as in college - better logistics aside, she's out of the collegiate bubble which insulates her from true competition you can't match at 23. A lack of money also hurts your ability to retain, which may be good or bad depending your goals. Girls get savvier too, which is well-…

If they that successfully manage these instincts then they aren't true 'dark triad' or whatever definition that lazy trp lingo intends to cover. As I said earlier in the post, study it to learn how and why it works, but pure emulation of psychopathy is exactly that, emulation. You can't really fake psychopathy - its a constant 247 stream of machinations which is rarer than the 'omg I'm such a psycho' overuse crowd realize. In any case, even if they were savvy enough to put up facsimiles and faca…

Exactly. Women don't do these things because they know you'll come around and fix it for them. They feign being impressed as their part of the process to stroke your ego for doing a free service. See a girl without any options (by circumstance or whatever) and you can be sure she'll google it or do whatever else to get it done.

Correct, DT is not an aspiration - it's a outline of an extreme. You should be more interested in why it can be successful and learn the lessons, not to emulate it in full. Every DT person I've spent significant time with, and there's probably 4-5, burns bridges and ends up alone until they can glom onto another group of marks or enablers. It's an incredibly short-sighted approach and will ostracize you from the vast majority of people over time. Hope you like moving city to city every 18 months…

This is pretty bad and has a 2edgy4me vibe that's sadly endemic here these days. Your history is not very good -it's overly simplistic and like anything nothing is that cut and dry. There was again no reason to force women to work in these brothels, lots of willing women willing to work there to make easy money. No reason? Essentially, you've never heard of extenuating circumstances. WW2 was one if I've ever heard of it. Most modern people have no sense of the level of deprivation of food and re…

There idea of subject matter expertise doesn't have a sex, nor does being a kibbitzing idiot. I mean, if you're girlfriend is a landscape architect I'd trust her word on shrubbery over yours. When people talk outside their expertise or knowledge, I don't think it's necessary to give this 'problem' a sex, it's done by both. I assume in your example she's well-intentioned, in which case it should not be a difficult sidestep if you think her financial advice is unsound. If she's not well-intentione…

Similar to this is the kidnapping 'firms' in places like Mexico. Essentially professional kidnappers will take a person and set a ransom. If it's swiftly met (as people are want to do when a loved one is kidnapped) they then raise the amount. The logic is as you have the means to get that much money quickly, you can get more money later. They have the time to wait, and will keep the person alive to get a higher payout 6 months down the road.

It can be seen as narcissistic and vain, as it's 'forced'. I'm not saying you'll have no luck going that route, I think its more artfully done if it seems to be more incidental, like of course I'm shirtless I was at the beach (though still obvious anyhow as to why that picture was selected, but that's okay). Obviously a girl disliking selfies could very well be hypocritical, but that's the way of the world. In general, I think selfies work better for women as their looks are their currency. For …

Get to the point where you can confidently put a shirtless picture (at a beach, on a boat, whatever, not a selfie or flexing in your mirror) and know that it'll be positively received vs neutral or worse. If this is too gauche for you, do a tank top shot where the arms are exposed or a form fitted tee shirt/something that demonstrates physical attractiveness. Other pictures should be a mix of the following: -Dressed to the nines -In a cool foreign place or geographically impressive one (top of a…

The one girl seems harmless enough, just misguided. She's doing this comedy thing because too many dudes politely laughed at her 'jokes' (because she's HAWT) and she decided she had more of a knack for it than whatever useless thing she majored in. On the other hand, Deadeyes mcChubRollz is the sort of girl that you pick up at the late night pizza stop versus in the bar. I can't imagine the amount of 'why not?' bangs she's gotten. What a joyless slob.

