The reason they hate us so much is because they aren't a men's activism sub like they say they are, they're a feminist sub that doesn't hate men quite as much as the other mainstream feminist subs. And I'm non binary, this isn't even coming from a place of feeling personally attacked, it's just what I see nonstop.

There's no way to be sure based on the current stats. In all likelihood men account for the majority of rapists, but not by nearly as high a margin as people assume. The reason the stats are messed up is because they essentially can go by two sources, police reports or anonymous polling, both of which result in underreporting of female perpetrators. Police reports because in many countries female rapists are simply not considered rapists under law and in the countries where they are the vast maj…

They don't necessarily hurt the men's activism movement, but they don't help it either. At least they're willing to see men as complex human beings and admit that gender expectations hurt men too. But they still promote harmful stereotypes and condone general fear and distrust of men. Not great.

I agree with your point but I think intersectionality is still important. Especially since black issues and men's issues are so closely intertwined. Radfems are saying that black men are still bad and gay men are still bad, so it's very important that a men's movement directly opposes that and asserts that it's not okay to strip someone of perceived oppression just because they are male.

And why aren't feminists equally outraged?? This plays into the infantilization of women as well as male disposability. It hurts women too but I never see anyone calling it out on women's behalf. Probably because if they brought any attention to it people would realize that it treats male lives as less valuable.

Gender fluidity is where that bug sometimes shows up and sometimes is dormant. So for me, I'll sometimes feel trans mtf and sometimes be perfectly fine as a cis man. But usually I feel somewhere in between. I don't know how that links into the proprioception thing, but that's essentially how it is.

Yeah I've seen that there are some there, but it feels like they're just seen as an aesthetic to the people who follow that sub. If you look at the statistics of people who are out there are far more AFABs, and I can only think of like 2 AMAB non-binary tiktok/instagrammers who have a following, and a hell of a lot more AFABs.

True. I'm not interested in being the breadwinner in a relationship, and you'd think my feminist friends would love that, but not really. Turns out eliminating gender expectations isn't actually their goal. God I hate gender roles.

That's good. It's definitely been easier for me to convince my lesbian friends than straight friends lol. I think because straight white women feel like if men get activism then they don't have any reason to feel 'oppressed', and lesbian women, even if they're white, don't feel threatened by that. Not that feeling oppressed is something people should want (take it from a gay nonbinary person), but nonetheless they do. Also it's kinda hilarious when people say "men have all the rights" lmao, I …

MGM is the most obvious one. Plus there are more than a few teachings in Abrahamic religions that wouldn't fly post men's activism, like forcing men to be the breadwinner and protector, stigmatizing femininity among men, and having male worth be contingent on what he provides for his wife. Religion is basically a means of controlling the masses. I'm not an atheist but I'm more than willing to criticize a religion that perpetuates archaic, sexist beliefs. I think having left wing in the name helps some, but I've already seen some people claiming it's just a gateway to tankie/communist-conservative ideology. Like, do we need to change the name to Progressive Left Wing Women's Rights Supportive Gender-Queer Supportive Pro-BLM Male Advocates before they'll finally believe that we're in favor of those things lol??

Vaush is the most open to it that I've seen, although the guy that he got to talk about it was really bad. He's definitely one of those people that supports men's activism but wouldn't call it men's activism ya know? Like he'd say that female on male rape should be defined as rape, but he wouldn't say that the fact that it isn't is indicative of a need of any real systemic change.

But trying to eradicate them, and pretending that there are no differences between men and women is just denying reality. This isn't exactly what I'm trying to do, but I understand what you're saying. I mean that even though there are differences between men and women, these should not be formed into a set of rules. gender roles are tightly linked to our biological dimorphism. That may be true, but that only defines the attitudes of large groups of people, not individuals. Of course I don't view…

When I talk to a moderate, I always only start by talking about conservative misandry and the certain ways in which men have been disadvantaged due to the gender expectative system. And if I feel comfortable enough with them that I don't think they'd react negatively to me talking about feminist misandry as well I'll sometimes do that, but I'm more passionate about opposing conservative misandry anyways since it has more historical significance. In my experience they'll typically agree with me…

I sort of agree with this. I say "feminist misandry" instead of "progressive misandry", because progressive misandry is an oxymoron, progressivism is inherently anti-sexist. Male gender roles are misandristic in my opinion, so is the draft, domestic abuse laws, valuing men as a factor of their wealth, mgm, gay men being 30x as likely to be hate crimed as lesbian women because social deviance among men is much more harshly punished than among women, excluding female on male rape from rape definitions, 94% of police violence victims being male, sexism in judicial courts, in certain countries the death penalty only being allowed for men, male physical and mental health…

