It struck me that a woman's negotiating strategy is idiotic, and only effective on men who are utter fools who can't do better. Women who avoid negotiating for marriage have nowhere to go but down.

You assume Marxism is based in reality. It isn't. Class struggle = how Marxists justify seizing power. It has nothing to do with what reality is.

A man however, has far less intrinsic value. Society will not overtly acknowledge but under the surface recognizes that men are more powerful. Do not expect pity; seize power instead.

Having honest conversation is what adults do. This is what happens AFTER the honest conversation is blown off by one partner. He told her what he wanted, she didn't do the same: excuses instead.

their equality will lose every time when stacked up against the equality of women. You're right. Equality is a loser when one party can always be construed as weaker. The problem with feminism is that it demands (a) "equality" (always a nonsense notion) and (b) also that we recognize women are weaker. Thus when two equal beings are in conflict, the woman wins every time.

I'd wager most redpillers are beyond the political slavery of a 2 party system. It's called divide and conquer. No matter what you do, you'll have to pick a system that is either inclined toward right-wing values or left-wing values. Think on that.

Of course, TRP is heresy to the right as well: It is an attack on traditional values, potentailly amoral and nihilistic. I think it's less heretical to the right, because we recognize its underlying truths and that our culture has (traditionally) worked around them. The left wants to believe in human nature, but TRP denies that. It also smashes the notion of equality.

The leftist strain in MRM, by becoming bigger victims in need of rescue, miss the point that the only ones able to save them are yet other men. I agree, and this is why I dis-identify as an Egalitarian Men's Rights Agitator (EMRA) and identify instead as a Conservative Men's Rights Agitator (CMRA).

Great link, thanks! It always seemed to me that tribalism was more masculine in that it's inherently goal-oriented (protect tribe, feed tribe, develop tribe). Reminds me of the ancient Greeks.

I don't agree it made no sense. You asked in the context of Nietzsche; Donovan's point (?) is that you don't ask, in a passive (Nietzschean feminine) role, but you take. Men's rights, like feminism, is a protest movement based on using guilt to coerce others into doing something in the name of equality.

It's called paternity fraud, and one state that examined the problem found as many as 30 percent of those paying child support were, indeed, not the biological fathers of the children being supported. (From the WND article.) This isn't an exact match for the situation we're describing either because many of these men are aware the child is not biologically theirs, but got legally duped into supporting it. Nature also has no authority that must be respected nor grounds to claim such authority. You're using human constructs to argue against something larger than humanity. Prisoners go out of their way to segregate themselves. In general, groups -- of any kind: ethnic, religious, cultural, racial, language -- tend to prefer to associate with their own, except for those who want to prove they're "different" and base their identity on it, which generally reflects either a hatred of origins or inability to adapt to the majority.

What other irrelevant factors can we shoehorn in here? I'm not sure stability of the home is "irrelevant." In fact, all factors suggest it is relevant. T-shirt wearing, heavy metal listening, etc. are media distractions.

The Oxford dictionary uses a misandrist example- it could just as easily claimed that masculinity was working your life away to support a family. It chose to use one that puts men in a bad light. I don't agree. First, it's not ideological. Second, I think it's trying to describe a universal tendency in human populations. A man who is in Cheer Squad is no less a man than one who plays on the football team, yet there are those who will claim that he is less masculine. Why? This is a No True Scotsm…

I don't think it's feminists who support this kind of legislation. It's moral conservatives who see women as innocent and chaste who are coerced or tricked into giving up their maidenhood, whereas men have ownership over their sexuality. I don't know of a single one who would. What part of moral conservatism endorses a teacher having group sex with her students? LOL

Re-defining masculinity to be something arbitrary is also a bias. The Oxford definition aims to reflect historical reality, without judgment of it. If that's a bias, coming up with a counter-definition is so as well.

We can change that. We can re-define masculinity to include mowing down toddlers with a pink rifle. It shouldn't have this implication of homosexuality or twinkness.

To start a family you need to be attractive enough to the opposite sex to find a mate. They're not all equal/identical. You may need to simply be competent and responsible. War gives men the power to take another's life. Women get wet over men who have that power. Women love violent men because they get to control that power. You are assuming that A->B means B->A here. We should've turned the other cheek after 9/11. What behavior you tolerate, you endorse; what you endorse, you get more of. I think 9/11 required a generalized response to beat back the opposition. Both parties do a lot of things, at different rates. Why are the mods taking a viewpoint on this, in a community that clearly includes both traditionalist (CMRA) and egalitarian (EMRA) viewpoints? When men had the advantage in divorce, only 5% of marriages ended in divorce. Now that women have the advantage in divorce, ~50% of marriages end in divorce. Almost all of them initiated by women. I want to add that no-fault divorce hasn't lessened the court costs or paperwork.