The well worn aphorism here is that women are the gatekeepers to sex, but men are the gatekeepers to commitment. Both have to play the hand they're dealt. I think ultimately this is a little bit of an issue of semantics, because I view a FWB as exactly that, someone you enjoy spending non-sexual time with. I see the progression as follows: hookup --> A booty call (repeated hookup) or in trp-ese plate --> FWB (you're doing other things together) --> LTR (add exclusivity)

Fake tits are not fun to actually be with in bed. I've only slept with maybe three girls with them, but when you're on top it feels like there's a beach ball between you and them. While with 'tasteful' smaller ones the feeling's reduced, I always felt fake tits were for everyone else but her boyfriend/husband. After all, they look great in a tee shirt. As I said earlier sounds like she's into you (and older, which is a separate convo) so I don't think you can derail this too bad, but every additional interaction is a potential fuck up. I think you're pushing too hard to be phone playful and impress her as someone who's in charge - it's not needed and just papertrails any missteps she can then ove-analyze with some girl friend. Just take care of business on the date - lets us know how it goes.

Even if you had fucked, going super sexual first is probably not necessary. It's the right move occasionally, but save it for in person generally speaking. From your post, it sounds like you've got this in the bag, but in general, girls like the game, the teasing and the anticipation. Play into that. A few ideas: "You can start with a nice tall whiskey when I get there" - give a command, she was asking for one. Girls who are interested in you like being told what to do. You're not texting 'bette…

The issue is you are sending her mixed signals, that's why she didn't say it back. You say you don't want a relationship, but proceed to see her for 7 months. It's unlikely that over that length of time you were routinely signaling that it was just casual. Plates don't last that long, the majority of women will push or shove by then or find a guy who will treat them like a girlfriend, which is the price your casualness may incur. That aside, you drunkenly tell her you love her, and it only confu…

I'll do part 1 and depending upon response/approval, move to the others: Question 1: ”Are you a player?” No, I just have a loyal fan club. Question 2: ”Yeah, I bet you say that to all the girls..” (side note, 'I bet you say that to all the boys' is an excellent pressure flip sentence to get them to qualify whatever they've said) Only because it works Question 3: ”What’s the matter? Most people go overboard on the vulnerability, or misinterpret it. It has to be earned. You want to demonstrate that you can be emotionally available, but it happens rarely and only with 'special' people. Its not a demonstration of 'weakness' or frame loss, but showing things can affect you, just like they can affect her. Easiest place to apply something like this is after she's told a emotionally involved story about loss, fear or whatever. You commiserate (note, not one up) with one of your ow…

I feel like we're missing a lot of context as to what led to such a cartoonishly awful thing said, as even a pretty solipsistic narcissist would realize that's the equivalent of fighting words. For me it'd be a ender, not for a sudden insecurity (gotta get over the fact that odds are you weren't the first), but for the blatant disrespect.

I'd like to frame the idea, which I mostly agree with, as a a necessary evil you all need to learn to negotiate because it's something you'd want when it comes time for a family. A juvenile nature has some great benefits, despite some trying elements. It's playful - when people ask why you want a girlfriend versus less, that mirthful quality goes a long way. It varies. It is possible become a better girlfriend after getting rid of shittier habits - if not, all the self-improvement talk here would be a waste of time. Girls are perfectly capable of doing it too, but in the same way you may tell a boss what he wants to hear versus what you think, that can be the case with 'the cool girl'. It's a generally a poor move to date a woman older than you, especially if you're relatively new to dating. Hell, even peers can be tough, as women are generally far more social adept and experienced. Think of it like this, a really attractive 18 year old will get more sexual attention in a week then most of us get in a year. This compounds over time, and the reality is that in college very few men are truly social-sexual peers to their girl classmates. Your ability to have the upperhand only be…

You'll hear feminists, manginas and their ilk talk about how men demand 'ownership' of women's sexuality and how wrong that is. You can LTR any girl. This is a rehash of the 'can you marry the girl you met in a bar' debate which pre-dates Tinder. Most girls have been at a bar at some point in their life, the same way most girls have dabbled in online dating. All the other things which qualify a girl are to be considered, and can easily eliminate the 'but we met at xyz' concern. That said, you're odds are appreciably lower than other venues.

