Yes, great advice. I always wear sunscreen under my makeup, and never tan. I'll turn 30 next month and many people think I'm still in my early-mid 20s. Hoping that trend continues as I get older.

Consistent, dependable company is hard to come by, at least in my life. The following are just observations or hard lessons I've learned from failed friendships. If she's talking about someone else to you in a negative way. If she does this to someone else, she'll do it to you, too. Consistent and dependable women don't stir up gossip. If she overshares on social media. She's looking for validation from anyone and everyone. Consistent and dependable women don't look for outside validation and pu…

Good: I did not have any anxiety-related freakouts over the weekend. It was a great weekend full of relaxing, being at home, and sex. I've been wearing makeup and getting dressed every day, even though I don't work every day. I finally have a set schedule for getting stuff done around the house. Before, I'd just do things whenever they needed to be done, or whenever I could stand to do them. Now, I've been forcing myself to clean the bathroom even if it's not dirty, or washing sheets/towels regu…

Me too! Read it recently but could stand reading it again since I'm now trying to put things into practice.

I'm in a similar situation. History is repeating itself with my sister and her new relationship and baby on the way, and she has an ex-husband and a kid from that marriage. From experience, my sister and I are close but I can't say anything to her. I've tried and it blew up in my face. She has my mom (my dad's pretty darn beta) and her 'friends' on her side who validate everything she does. If she ever comes to you for advice, that's one thing. But unfortunately sometimes you have to just watch …

I'm astonished at the advice on the subreddit though, telling her to divorce him and that he's a jerk etc etc. I'm not surprised at all. I read that thread knowing what advice people would give her.

These were exactly my thoughts.

Thanks for this. This is great information and a good reminder. I'd say our sex life is super healthy. I don't give bullshit reasons for not wanting sex, and I'd say our libidos match up pretty well. The only thing I have trouble with is when I'm on my period, or right before it starts, my libido drops dramatically. Partially I know it's hormones. I'm off the pill so I can actually feel real fluctuations in my hormones now. Partially it's that I know we're not 'going all the way' because my peri…

I also gave up Facebook (and Instagram) for Lent. Don't remember if we've talked about that before? But I am so much happier and feel better now that it's been over a week. I feel slightly disconnected, but that's the good old FOMO that Facebook uses to keep their followers.

Yes, it is a huge waste of time. I find myself spending more time on Reddit, but Reddit is more informative, and it's anonymous.

Same here. My husband was military and I never sent nude photos. Just never felt comfortable doing that because of it floating around.

I do it by month. We actually plan weekly, so I don't keep things like beef and chicken on hand. It comes from a habit that my family had growing up where there was just always excess food that was never used, so I'm kind of the opposite now. Besides the basics, I basically clean out my cupboard every week. I have boards for meals for the particular month, and then meals in general, salads and sides, desserts, and adult beverages.

I've been using Pinterest for meal planning and it's working great. I have a board for each month and I pin meals, and then once a week when we plan meals and shop, my husband can see the ones I thought looked good and let me know if it's something he'd like to see on the calendar.

when I tried it as a personal outlet, it actually made me prone to rant more than normal, which was the reason I left. The same thing happened to me. I found better and more efficient ways to complain passive-aggressively, so I cut it out.

Interesting responses. Taking a hiatus from Facebook and Instagram and noticed that I feel so much more balanced and calm and less angsty. I also notice that conversations with my husband rarely include things I found to nitpick on those sites. :) I will go back to using instagram because I mainly use it for the running communities on there.

I've heard a few recently.. 'You have a pretty face.' 'You're my favorite.' 'I love your body.' They're simple but mean a lot.

No he isn't. I know he reads posts but I don't think he's contributed anything.

Thanks. I did pick a good man, and somehow in my 17-year-old mind I knew he was good 13 years ago. :)

Lent is a special time of year for me, and this year I put a lot of thought into what I was going to do and why. I'm following page with daily devotionals and doing some freewriting on my blog about the daily topic. I'm also reading through Timothy Keller's book Prayer, and it turns out to be about 7 pages a day. In order to effectively do all that, I'm not logging into Facebook or Instagram. It's really a hamster wheel that I'm jumping off of, and even only 4 days into this, I feel so much bett…

I'm also giving up Facebook and Instagram. Trying to get that hamster wheel to turn less. ;)

It totally does help, thank you! I've been setting the coffee pot to come on automatically in the morning and making sure leftovers are put into lunch containers for the next day. I already miss teaching, but fortunately I have a couple opportunities to do different part time teaching. It'll get my foot in the door and allow me to still get things settled at home.

I also love the structure of work. My husband just left the military for the civilian life we've been waiting for, and we were also in the middle of a desert duty station. :)

Sometimes it's hard to think about writing and research when I'm not talking/doing it all day every day, but I can see the importance of continuing on my own time. A major conference for my field will be held close to where I live in the spring, so I'm making plans to go to that for sure. Also a great way to network.

I think it's so important for me to have my own things. I am naturally an introvert, but when it comes to having a circle of my own, I have to and actually become more extroverted until I've established a life for myself. He was in the military, so I was forced to do this on a regular basis while he was away. I love that: The best thing you can do for your SO is to continue to be your best you. This is so true. I've seen what happens to friends and family who don't continue to do this.

they simply don't realize that pay and benefits can be negotiated. I am in this camp.. I never realized this was an option. It's possible that it's because in my field (education) you're paid according to the salary schedule.

I do most of the finances. We go over our budget together monthly and come to terms on our financial decisions. But I go online to pay bills and move the transactions into the budget. This is what works for us. There's no way in our marriage that only one person would handle everything financial.