As usual, I'm going to post an explanation here so people see this article is more than tangential to Men's Rights. According to this study, couples who share the same role (housework) compete with each other, which introduces fractiousness that then can threaten the marriage. Mainly because people are able to wrap their heads around a concept like "equality" and apply it functionally (and I argue less dangerously) than matters much harder to nail down, like "justice" While this is true, the problem is that they'll equally misinterpret both, and we'll be back where we are now.

Feminism has the goal of equality. It has been swallowed up by nothing and almost all the advantages that feminism acquires, benefits women. The historical view is that equality movements all tend to do this. The point is that there's a hierarchy of goals -- imagine equality on top, and under that as a subset, equality for men. One concept logically swallows the others, and soon men's rights is not a movement for men, but another voice joining the chorus for equality.

Some people are better at some things that others, which means that not everyone can do those things. Inequality does not exist in nature.
/r/MensRights23/09/12 09:37 PM
3

Not even exactly the same; there's a clear hierarchy with huge differences. The average person is not capable of leadership, possibly including most of their own affairs. We need a social order to give everyone a place so they're not placed above, below or sideways from where they belong.

I think you're off-base. He's using the Jefferson wording but the sentiment is even older than that. It's the concept itself -- of equality of all men, and from that all women -- which is troublesome.

/r/MensRights23/09/12 06:10 PM

Sure, that's well-known historically. However, like many things, its meaning has expanded, which suggests that Jefferson was wrong in the first place.

Document everything. Get into marriage counseling and make it clear that it was your idea; document that. Start asking her friends if they've noticed anything odd. If you find something, e.g. cheating, document that. Spend more time with her and ask her if she has any concerns. You're gone a lot, and that's hard on both of you. The cause and fuel of rebellion is generally oppression. Horse shit.
/r/MensRights23/09/12 01:42 PM

No, the fact that there are exceptions doesn't make a general trend untrue. Not if those exceptions provide an alternate theory of the cause. Its not either or, they can have both invented and ended up being oppressed by it. Which is what likely happened. You were arguing that they were oppressed before this invention.
/r/MensRights23/09/12 01:02 PM

Repression of one sort or another is at the root of most rebellions you could mention. That's exactly what I said was not true. You mentioned that there are exceptions, which I accept. Then it is not the fundamental cause and is a contributory cause at best. I also believe that women invented sexual repression to work beta providers harder Which were they, "oppressed" or in control?

If society is biased against those that choose to live their lives in such a manner, then that needs to be fixed. Actually it doesn't; our society worked fine before these Utopian changes. It's entirely possible to have a set of personal standards or beliefs and still be okay with what other people do. That's not the issue here.

Homophobia is a part of the same traditional gender culture that says men are stern and stoic and can't have feelings and are immune to pain. That sounds like a stereotype from a feminist textbook. Traditional culture is full of men expressing emotions and the point is not that they're immune to pain/fear but that they push past them in pursuit of a goal.
/r/MensRights22/09/12 12:02 PM

A phobia is a fear; a person who is generally referred to as 'homophobic' is not afraid of homosexuals, but either disagrees with or dislikes them. I agree. "Homophobic" is part of the lexicon of political correctness that feminists use.

All of his points are legitimate. Still, I don't ever want to punch a woman. If she attacks me, I'm going to extricate and then protect my interests and those of my children. The best way to do this is through legal means, since a woman who is unstable enough to hit her husband is also going to do crazy stuff to her family. Yeah, that may make me sound like a big wimp to some of you, but I think the most masculine point of view is to fix the problem, and eye-for-an-eye often does not do that.

I don't think /r/mensrights is about establishing male superiority. Yes, but at its heart, men's rights isn't an equality movement -- it's a defense against the Robin Hooding of equality movements.
/r/MensRights11/09/12 01:02 AM
1

Yet the archaic perception that men must "be the breadwinner" still exists. Why is this? You hear "equality" and you think equality. That's an illusion. It really means: Robin Hood. We take from the stronger and give to the weaker, because with the vote, they outnumber the stronger.