Women's self-defense courses are run by grifters who profit off of ego assuagement. Contending that they can train a woman to effectively defend themselves from physical assault without mace (which would still be of limited effectiveness as its possible to miss and is not guaranteed to incapacitate) or something similar is an illusion of safety they're paying for. I lived with a girl for a few years (roommate not girlfriend). She was a tall pretty brunette. At the time she had just begun dating her boss, but was understandably interested in keeping it quiet. You can teach a girl how to be an above average lay fairly easily, if you have the experience. The 'boring' is an indictment of you as much as it is as them. Lead well, they'll follow. "I like it when you do ____ when we have sex", if she's savvy she'll work that in more. Rinse and repeat. That said, virginity has a past-due date. It's better to ask for forgiveness than permission. 'Oh well' is better than 'what if'. Women respect decisiveness, even if they aren't interested. The key is don't be a butthurt whiner or worse if you get rebuffed - accept the answer and move onto other girls. First, it's a concept - it's not even in production. Second, if you've even babysat you'll recognize that this is meant to illustrate a possible solution to the problem that travelling in a car with a baby can create. Getting the kid in/out. Being able to provide the necessary attention to the child are all issue…

Check the post format rules for the subreddit, and I'd say you have to edit this to reflect them. On topic, Wilde famously said about the work: "Basil Hallward is what I think I am: Lord Henry what the world thinks me: Dorian what I would like to be — in other ages, perhaps" That's really all you need to know about who the characters are - Basil reflects the fears Wilde had in life, Henry is a caricature with elements of truth - Dorian is a archetype. More info here Oscar Wilde is one of the gre…

My take is that this is way too hardline and the kind of overthinking shit that'll hinder your growth. "Alpha body language" needs context to be effective. Good posture is always right, but if you mean-mug every dude you encounter you will get socked in the face eventually. Smiling defuses this tension. It doesn't mean you're weak, it just means you know what's worth fighting over. A bench press isn't one of those things. The smile can equally signal 'this isn't that important to me' as much as …

I think that Carly Simon's "You're So Vain" is probably the truest thing to the form, though it never once says 'I love you." It's essentially the alpha widow anthem, widely considered to be about Warren Beatty, a legendary womanizer (take a look at the list of just famous women he dated) You had me several years ago when I was still quite naive Well you said that we made such a pretty pair And that you would never leave But you gave away the things you loved and one of them was me A bit more: I…

You should feel pity for people that can't get past short-term gratification and poor impulse control. They'll never be content as all joy in their life is ephemeral. That said, negative losers like this should be excised from your life as soon as possible. It may be tough to eliminate your mother's role in your life, but greatly reducing it should be something you can achieve.

From the intro: I am here to say, for better or for worse, the frame around public discourse is a feminist frame, and we've lost our identity because of it. But this isn't the end of the world. The world is changing, but men are still part of it. We just need to make sure we're changing with it. It's too easy to blame feminism for our troubles. Men, our happiness is our responsibility. Culture has always shifted, it's dynamic and fluid. It has never and will never stay still. Feminism was inevit…

What I get from this is that you're effectively displaying vulnerability. Most people go overboard with vulnerability, or misinterpret it. It has to be earned, and yes best after you've already been physical. You want to demonstrate that you can be emotionally available, but it happens rarely and only with 'special' people. Its not a demonstration of 'weakness' or frame loss, but showing things can affect you, just like they can affect her. Easiest place to apply something like this is after she…

There's also something to be said for the idea of penny wise, pound foolish. The extreme-saver types can tilt to this side of the argument past a certain point. If you don't allow yourself the opportunity to enjoy things your income can afford, why are you working so hard? I agree with the sentiment that spending wisely should never go away even as bank accounts rise, but at a certain point things are worth the extra cost. Being successful means you have to outsource services like laundry, house…

The Alpha/Beta dichotomy is a teaching tool not an accurate map of human behavior. It was never suppose to be analogous, rather demonstrative of different behaviors and their subsequent results. If you choose path B more frequently then path A, you'll wind up on that side of the spectrum. TRP is about helping you identify which behavior is which so the preponderance of your action finds you on the A side, which serves you personally the best over time.

