I used to work as a makeup artist and actually the creepiness of the male photographers was one reason I quit doing print work. They find super young models who are just starting out, offer them a photoshoot to get their portfolio going. Usually they make deals called "trade for print" meaning no one gets paid, we all work for free in exchange for having nice final photos we all use in our portfolios. I saw so many young (Im talking YOUNG, youngest I worked with was 16) aspiring models getting f…

I started on a major glow up journey both mentally and physically when I got into my 30s. I am happier now than ever in my 20s and get hit on a million times more than ever before. Men dont even attempt to glow up or age gracefully.

- good looking, rich, abusive ex Girl Im not sure what to tell you here, if you believe leaving something abusive wasnt absolutely the best decision, then you need to re-read the handbook. Second, if you would then get with an ugly slob youre not attracted to, again, re-read the handbook. Not sure what advice you are looking for here. If neither makes you happy, block and delete them both. Move on. And dont dwell about it, dont let it steal a second of emotions from you. Find what makes you happ…

And just like with leaving a bad ex, you shouldnt care, even a little bit, what other people think. What your ex thinks. Etc. You left because it was the best decision for YOU. And that is literally all that matters. If you know "people in common" or old coworkers that you still chat with, if they in any way make you feel bad/lesser than/etc all the things you are talking about, omit them from your life immediately. Theres a reason our heads dont swivel 180 degrees like a f*cking owl, its becaus…

This happened to be big time in my last relationship. We didnt even live together. Yet he would ask me to help him with his laundry when he came over (turned into me doing it for him) ask me to help him make doctors appointments etc (turned into me doing it for him) talked about wanting to eat home cooked meals instead of us eating out all the time (turned into me constantly cooking for us) you get my drift. I was a legit babysitter, had to make sure he didnt burn things if he did try to cook, h…

I completely agree. I understand some might find those posts triggering because they may have experienced the depravity first hand and dont need reminders. However, for me they are HUGE eye openers. Some of the posts absolutely shock and appall me. Some of the things I read I could not even phathom before. I think it is SUPER important in its own way to outline just how low the bar is. Reading first hand accounts from other women is extremely helpful. Also to highlight just how bad reddit is in …

When I was younger I broke things off with my then bf, took him back after months of begging and pleading. He sent flowers to my work asking again for me back. I finally say yes lets try again. Only for him to promptly break up with ME like a week later saying it wasnt working out. To this day I still wonder if he did all that to win me back to break up with me just so he could say he was the one who broke it off. What a mind fuck. Never again.

Seriously!! I could never be that selfish and also so bold faced to say to someone they owed me something after countless times of spending money on me. It was just so crazy. I started realizing towards the end of that relationship that if I stayed I wouldve always been the bread winner, forever. And he would probably stay at that dead end job, forever. Did I mention he lived with his mom and brother at the age of 37?? (He smoothed that one over with me at the beginning by saying his mom and bro…

Oof this one hit for me. My most recent ex was just like this. Didnt make much money because he worked in a dead end call center job (and refused to move up because ew more responsibilities? yuck! thats another whole topic in itself). So somehow I accepted this and would pay for damn near everything. Food, outings, whatever. I make decent money and at first never minded. But then whenever he DID pay for something, he would immediately ask for dinner that night or starbucks or something because n…

Oldest manipulation trick in the book. I had an ex that did this to me constantly and basically shattered all my confidence and ability to believe that men had any kind of remorse whatsoever. Always the same: Me: "you upset me when you did x, y, z, Id like you to apologize" Him: "well now Im upset because youre blaming me/yelling at me/being mean so now you need to apologize to me" Yeah just... no. Basically its just deferring the blame/guilt back onto you making you the "bad guy" now. So you wi…

My last ex asked me to move in with him within like 6ish months of being together. I obviously said no because I was completely settled in my own place with a roommate on a lease. And I would never move in with a guy after 6 months (even back then in my pickmeish days, I know even better now.) Fast forward to 2 years into our relationship, I was moving and tossed out the idea that we find a place together. He said no because he was already settled where he was and basically scoffed at the idea. …

my male roommate does this to me all the time. he rarely cleans, so when he does, he makes sure to tell me about it. If im not home, he will text me "hey, unloaded the dishwasher" like uhhhh ok??? just like i do 3x a week??? I went to hawaii a few weeks back on vacation and he sent me a picture of the stove because he cleaned it. Im on a fucking beach in hawaii sipping a mai tai and this guy sends me a pic of the stove, so he could get some kudos. LIKE I CARE. I ignored it completely. Came home,…

My last relationship was pretty much like this. The guy was sweet and caring, treated me like he thought I was the best woman he had ever met. But he worked in a call center, and never wanted to move up. Lived at home with mom and didnt want to move out. He was totally fine living paycheck to paycheck with no responsibilities at work or home. The relationship was comfy, but he had zero plans for the future, and when asked he always said he could figure it out later. We were both in our early 30s…

