I was raised in the world of feminism. Was told my whole life I could do anything a man could do. No one ever told me that the things women do were worthwhile. In my world, stay at home moms were failures who couldn't cut it at a career. So I pursued achievement. Ivy league undergrad and medical school. A few women in my medical school class got pregnant and never worked. The rest of us snickered at them for being weak and "giving up" on their careers. In reality I was just jealous. Continued to…

I also grew up with a single mom who told me to prioritize my career so I never had to depend on a man. I'm working on it too. I had to get someone to pick me up from an anesthetic procedure recently and I had to work up the courage for days to ask my boyfriend to pick me up. I felt so guilty asking him for this favor. Im pretty sure I have spent my life turning men off by being too self-sufficient. My ex-husband walked out the door complaining that I wouldnt share bank accounts. It was because …

Are you turned on by him? Do you want to have sex with him or are you anxious about it? You have to be turned on. If you are anxious in anticipation of pain you will not get turned on. This can be a vicious cycle. Why is the first sex lasting for an hour? It takes him that long to orgasm? I've had good sex and bad sex and painful sex. You need to be turned on. It gets you wet but there are also other changes that make sex feel good rather than bad. I'm not sure what the issue it. There are a few…

those don't sound like high value men to me. they sound like men with bad values.

First, it's good to hedge your bets. Both of these career choices are stable and pay reasonably, so it's best to have a plan B. Secondly, successful men who want a stay at home wife generally want a well educated wife. They want a woman they can talk to and relate to, that they can bring around their friends and not be embarassed. If you're intelligent enough to, get an education. You might find you want a career. And if not, at least you'll have a back up plan.

When I read this post I initially had a negative reaction to it (my first thought was that it sounds like you just want a man to take care of you while you sit around and be lazy.) On the other hand, you came here for advice. I think you have two options: 1) Find a guy who doesn't want kids and is content not being rich. You still have to contribute in a way that is valuable to him. This is more than cooking, cleaning, and sexual gratification. Good relationships are about giving, not taking. 2)…

thanks for sharing- that is interesting. I think there i a lot of judgement from the US about the middle east, and because of it, sometimes good people and good ideas are dismissed

Thank you for your perspective! What part of the world, if I might ask? And are things changing where you live and is it for better or worse?

You need to have a conversation about your goals in life, and your values. It's scary and it might mean losing him, but you should do it. Also, take care of yourself but stop obsessing over your appearance. Men don't want a perfect looking woman who is also high strung. Mostly they want a nice looking woman who treats them with respect and likes to have sex with them.

Please don't believe everything you read on the internet. I think only a small fraction of men (and most of them might be incels living in their mom's basement) think that truly successful men just want a neverending parade of hot 20 year olds. Some sociopaths do, but most don't. Lots of successful, masculine men want a woman who looks pretty but with whom they can also actually connect, and who can provide them the support and love they need to continue to pursue their stressful careers. Also, …

I had bulimia for nearly 2 decades and am fully recovered. I don't even think about food other than anything as sustenance anymore when I used to obsess about it 24/7. It feels like a miracle. I woke up every day for 2 decades telling myself I wouldn't binge/purge and every single day I failed to the point I just wanted to die. Now food is just something I eat when I'm hungry. The key for me was to start to focus on health rather than weight. I haven't weighed myself in years. I see food as nutr…

You seem to be equating physical attractiveness with high quality. Is physical attractiveness really your #1 criteria? Unless it's really important to you, stop obsessing over height and appearance. It's probably reasonable to value appearance insofar as it equates to health (ie avoid men who are morbidly obese, drink heavily, smoke) but maybe start evaluating men for their other characteristics? You might find if you go for short men, for example, you'll find some real diamonds in the rough bec…

Who do people here talk so much about dating out of your league then? I see that phrasing used a lot, but way you put it (dividing it into SMV and RMV) makes more sense. How then, do you know your SMV and RMV? Simply by the way people respond to you? Your story reminded me of another: I have a guy friend who told me a story about how an ex-girlfriend complained to him that he never told her she was beautiful. He responded to her that she was "pretty enough." At first, I was shocked he would say …

It can be difficult! And having some close girlfriends is so important. I went through a lot in my late 30s/40s and the women that were there for me are some of my closest friends now. Closer even than childhood friends. With each of these women it felt very superficial at first but as we all went through various life experiences and difficulties and shared them with each other we became closer. I’ll admit in my first marriage I was very close to my husband and neglected female friends because m…