The best thing you can really hope for is a girl that you can inspire loyalty in. Much has been written here about the differences between men and women and that women are 'incapable of loyalty' - I don't think this is true, I just think it's far lower on their priority list. In order to raise it, you have to inspire them to make it more important. Girlfriends don't want to cheat, in the sense of if they declare you as 'their guy' that's really all they want, however capricious the decisionmakin…

You always have to be willing to let her walk. There's always other girls. Honesty helps too - you enjoy spending time with her, but aren't interested in something exclusive. This means she's free to end the arrangement whenever, and this means she can see other dudes. To be frank, you have a surface understanding and need to read and learn and absorb more, then things would be so simple to you and you'd be less inclined to pen this 'gotcha' post. Rollo wrote about this, but TRP isn't prescriptive, it's preventative. It's about laying bare the realities of the world. No one can tell you that you should or shouldn't do anything, all we can offer is the truth reality reinforces. Marriage can work, but its a far riskier proposition than most men realize. If kids …

OP won't like my take, but that whole scene always struck me as corny as hell. You're formalizing the state of nature between men and women with goofy labels. I always assumed the men involved hoped they could climb a few points in the sexual marketplace hoping to encounter a woman who's never been properly fucked, so she's unaware of what actually turns her on, and hopefully also her true SMV. Women have less testosterone, and subsequently don't have the same intense, prolonged sexual appetite that men do. Think of horniness on a scale of ten, if you think the peak is at six, you'd have a hard time fathoming a ten. This is pretty simplistic and not exactly scientifically exhaustive, but this link backs up the general assertion that sex drive is tied to testosterone http://www.nih.gov/researchmatters/september2013/09232013testosterone.htm

It's unfair for men in that it takes a long time for most to raise themselves to the value needed to have a lot of success. Women are generally born with their SMV. It's unfair for women in that they peak incredibly early, slowly decline til a precipitous fall into the abyss aka 'the wall'. The fit, well-appointed man continues to date beyond this point. Women's effective dating life ends much sooner than men, this is the equalizer.

A lot of haute fashion buyers are mediocre women trying to emulate 'cute' looks which are entirely unflattering. They compare their appearance to the models who showcase these outfits and remain attractive in spite of these dumb outfits, not because of them. To repost what I put on what I imagine to be the inspiration for this thread: Get this persecution BP whiny shit out of here. Your frighteningly off the mark. You have some communistic 'from each according to ability to each according to need' view of life that is going to leave you severely disappointed. If you think being brown is this unrecoverable detriment to life - it fucking will be. If you think you're only going to receive the worst outcome possible, you will. Fatalism gets you nowhere.…

You're lost for a lot of reasons, but the big one is: You don't want to be dark triad, and no one should aspire to be. Simply because elements of it are effective doesn't mean it should be a goal nor is it the only way. Manipulation is simply the negative connotation version of persuasion. Obviously being at your mother's house has affected your confidence - so regaining independence is imperative. In any event - you have a long way to come as far as understanding trp - I don't know what the sol…

Your asking what does it take to get laid in a more competitive environment? Be better and rise to the challenge. You want the best, you have to earn it. There's no secret code or shortcut. You've identified that women will be less wowed by you grabbing the check, or having a 'nice' car. Okay, so focus on other aspects of yourself - what you do, what you look like, who you know. Those are more wealth-independent. You will fail more in this environment than others, but that doesn't mean success i…

Good stuff, and just so you don't beat your one trick into the ground, a few other ways to do essentially the same thing: Any sort of admonishment: 'Is that how we ask for things?', "Now now, manners manners", etc - the same way you'd correct a child. And you could be hit by a car in the next hour and die. If you want to live life to the fullest there will always be risks - frankly accidental pregnancy is far more likely and would be a greater worry (wrap it up). This post is on the money, and should not be confused with the AF/BB dichotomy/teaching tool. It's more nuanced than that, there isn't a winner and a loser. Normal Tinder works just fine for dudes that all women want, so does going to a bar, or walking down the street. They don't need specialized apps. If she pointedly asks why your approaching her, its a massive shit test. If the answer is to try and sleep with her, don't tell her anything else. Reality is laid bare to those who open their eyes to see it. Women are a lot more forthcoming than many here realize - hypergamy & dual strategy isn't insidious as much as unspoken (you either 'get it' or don't). Be non-judgmental to how it is, and you'll be told the truth, conscious or unconsciously.

