An ex I dated during a really low point in my life stood me up on Valentines day and I allowed it to happen.

I cooked dinner for us (beef wellington, lobster tails, potatoes, bourbon sauce, I spent hours on this) and waited for him to show at our arranged time when he got off work at 8pm.

He didnt come, couldnt reach him, calling and texting, nothing. Our dinner sat and got cold from 8pm til after midnight when he called me and told me he got "held up at work" and wanted to still come over. I allowed him to come. He arrived drunk, and confessed he had gone to hang with his coworkers after work (they went BOWLING.) He also showed up with a stuffed animal as my valentine which I knew they sold at his work (he worked at a gaming shop.) We ate our re-heated filet mignon as he apologized and I totally let him off the hook to try to salvage our night.

The next day I was so sad, more sad than I had ever been. With how it all went down and the fact that I let it happen and felt like total trash and a complete idiot the next morning. Ive never had anyone make me feel more like dirt in my whole life. I still didnt even break up with him for like another month.

When I think back on that experience, and how I let him treat me, and the fact that I was ACTUALLY SAD when we broke up even though this man treated me like I was less than human, I fucking CRINGE.

Just felt like I needed to share that story from my pickme days. That was years ago and trust when I say I do not let anyone, ANYONE treat me like that anymore. Never, ever again. Its never too late to learn how to stand up for yourself and have standards. I dont care who you are, or how you feel about yourself, NO ONE DESERVES TO BE TREATED LIKE THAT. NO ONE.

Took me long time to see that my narc bf was actually a narc. I'd never met anyone like that or knew the term in a clinical sense, so I didn't know what to look for. I wasn't a pickme, but so naive. God 🤦🏽‍♀️

Let him waste my time. I used to come home early on Saturday because he wanted to “hang out”, only for him to “get into a fight with his dad”. He’d leave me waiting up for him until 10 (our meet up time was 8:30) and then he’d say “oh I can come get you now”. Who the fuck wants to be out past 1 am when I had to work in the morning? I’d just say don’t bother and leave.

Same ex tried to “stop by and say hi” knowing that no one was home. I was mad at him (because this had been the first time he had seen me in 3 months) and I told him that, while I didn’t need to see him every day, seeing him once in 3 months when he lived 20 minutes away and seeing him on snap going bowling with other women was bullshit because he made time for every one else but me. He told me he’d do better. When I asked him to leave (because I was bored of sitting in the house talking and he had to go to work anyways) he had asked to watch me shower like a fucking weirdo. I told him no, and he literally tried to “cmon please” me to death. I had to physically push him out of the house. I’m pretty sure he would have tried to force himself on me had I let him

He forgot about my birthday despite the fact i had reminded him the day before (knowing his "lousy memory" girl he just didn't care about youuu).

He got mad when I gently asked if he remembered it's my birthday. "You should have reminded me!". When I pointed out i did so... 3 times, he got a little apologetic but still claimed i hadn't reminded him enough.

He introduced me to his parents after a year of relationship. They loved me, of course they did. I was the first girl in 5 years he took home. I thought it meant something. A month later I told him I loved him and asked if it was mutual and he gave me the "i don't think I'm capable of love, I don't think we have to say the stupid l word anyway" spiel. He suggested my mental problems made him stop loving me cos initially he felt very happy with me. My mental problems were a consequence of my mom's cancer diagnosis.

Jesus and to think he was the best among the men I've dated
