I’m sorry your experiencing this. I’m in the same boat. Last Christmas with everyone under one roof. Our eve turned into a big fight between the kids and my wife which ended in tears for everyone. I have been doing everything I can to have as many activities with all of us together as possible before the inevitable conclusion. I have not fully come to terms with her being done with the marriage and am hoping for some miracle she will want to go to counseling or something but it’s just a pipe dre…

Your situation resonates so much with me and I feel for you. I’m a high earner and she has been a homemaker so different issues but I came to a similar realization and had to own up to my failings in the marriage. I told her my view and what I felt I did wrong. I think it softened our discussions after that. Divorce is still pending and I would love to try and fix it but I’m pretty sure that ship has sailed for her. Work on processing your own shit for your own benefit, treat her the way that re…

Yeah I don’t want to lie or anything. I just know if I told her she would go straight for the jugular. Good call on the lawyer. Once I have the offer in hand I’ll ask her about it

What if she needs to use insurance though. Based on my last 2 years it would be just my luck

Also still cohabitating and have kids. If I could never talk to her again that would be a dream come true but I’m pinned to her for at least a decade.

We have already filed the petition. Sorta have a parenting plan roughed out. I’m waiting for her attorney to file their sworn financial statement before I file mine.

I appreciate this. Number 2 for sure. Im so hung up on trying to affect the kids as little as possible but it may be a cut my nose to spite my face thing at this point.

I’m learning that when I say collaborative divorce she hears something entirely different.

Most definitely. Ive had it for years but it’s gotten so much worse even before the divorce actually started.

Why is it strange to be a SAHD but not SAHM?

All valid points but I was referring more to being an equal participant in the relationship. If she wants the marriage to work she needs to put forth effort to improve or at the very least maintain it.

I wish you the best of luck. I’m in a very similar situation and it is indeed a difficult decision. In my case we are basically roommates but she spends the money I earn. Depending on your income level, where you live, how difficult ur wife will be about it there are less than catastrophic endings for you. I will lose about half my income and more than half the possessions to her for the next 7-13 years for spousal support and child support. I never thought I would get to a point where that woul…

Wow what exactly is her role in the marriage if he’s doing everything to keep it going?

It’s good to hear stories like this. I haven’t pulled the trigger mainly because my income isn’t enough to cover my expenses plus cs and spousal support. Sucks

Also remember you are the resourceful one that made shit happen every time, not her. You can always make more and be successful… can she?

I know you only really hear about the bad ones but I haven’t heard many stories where it was less than catastrophic for the high earning male.

I feel this. I know what needs to happen but I haven’t come to terms with losing everything I’ve built. I won’t be able to afford to keep it with alimony and child support. Not seeing my kids everyday. Telling myself it’s not that bad because we acknowledge each other unless I’m needed to pay for something. Rebuilding retirement, relationships and a new home seem insurmountable in my 40s.

Oof I’m gonna have to make some really tough decisions. I can understand the sentiment of cheaper to keep her. How do people get to the point where it’s better to leave and financially lose everything?

Was more looking for general timelines but I realize that every case is separate. Have 2 kids she hasn’t worked in close to a decade and I’m in the 6figure area. All the math I’ve done seems to look like after she gets paid and the fixed expenses get paid I have nothing left which confuses me. No infidelity or anything we just have nothing in common so I’m living with and finding the life of basically a stranger.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