This is a really, really good post. It's an accurate picture of the dating world by someone who's clearly spent some time in it (something a lot of RP posts lack). The shifting landscape given the risen of smart phones & dating/socials apps is impossible to ignore. What can I add? Smart phones help knock down night game initially, but their present day over-reliance has actually given night/direct game a boost. Altruism isn't real - your doing those things for yourself, not the strangers. 'That feeling of satisfaction' you get is a reflection of that. It's self-satisfaction. If that reciprocation didn't exist you'd be less inclined to be so munificent. My point was unfettered charity isn't really that unfettered.

So a lot of 'game gurus' and what not talking about the ease in which they can bang the coveted college set, even well removed from the scene. It's an obviously appealing hook to get people interested in whatever they have to say, as the vast majority of men bumble their way through early adulthood figuring it all out, only to miss in their eyes the prime 'slaying' years. This wistful mentality is a primary driver for why men consume this type of media, from field reports to boot camps to books …

You're caught in: semantics (real alphas - it's just a word, you went to a biological definition as some sort of trump card) shaming language (tail-chasing boobs, sexually frustrated), overvaluing anecdote (knowing 'serial lotharios' that somehow don't measure up to JP Jones's standards or whatever). All of this show you didn't really get the true point of the sub. I'd guarantee the subscribers come from a wider swath of population than your artfully constructed archetypes would allow for, but t…

It has to be said that any move with a girl who you've been 'in orbit' for will have a low percentage of success, you're much more likely to better with a brand new girl. It's classic ladder theory and doesn't need a long explanation here. That said, the only thing I've ever seen work is to disappear off their radar entirely, no calls, no hang outs. This severing is a necessary move - if you just ultimatum it comes out of the blue and you're less likely to get the answer you want. Rather, you ju…

Too angry. Decades of service earn some consideration from an employer, and if you haven't earned a request or two after that amount of work, you work at a shitty place. A broader topic at play which also affects men is the fact that companies push out older (50s+) employees regularly for younger, cheaper ones. There's a lot to be said on the topic, and it's not just pure economics.

Most people view sideline reporters as an extremely flimsy pretense of a position, with little necessity. Having never worked a broadcast personally, I couldn't tell you how accurate it is. Let's assume it's not, for argument. That a skilled sideline reporter is really invaluable for making a broadcast great. It has to be frustrating to 'excel' at a job for decades only to be 'put out to pasture' when you still feel capable of doing what you did for so long. However, not acknowledging the realit…

This is a good post & jump off for discussion. I have two thoughts to share: one on 'nice girls' and second on meeting girls outside your normal channels. Some girls you meet are legitimately nice, absent insidious, conscious agenda. They are rarely visibly promiscuous, and often exceptionally attractive. This is one of the underlying re…

Like a lot of 'woe is me' tales from women, the people in her life who offer tangible solutions are dismissed and their suggestions go unattended. It's much more beneficial to write this piece. The axiom: 'You can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink' is best applied to TRP. Float some ideas when applicable but you needn't be a evangelist, this will either click with people or it won't. Don't try and force it, even if you think the knowledge could help. People have to seek it out on their own and want to consume it. If they aren't ready for the 'bitter truth' expect it to meet rejection.

The content was okay but this is poorly titled. The tests never end - every new girl you meet with 'shit test' you to suss out your worth. Passing them will reduce them, but never eliminate them. It's important to realize girls don't necessarily ask these sort of things consciously (as you sort of imply), but rather impulsively, so getting mad about it is a waste of your time. You should aspire to be kind, not nice. It's not semantics - nice implies being pleasant or agreeable, kind implies friendly, generous and considerate. One requires a judgement of worth, the other is a default. You're nice to the mailman, you're kind to your friends and people you value.