My ex made me late to my grandmothers funeral because he "had" to stop and get coffee at Starbucks. He was not only a starbucks addict (had to have it, same thing, every fucking morning or else his whole day was ruined and it was my and everyone elses fault) he was a starbucks snob (LITERALLY would not drink any other types of coffee, and would throw a tantrum if I tried to get him to just drink the coffee available.) My best friends husband did this all the time. She hated it and constantly tried to talk to him about it. He always used to say "why? I can look at the menu, I just cant order" in response to this, as if looking at half naked women constantly and liking/commenting was somehow no big deal. But if she was to do it, or any woman for that matter in their relationship, the guy would flip. No this is not fine. Both the groomsman and the girlfriend had never met the bridesmaid nor did they get a chance to even see each other/determine that her bf would flirt with her. They all live in different states. She refused to let her bf attend the wedding for the sole reason she didnt want him to touch another womans arm walking down the aisle. I'm in my cousins wedding tomorrow and the grooms brother (groomsmen) bailed just hours ago because his gf didn't feel comfortable with him walking arm and arm with one of the bridesmaids down the aisle. The bridesmaid he was paired with is the brides sister, my other cousin, who is fully married with kids. The insecurity knows no bounds.

This was me in my last relationship. Towards the end I felt as if we were just like really good friends. There was nothing glaringly "wrong" with our relationship. He was a nice guy, was into me, we never fought, and he was more than happy to just coast on forever in our boring ass relationship. I just simply wasnt feeling it any more. Not the special kind of way. I debated this feeling for like 3 months, waiting for a "good time" to break it to him. Then one day I just text him and asked him to…

First thing you gotta do is understand that he will never give you the closure you need. That will only come from within your own self. You have to just repeat to yourself that he didnt deserve you, your love, your emotions, none of it. And holding on to any feelings of resentment is just letting this person live in your head rent free. He doesnt deserve that either. Mental manipulation can be one of the most painful forms of abuse, and often gets overlooked by women especially when we are young/naïve. If he wanted to hang out, he would. My best friends husband always used to say "its fine to look at the menu, as long as I dont order" in regards to constantly checking out/commenting/following other women in public and on social media. It was disgusting and I always told him so right to his face. Needless to say, hes her ex husband now.

This may be nitpicky, but does it bother anyone else when guys cant seem to use normal everyday grammar? Like saying "u down chill again" instead of saying "are you down to chill again"? I understand short handing words like "you" to "u" but to just omit words entirely really bothers me.

Thank you, I appreciate that and youre soooo right! When I think about it now I wish I could reach back all those years and tell that girl that I was back then that she deserved so much more. Its frustrating to think that I let myself get treated that way, but also empowering knowing how far Ive come since then. We live and learn right!?

An ex I dated during a really low point in my life stood me up on Valentines day and I allowed it to happen. I cooked dinner for us (beef wellington, lobster tails, potatoes, bourbon sauce, I spent hours on this) and waited for him to show at our arranged time when he got off work at 8pm. He didnt come, couldnt reach him, calling and texting, nothing. Our dinner sat and got cold from 8pm til after midnight when he called me and told me he got "held up at work" and wanted to still come over. I al…

Wow that is just awful. I'm so sorry they had to go through something like that. Really horrendous to hear something like that would happen to women who are already vulnerable. So scary 😟

Since Im pretty sure Im the "white woman" you are speaking of I guess Ill chime in here. The study you keep citing was just a small private study held in Washington and combing responses of people in America. If you want to hang your hat on black women being sexualized "the most" in America, thats fine. But you are completely omitting every other woman of race and color from the rest of the GLOBE. Plus I dont feel like we should be more concerned with who it happens to "THE MOST" and more concer…

Maybe in America, but not if you look at the world as a whole. Adultification of young women goes super deep in Asian and Hispanic countries, just to name a few.

I get where you are coming from but this was a small study conducted regarding women in America. This doesnt touch on women of all races around the globe. As another commenter mentioned women of Hispanic and Latin backgrounds celebrating their "coming into womanhood" parties (quinceaneras) at age 15. Im not trying to make this a race issue, just trying to point out that all women around the globe experience this and it is definitely a problem all around.

I dont wanna be a nay sayer here but I dont think adultification affects black women "the most." I feel like sexual adultification doesnt depend on race, it happens across the board.

That LOOOOOK Its something Ive always been able to spot in people. Like sometimes you can just feel maliciousness or deceit when they look at you. You feel uneasy, but you dont know why. My friend started dating a girl one time and we were looking at pics and I was like whoa shes got kind of an evil look in her eye, and he laughed. Fast forward a couple years later this girl turned out to be bulimic, a cutter, had the cops called more than once, an alcoholic, and abusive. It was a long hard road…

Any phrase that starts with "you're an example of what is wrong with x" is manipulation 101. That's your cue to back pedal and prove him wrong "nah im not about money, sure let's go to McDonald's instead" Fuckin neeeeexttt. You did the right thing