I support many women's right initiatives but I find feminism is wrought with inconsistencies, hypocrisy, and lacks accountability for it's more radical members. At the same time, I support many initiatives in the men's rights movement but find they spend far too much time and energy complaining about feminism instead of working on sociopolitical change to achieve the initiatives they want for men. I'm a race and gender abolitionist, so I agree that it's dumb when people put more emphasis on race rather than less, but I do think that while race is a social construct, racism isn't, so I think blm, end asian hate, etc. are all very good causes. It's the same way with men's activism. I'm a gender abolitionist, so I think sex is a social construct. But sexism isn't. So it still makes sense to have a movement for men.

I used to try as hard as I could to be masculine, which caused a lot of mental problems like imposter syndrome and social anxiety. I didn't realize it then but it was only because that's what people forced on me. I still have to be fairly masculine at home but when I'm at school I can act more naturally. I didn't really see much of a difference in the way that men and women treated me when I didn't comply to gender roles, contrary to what I've heard some women say. I think women's sexism and men…

/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates10/05/21 01:43 AM

It has a really implicitly sexist undertone. Men are more complex than people realise, and I hate when people make jokes about stuff like, 'men will do anything to look at boobs', cuz even though I'm attracted to women as well as men I really DON'T want to look at boobs all the time, most of the time I explicitly avert my attention because I'm not usually in the mood. I just wish people would see men as complex in their sexuality the way they see women most of the time.

Ugh I hate this kind of stuff. It's like I can never catch a break, if I hang out with conservatives they're sexist because they force stupid gender stereotypes and expectations on me, and treat men like sex obsessed monsters, and if I hang out with liberals it's better because I can be feminine but they say shit like "women are more attractive than men in general" which sucks too. /r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates04/05/21 05:53 AM

Yup. Capitalism is, in my opinion, the entire reason that sexism and gender roles exist, for everyone, male female or nb. Capitalists used to value men and women in different roles because of the differences biologically, men could work hard labor easier, and women could raise the next generation of workers easier. It was efficient. Still morally wrong to force people into these boxes, but they were capitalists, they didn't care. But after the industrial revolution and into the modern age there'…

Yeah. I know people will come at you for this and just say you're an incel mra but that's kinda part of the problem. Yeah, this is exactly why I usually take this sub with a grain of salt. It feels like almost all the posts that talk about misandry here are focused on misandristic feminists, and ignoring the huge amount of misandry that conservatives spew. Honestly I think pretty much all of mens problems come from conservatism or capitalism, and are at most reinforced by some feminists. And I think the best way forward is just to get ppl to support both feminism AND mens activism, not just one or the other.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates11/04/21 11:19 PM

Yup. And so much of it goes unreported too. I've been sexually assaulted by a woman but that sure as hell wouldn't show up in that data because there was literally no one for me to talk to about it, and even if I could report it to somebody there's no chance they would've taken me seriously.

They genuinely think that men's activists are all conservatives and refuse to understand that the majority of men's activists are allied to trans issues, gay pride, blm, end asian hate, etc. I try to approach these types with an "all you have to lose is your chains" sort of approach. When I talk to the moderate feminists I know they're all thankfully willing to recognize male victims, and they don't generally get upset with me for talking about mens issues. But I live in a hyper progressive town so its probably easier for me to convince them than for some of you.

I kind of agree tbh. White ppl dont face systemic issues in the way men do, it rly doesnt make sense to say that racism against white ppl is at all comparable to sexism against men. It isn't okay to be racist against white people, but it's less culturally significant (in europe, the us, and canada) than racism against bipoc ppl.

Yeah makeup is makeup but it isn't marketed as such. Until makeup is marketed androgynously and men aren't condemned for wearing it it makes sense to have some specifically for men. It's also a good entry point for men who still have internalized sexism, so they can still feel like they're fitting their gender expectations while wearing makeup.

It exists, nothing is gonna change that, so why don't we make it equal? It really isn't that big of a deal if someone wants to make themself look pretty. It's also pretty important in gay male culture, i.e. drag races, which I don't think we ought to be taking away from those men. (I'm bisexual myself, so it's kind of important to me not to be taking away from gay culture) I really don't see how a men's rights activist could look at this and not see it as a win

Because of intersectionality, it's impossible for a men's rights advocate to be anti BLM. Being killed by the police: More men than women More black people than white people Education bias: Targets men Targets black people The list goes on. Focus on men's issues, black people are genuinely oppressed so don't come on here and say 'woe is white', you're giving a bad name to the movement in general.