Cultural Marxism = PC = Feminism. It all starts with "equality" (which is the opposite of quality).
/r/MensRights10/09/12 10:50 PM

Many of them think it means "female equality" rather than "female superiority." That's true, and yet the history of egalitarian movements shows us that one (equality) inevitably becomes the other (superiority) through Robin-Hooding.

feminism for men. This is a paradoxical goal. Feminism is inherently Robin-Hooding against men.

/r/MensRights09/09/12 10:36 PM

That's entirely disturbing. The moderators here take on too much of a burden: they're trying to clear up /r/MR so the rest of Reddit approves of it, when such an event will never take place because Reddit is inherently biased toward whomever it perceives as the underdog.

When the norm is permissiveness, all options are available. Not true. Permissiveness relegates options that require a higher standard of civilization to the dustbin. In today's domestic violence police state, it's expected the woman is the victim. All she has to do is call 911 and report her husband assaulted her. In many cases she conveniently fails to mention she slapped, punched, kicked or pummeled him to the point that he pushed her away. As a family law attorney for 17 years, I have experienced the DV system personally. Every example cited in this article has happened to one of my clients. You still haven't said how that happens. Yes, I have. You're just not accepting it. When something becomes a cultural norm, it excludes others. If you want monogamy on the planet of promiscuity, you'll be alone. People conform to the dominant type. What do you see as enforcement of permissiveness? Making it the norm.

The needs of different cultures vary widely. As I said, all 3 forms always coexist, just the percentages change. No, because at some point, the culture norms to one -- say, promiscuity -- and the ability to have a monogamous relationship is fairly trashed at that point. But the thing is, enforcement of social norms always comes at a cost to society. Including enforcement of permissiveness. I see you see my point.

And if you do want vanilla, you can definitely get it, no one is preventing you. If you want traditional marriage, for the reasons that it produces a stable society where non-traditional marriage does not, you won't be getting vanilla. Additionally, if only 10% of the population wants vanilla, it probably won't be manufactured in any volume if at all.

How can we fix hypergamy in an ethical manner and halt its destructive effect on both individuals and our society? Complementary roles. Women get a unique and protected, sacred, role in the home and community. Men get a unique and protected, sacred, role outside the community in individual pursuits and war. The result is that hypergamy is not encouraged, because it leads to failure in terms of the values of that civilization.

I think this is relevant to men's rights because it's time that all men stopped being blamed for the actions of some men. Some men are rapists. So are some women. We should blame those who commit the act, not a whole gender. The point of this article is that this Judge (who is a woman) sees avoiding rape as a practical matter, like avoiding being mugged. Use common sense and think defensively.

I think this type of article is usually made-up, and Jezebel is easy to hate, but I think this belongs here as an example of the kind of propaganda we need to counter. She is essentially making a ploy to our pity based on the idea that women are discriminated against by men all the time and we somehow just don't see it, because we're too busy making men happy.

How does an obviously inherent attribute, from which this whole hierarchy emerges, somehow invalidate it? Because monogamy is not a variant of polygamy. It looks like it, from a paper and pencil perspective, but it makes no sense when you see that the attribute they have in common is common to the question and thus is a bad unifier. Ok, if just having one partner over a life span is considered monogamy (and strictly enforced), then this strict enforcement creates the market for promiscuity Do al…
/r/MensRights08/09/12 06:30 PM
2

Case of having just one partner is just a special case of having partners. Unfortunately, that's inherent to the definition of sex itself, so I think your containership is broken here. Same for promiscuity. It's hard to have multiple partners at ll times. Then let's measure over lifespan.
/r/MensRights08/09/12 06:16 PM
2

But most more importantly: just as monogamy is a special case of polygamy, polygamy is a special case of promiscuity. That is very interesting. Monogamy is a type of polygamy? Wouldn't classify it that way; can you explain more? That makes enforcing promiscuity without also leaving room for polygamy and monogamy pretty much impossible. Not at all. If you enforce promiscuity, it's the standard, and so people behave that way. That excludes monogamy.

