Does it matter? Would it truly change anything or heal any damage? It won’t. There is no logic to the behavior and most of it is driven by emotion. Be concerned with your own mechanisms and peace as it’s the ONLY thing you have control over. The lion doesn’t concern himself with the sheep…..

Yes make sure you have a motion for temporary orders with clear custody agreement before moving out. The person you were married to and knew is gone. Nothing will make sense.

Been there brother. Save what you have of your self respect and see this for what it is and move forward.

Have you filed? Attained legal counsel? My stbx did something similar. Yelling at me to leave (before custody agreement signed) but starved us of money to the point where I couldn’t get a place.

This is the best comment here. 100% agree on the anger. Hate is indeed the path to the dark side. It’s like holding onto a sword made of fire. Yes you can damage her with it but it hurts you as well. You need to process it (gym works wonders for this for me) and not hold onto it. Catch and release it.

Had to sit out Thanksgiving with STBXW and kids due to risk of drama. It was for the best. Spent the day with my dad and brother making the best of it.

Similar situation. It’s been toxic so decided to bow out of Thanksgiving to ensure zero issues. Also my dad has nowhere to go this year so I’m supporting him on Thanksgiving.

That’s rough man. Do you have friend and family to surround yourself with?

Very similar situation here. One of us was willing to put in the work and one of us wasn't. One of us suddenly found their value and worth through that self work and realized they deserved better. Much better. Kudos to you for doing the work and realizing your faults. You're building a foundation that will yield life long results. Your STBX will be staring at a mirror of reflection once the villain in their story is gone.

Sit with and analyze the hate, don’t live with it. Catch it, release it at the gym. Hate is the path to the dark side.

Comparison is the thief of joy. We were never meant to compare ourselves to curated views of other people’s lives.

Not making many friends at the gym but it’s been a massive boon to my mental health through all this.

Love this and agree. Face the anger and hate with positivity. Not because the other persons deserves it but because you deserve to live in peace.

Are you in therapy working on this?

It’s horrendous. It gives them complete control and some of them (not all) will yield that power to an almost evil extent.

Do not get dismissive and hostile. Not because your ex doesn’t deserve it, but because being that way affects you as well. You need to learn to be a grey rock, meaning someone who is unemotional and doesn’t engage emotionally. This is for you and especially your kids. It’s harder to do than I make it sound but it’s possible. Work on yourself and in doing that you will create armor to all her attacks. In particular, catch and release this anger. Release it at the gym, replay those conversations o…

Can’t control your wife’s friends (nor should you try). If she’s so easily influenced by new friends and new opinions and decides to change her marriage because of that, then that tells you how tenuous things were to begin with.

It’s like what they tell you in the safety briefings on airplanes; put your mask on before helping others. That’s counter to what society asks of men but it’s what allows you to maximize what you can provide for others. Value yourself and love yourself, don’t set yourself on fire to keep others warm.

Therapy unlocks so much. For me it was a time and place to be heard and validated which I couldn't even get from my STBXW. It's made me stronger, more resilient through this process and I plan to continue after everything is finalized.

Just starting the process of divorce and was thinking about what to do with my ring. Repurposing is a thought. Not to far from you, hello from Cape Cod!

Taking accountability and truly working on what led you to do those things for YOU, not for someone else, is the first step not towards being healthy in a relationship but being the best version of yourself. I'm in a similar situation. I've made some mistakes....some terrible ones. I finally put myself on a self improvement journey with the right therapist and mindset to get through the shame and regret of those things and truly get to the "why." This coupled with "catch and release" at the gym …

Divorce is hard. No path is the same and there are few things black and white in this process. Give yourself grace.

Really surprised there aren't more support groups out there. It's a rough time going through this crap. Surprised we don't have a group here on this subreddit to get together to talk via zoom or discord.

This 100% though it takes a very mindful approach. You need to have your own shit and thoughts under control. Act right in front of your kids, don’t stoop to that level. Live with peace in your heart, not anger or vitriol.

Gotta start with some research specific to your state. Chat GPT is a great starting point (reminder that is an AI and not legal advise but a good place to start)

Still talk to a lawyer and she should do the same. Need to know what to expect going into this.

Shrinking and Ted Lasso are fantastic. The bear doesn't touch on the same points but DOES touch on personal growth and family heavily.

If you are on a self improvement journey, none better than Atomic Habits. If you are looking for perspective in life or on your situation, Victor Frankl’s Man’s Search for Meaning.

Don’t run from the anger but as others said, you need to focus it. I call it catch and release. The gym or walking is the best way to channel this. You can say or think about all the things you wish you could say to her. Burn it out of you and you will be more at peace through the day.

"If you build it, they will come" In the same position, age and everything. My peace and my kids are the WHY. "A man with a WHY can bear any HOW."

Possible reconciliation here and really liked this. Well put.

It also means they don’t change. They carry that same behavior into future relationships. There aren’t a shortage of men to bed but there is a shortage of men who will support and care for you AND put up with selfish behavior that doesn’t get worked on.

None of this is “working on yourself” and i would agree it’s likely social media influenced (sounds like it).

Men group together in the trenches. It’s just how we are. You have to sit with the pain sometimes. Anger is catch and release (as my therapist puts it). When it surfaces at the wrong time, bottle it up but you gotta release it somewhere. Car, gym, screaming into a pillow. Can’t hold that in.

Thanks for sharing the word of your progress. It is very tough for us in the thick of it to see the other side and how great things can and will be.

100% on this. I used to just respond to her anger and attacks with my own. Now I just let it roll off and say what I really want whenever I’m in the car blasting some music. Rolling around in the mud together isn’t going to solve anything. Pursue peace for yourself and don’t live in constant anger or “why me.”