The example in the OP isn't even a shit test, really. It's the girl's attempt at banter; girls use the word play very, well, playfully. I'd work with that: Not bored, I'm mostly suggesting more play on these dates. Again, this is a girl he's banged (assuming plate is being used correct) - its mostly irrelevant what you say.

don't take this the wrong way but asking me what are the advantages of friends is kind of autistic. If you're an adult and still don't understand this, take a step back and reevaluate things deeper than day game. Great stuff as always: I could use the term “appeasement”, but that’s not what most men want to call it. Most men call it being a better man (for her), better than “other guys” who wont align themselves accordingly. It becomes their point of pride in fact. This describes a lot of the resentment and anti-RP feelings you'll see and is a great example of why you should not try and 'convert' people to RP.

Regret will always exists. Sometimes it's for shallower reasons (great tits), sometimes it's about how they were as a person, or things they use to do, or wistful feelings about a past shared experience, etc whatever. Thing is, regardless of what the reason you miss them is, it will fade with time & new experiences, and in retrospect you'll realize why it wasn't rock solid for the long term. If you can't find the fault in her, which I think would be a lot more common with dudes who have been dum…

I think you'll unfairly catch heat here for 'concern trolling' or whatever people like to call more moderate posts, but this is pretty good. The biggest part of getting over the bitterness is to realize that a lot of the stuff (hypergamy, AABB, etc) is in large part subconscious and women don't necessarily act out of malicious intent rather rabid self-interest. AS YOU SHOULD TOO. Sure there's avaricious girls out there, but mean-spirited and/or weak-willed people cut across both genders. The bes…

This is actually spot on, here's why. You'll likely have friends that have little to no success with women (for a variety of reasons, not really relevant here). If your hookups (I'm not a huge fan of plates as a term, though whatever) hang around enough, they'll obviously develop a friendly relationship with your buddies/roommates (depending on where you're at in life). Here's where it gets complicated - because they have this relationship, it often manifests itself into embodying the other aspe…

Embracing rejection is a very difficult thing to do, and I've far from mastered it, but what you have to focus on is the removal of ambiguity. No more what if. You saw a hot girl, were direct about your interest, it's not reciprocal. Fine, next. Pussyfoot around that? Maybe she entertains you for a date, or you text a bit, or whatever. Same net result but a higher chance of you catching feelings or wasting time or whatever. Another part of rejection which should be embraced? If you aren't ever g…

I think you're generally right, in that there's a lot more invective when women use the word. I'm trying to think of an equivalent male on male term, the closest I've come up with is douche. If a girl calls you that it means one thing, if a guy does it can mean another (but this isn't perfect). The thing about entitlement is without it, nothing happens. Since guys makes the overwhelming majority of 'first moves' what you realize is that the guy has to assume the sale when going to the kiss or bang or whatever. As the recipient, it's on the woman to clearly hit the brakes when it's not what she wants. This assumption of reciprocity IS entitlement, defined as 'having a right to something'. Good post. With a lot of the absolutism expressed in trp ('women are incapable of unconditional love'), the harsh ideas are draconian in language as a necessity to properly reframe thought. You have to basically flip an idea on its head to guide people towards a more nuanced perspective. In short, early stage RP is extremist, late stage RP is nuance. Like with any conditioned behavior or thought, violent disruption is one of the surest ways to break down previously held notions. In this particul…

Getting too hung up on terminology misses the forest for the trees. It has nothing to do with animals in the wild. They're just shorthand for behavior which is demonstrated in male/female interactions. Though imperfect, it serves as a good basis for people unfamiliar with core concepts at play. As stated above, given any situation, your response can be dominant, more middle ground, supplicating or submissive. I feel you might have this idea of 'alpha = good', 'beta = bad'.