Monogamy, polygamy, promiscuity, all this exists naturally in humans, and in parallel in all societies, and which of those forms is the dominant one (or whether there even is a dominant one) is determined by the situations the people are in, the environment. Society would be much better off if women didn't play at going to college and having a career while riding the cock carousel until they're 30 years old and decide it's time to settle down and find a sucker to support them. At the very least, society would be better off if they had the option to be daughters, housewives and mothers with no shaming for not bringing in money. Snowflake tends to attack members over a much wider variety of issues. He/She is an equal opportunity offender! As our discussions often boil down to, it's subjective. I don't agree. There is clearly content to TruthMan's posts; I don't know about Snowflake, not being an observer. Personally, I'd rather have neither of their contributions. If we're talking personally, I'd rather ban the hive-mind echo chamber that posts what boil down to elaborate versions of "me too" posts. Not that they're bad…

Many armed robbers have a chip on their shoulders and view life as inherently unfair, says criminologist Richard Wright, a professor at the University of Missouri at St. Louis and co-author of Armed Robbers in Action: Stickups and Street Culture. Conventional wisdom holds that women who dress provocatively draw attention and put themselves at risk of sexual assault. But studies show that it is women with passive, submissive personalities who are most likely to be raped—and that they tend to wear body-concealing clothing, such as high necklines, long pants and sleeves, and multiple layers. Predatory men can accurately identify submissive women just by their style of dress and other aspects of appearance. This isn't about "conservative clo…

Syllogism analysis: You are mainly advising against stranger rape, stranger rape is a rare form of rape, so your advice doesn't really apply to most rape. You lose the plot on the third. Stranger rape is a type of rape, therefore his advice protects against stranger rape and not the other types of rape. Or does it? It's good advice for any type of rape. There is really no correlation between feminism and economic troubles. I'm not sure this even matters. Feminism is bad, but not for the reasons you seem to be claiming. Feminism is not bad; it's pathologically stupid. It does not achieve its aims and in the process destroys a civilization. Kind of like Communism, the French Revolution, Pol Pot, dubstep, etc.

If you want to live your life afraid of what may happen and let that fear dictate your decisions, you probably won't lead a very fulfilling life. This is true. And it's worth remembering that half of marriages don't fail. However, I have a feeling that we'll find that the marriages that don't fail correspond to my chart above.

My guess is you're a bitter old man who's made poor choices in life and takes solace in the fact that statistics mean you're resolved of responsibility for those choices. This isn't going to end well. Factory2 makes some great commentary around here. I agree with your proposition, which is that marriage is worth saving, and that choice of mate is the primary determiner. However, this legal system is also bigoted, hateful and vindictive toward men. They want us to pay for everything, while gettin…

over 50% It was my understanding that this figure was 50% of marriages, which means it happens to at least 50% of the men who get married -- there will be multiple marriages. Then again, it seems to me that having one divorce makes you much more likely to have a second, and third, etc. People don't actually improve in decision-making.

It is short for "legal equality", which means laws are applied to either gender in the same way. Mine is a great shorthand for that. A good synonym for the sense in which it is used here is "parity", not "identical". And yet if results do not turn out identical, we're going to blame a lack of equality, and turn to the Robin Hood actions. That's a good summary of the last 200 years of "equality" legislation, don't you agree?

Federal law (Title IX) and federal regulations and guidances prohibit universities from ceding student conduct matters to the criminal justice system. She is not in complete control of her reproductive system without abortion. Disagreed. She's in complete control of the parts that do not involve murder. only one sex is deemed responsible for what happens in a sexual situation Not at all. But one sex has better control over pregnancy, so the burden falls on them. As soon as men can get pregnant, that will change.
/r/MensRights29/08/12 05:08 PM

Why would abortion being legal or not change the last scenario? By forcing the participants to view the situation in a different life. No one wants an abortion. Easier than having a kid, thus becomes de facto birth control. If you have any sex at ALL, you're going to risk pregnancy. Best to make sure you're having sex with someone you'd want to have a kid with, which includes women who aren't so broken they view divorce and abortion as plausible options to continuing the family.

I disagree. The woman is the person in charge of her reproductive system, and with that comes the responsibility to ensure that if semen is admitted, it is neutralized if a child is unwanted. The man cannot know as much about it as she will and so it's unfair and unwise to place any responsibility on him.

A man would be able to walk away from a child before it was born, when a woman would not be able to walk away before it were born. That's not the man's fault. A law banning abortion except in the case of incest and rape would be very bad for MRAs, too. How? This policy will provide women with significant incentive to lie about being sexually assaulted. The problem is that most of these rape cases don't have evidence either way. Two people get drunk and leave the party. The next day she says it was rape, he says it was consensual. Who do you believe? There's nothing to go on.