Thank you for the suggestion but I've had a few friends go down this path and they are all suffering from serious mental health issues trying to be both mom and dad at once. If I do have the stability/time in my life to care for children as a single woman I will probably become a foster mom. :)

Haha thanks, totally only realized these "facts of life" after my divorce around age 37 but alwayd good to re-read. How the heck did I make it so long not knowing that men are different from women? I was brainwashed by feminist ideas. I got 1 and 2 down pretty well but it was #3 I struggled with the most. Silly me. You live and you learn. Now I date and bring up marriage/children almost immediately. If they're frightened away by that, better to loose them quickly then date them for a few months …

Thanks! I had made an appointment about a year ago to do this and cancelled it because of my age and the number of cycles i'd need to do. I just made a new one. Gonna cost probably 40k to get enough eggs to have a good probability of success but whatever! :)

Yes, this. Nearly every single one of my so-called platonic male friends has eventually told me they wanted a romantic relationship. I really try to avoid it now. To op: even though you may think it’s platonic I doubt your boyfriend’s friend views it that way.

Thanks! It just sounds scary. I have a few friends who have done it and many of them are having some serious mental health issues trying to balance raising a child with a full time job good enough to support a child (meaning having to pay a nanny and also be a mom). I think it could work for women with a lot of good social support (moms, sisters, grandmothers around) or tons of money and not a really stressful/time consuming job, but it's not a path I want to go down. I do think if the kids thin…

Haha thanks so much for your nuanced response. The drunk at the bar was a bit of a joke - absolutely not that would be a nightmare!!! But funny you mention it...my more blue-pilled friends keep suggesting I go to a sperm bank to get pregnant and the idea of deliberately being a single mom is unfathomable (no disrespect to those of you who are single moms, you are amazing and beautiful...I just wouldn't choose that path intentionally). And yes I am ovulating regularly and have reasonable fertilit…

Well...it might be puzzling because I do not have orgasms with sex. Many women do not. And by orgasm, I mean specifically how a man experiences an orgasm - there is a build, and a climax, and after the climax you don't want any more because it's uncomfortable and no longer enjoyable - a "refractory period." Personally, I have to choose because sex does not lead to orgasm most of the time for me (and apparently like 80% of women or more)

I didn't read your whole post but as someone who figured this out at nearly 40 (kudos to you for seeing through the bs sooner) figure it out quickly and decide if you need to move on. It's going to become only more important and pressing as you get older. Don't wait or you'll be a desperate and sad middle aged woman like me and so many other women.

I feel you completely. There is this bizarre paradox in the modern american (I assume you are american?) world. Women should be able to be exactly like men - get the same careers, achieve the same "success", and yet men are supposed to pay on dates? It seemed not right to me even as a woman. If we are all the same, why should they pay? If I don't pay, do I appear to be using them? But if I do pay, am I insulting them? And if I let them pay every time, do they think I am using them for their mone…

That's very interesting that you find it erotic. She probably loves that. As far as male drive wanting to know the woman orgasm'd, maybe it is true, but I also wonder a bit if it's projecting the importance of climaxing for males onto females. Orgasming (and this may be me projecting) is such a central mindset for males. It's so important. So men often want women to have the same experience, out of care and love, when in fact, it's not what we desire because we aren't men. On the other hand, I'v…

I didn't expect many men to be reading this! But that is very interesting to hear. I would take my opinion with a grain of salt because I can't speak for all women, but it's been revelatory for me when I acknowledged to myself that orgasm was not the be-all and end-all of sex for me.

haha i moved here because i was approaching middle age and felt like it was the only place there were single men my age and older. I'm not interested in dating younger men because they'll leave me for someone younger in 10 years. But what I've discovered is men here don't want to settle down until they are about 60 (the only men who have shown serious relationship interest have been close to 60)...because why would they? And for the record....I HATE sex in the city. :)

Thank you! Is there a list of the sorts of gestures that men like? This is such a novel concept to me! I had to look up SMV and RMV and I think I have an issue that I've never had high SMV before but now I do (this is not meant as a humblebrag...i've always had a very good body but now im trying to be more feminine and my friends have recently told me that men flock to us and stare when I'm with them lately) and I don't know how to handle it (i'm flattered, and flattery works on me...so i sleep …

No, I'm not setting any expectations because I've been told that telling a man you're only interested in a serious relationship is the best way to make him run away. And dating sort of sucks. I do love meeting new people. It's the rejection part that sucks. I wish they'd reject me outright after 1 date...but they always seem to let it linger for 3 or 4 dates before calling it quits, right about when I'm catching feelings.