If abortion isn't there as a "late" birth-control option, people are going to take having sex -- and consent -- more seriously, but more importantly, it will become more formally recognized. Hookup culture has done nothing but penalize men. Easy come, easy go = the man gets the leavings after everyone else is done and calls it "marriage," and because sex is casual and not deliberate, people only decide after the fact whether they want to consider it consensual or not.

Education has become a contest in memorization of irrelevant details and expressing feelings. It's disconnected from any sense of actual function, except in a bureaucratic climate. Thus average women succeed in it through nature obedience and detail-orientation; at the same time, it excludes both men and women who can discern a bigger picture among the chaos, or make leadership decisions on partial data.

For me it meant that there was no preferential treatment for a particular group of students, expectations were clear and unambiguous, we were treated like men and expected to act like men and we could be ourselves without having to worry about impressing the young ladies. Everything I've seen suggests students do better under same-sex education than mixed-sex education.

We're supposed to be teaching the methods of inquiry so that they can think critically and guide their own learning. However, facts and details still need to be taught as they still are necessary. I agree, but not bulk detail. That's the current method. Further, I think it's foolish to believe you can teach critical inquiry to the majority of students. They lack the wiring. Most people need an old-fashioned education, which we abandoned in the 1970s.

If we legalize abortion, there's always an escape valve, so women are not encouraged to take the decision seriously. If abortion is illegal, the woman and man both know they will be trapped by a liaison, so they're going to be more careful. Further, since the man has no choice in the matter, it makes it ludicrous to force him to become a financial donor. If we obliterated abortion and got rid of easy birth control, men and women both would start behaving. This doesn't mean I'm against abortion p…

The problem isn't rote memorization per se. In fact, I'll defend some rote memorization as essential, especially in history classes. The problem is that schools teach assimilation of details and thus a need to treat all data as purely factual, when what is needed is more flexible skills of interpretation. The gotcha here is that you're only going to be able to teach that to kids with IQs above 120. You will also notice the schools in rich areas or good private schools tend to have much more hand…

And equality of outcome is not the liberal opinion except in extreme circles. I think there's a difference between intent and effect. People say what they intend to be true, but when the results are consistently otherwise, it's clear they need to pay attention to those. Throughout history, everywhere that equality has been tried, it has been applied to equality of outcome instead of opportunity, mainly because it's easier to enforce.

is that abortion should be illegal except in cases of rape or incest. This should make us angry. I don't think this is the issue. I think the point is that without a man's consent, a woman should not be getting pregnant and also asking that man to pay for the child. The whole idea that, if a pregnancy occurs, the man must pay, is the root of male inequality. It lets unscrupulous women (not all women, but the bad apples) trap men into unions and financial arrangements they did not want.

The problems started when equal rights, opportunity, and responsibility became equal rights, opportunity, and privileges for women. I agree. Women are not stupid, if they cannot have babies at their convenience on someone else's dime, they won't. You've put your finger on the real issue here: how do we preserve families? Explanations are how you describe your own intentions, acts are how other people judge your intentions, and people are able to be misguided or make mistakes. Good idea to define terms first. It seems to be the oldest type of this analogy. Everyone's OK with a level playing field, but if at the end of the game, one side is winning more than the other, people starting wanting to rob the rich to pay the poor. The result is wealth transfer and the opposite of egalitarianism. In fact, it tends to create a loop whereby greater inequalities merit greater thefts which then in turn create greater inequality through dysfunction.

If you attempt to do so in order to protect one group, yes. For example, if in /r/MensRights you decided you needed to protect the public image of Men's Rights as pro-egalitarian, you would thus squeeze out any speech that disagreed with that. If on the other hand you decided not to use compensatory egalitarianism, and thus did not regulate content at all, it would not be a zero-sum game.

I consider myself to be leftwing (I'm in the UK) and yet here I am. Concepts in the head can mean anything. In practice, they tend to cluster. Feminism is an inherently left-wing ideology; the right is not egalitarian. If you support the MRM to be an egalitarian, you will find yourself repeating the errors of the feminists. Let's revisit this topic in five years.

the oppressive rule of the practical application of feminist advocacy All ideologies turn out different in practice, but it's then up to those who support them to notice and change that. I definitely agree with a lot of the main points of the movement (genital mutilation, alimony/unfair child support, etc). I'm a proponent of gender equality and non-discrimination for all. The problem is how we go about "equality."