I don't have any specific examples, but I feel like it might be from ppl from r/mensrights who think this sub would be similar, which it thankfully mostly hasn't been since I joined. I just hope the influx of new members lately doesn't skew it to be just another conmra sub.

Yeah, there have been some hateful ideas going back that far, but that shouldn't be synonymous with women's activism, which has been necessary since the industrial revolution (which abolished the need for gender roles in society), and still is necessary in certain ways, albeit less so than men's activism. The only problem is when women's activists minimize the need for men's activism. Not all feminists think the same way, so while it certainly is safe to say that some feminists even back then we…

Nice, I've got a small list of sources I've compiled from instagram @ thetinmen's posts if you'd like it to bring up, just put it in a word document and use ctrl f to find whichever source you need. Mra Sources · Girls get greater grades for the same work. https://doi.apa.org/doiLanding?doi=10.1037%2Fa0036620 · 92% of sex-specific scholarships are reserved for women. https://archive.is/8uz1S · Girls favored 2:1 over slightly more qualified boys in STEM applications. https://archive.is/kso7W · Wo…

I think they probably do actually care, because everyone can tell that the teacher of that class is a feminist who tries to minimize men's issues. If it was lip service I feel like they would've waited for another opportunity because this might actually affect their grade in the class.

I don't think it's even a hate filled minority of women it's just a hate filled minority of feminists, and I get the same feeling from radical male feminists as female feminists. I don't think that the feminist movement is inherently bad; I agree with their ideas when it comes to certain issues, but I think that a the hate filled minority of them have started excusing misandry and pretending that men don't have any gender based issues.

Thanks! It really helped me that all the girls in the class seemed open to the mrm and there were definitely a couple of other boys in the class who were into the movement in general, so we're making huge strides here!

Absolutely, yeah. I think a lot of people have gotten into the mrm recently as well, partially because as a society we're constantly moving further progressive, but also because a lot of people have a lot of free time right now so it's easier to notice something dumb that happens to men, like male rape victims not being recognized, and doing a lot more research into it and finding a page like ig @ thetinmen to really understand what it is that the mrm is about.

I think most of the moderate feminists I know are realizing that there needs to be a middle ground, and that women's issues can be addressed without minimizing men's. (Probably in part due to me talking about it on my ig story all the time lol, honestly I think five years ago I would've lost all my followers for posting mra stuff, but not so much anymore)

I wish. Theres really nothing I can do right now with quarantine and stuff, but I have mailed my representatives a few times. Other than that I'm mostly just posting some stuff from @thetinmen on my ig story to try and get people to realize that this is the direction progressivism is moving in. I lost a few followers for it (most from when I said "unfollow me if u think it's okay to hate men"), but I've still got around 550 followers who see it each time. A few of them regularly drop a like on t…

Yup. That's exactly why the white women have trouble backing up their claims that men don't face issues. The intersectionality makes it impossible to be either pro-mra and anti-blm or vice versa. They are typically pro-blm but they can't explain why the same issue doesn't matter when it's intersectional with being male.

If a man hits a woman the man's seen as a piece of shit. If a woman hits a man the man's still seen as a piece of shit. It's absolutely mindblowing how terrible people treat male abuse victims.

Over half of women who die by suicide have a previous attempt, whereas less than half of men who commit suicide have a prior attempt. https://www.verywellmind.com/gender-differences-in-suicide-methods-1067508 I couldn't find my original source for it, but this does allude to it.

"women attempt suicide more" I know this isn't the main point, but that's actually not true. While most suicide attempts are from women, most people who attempt suicide are men. Women are more likely to decide against it, then try again later, which inflates the numbers. When men commit suicide they're more likely to be very decisive about it, because many of them feel that they don't have anyone who would care if they did.

This is exactly why it's impossible to be pro mra and not blm, or vice versa. Intersectionality plays such a huge factor.

Nah dude, the truth is that you can find radicals of any movement going back to the start of it. I'm sure people will try to do the same thing to the mra movement eventually. Feminism sure does have some hateful ideology but the greater issues are the gender roles and oppression that men have faced forever. Long before feminism.

It was saying that there are negative effects of so called, 'Benevolent Sexism' to women, but the most important ones are against men. That post is from, imo, the best mra account on instagram, just cut him some slack. He's arguing against it and saying that it leads to male perpetrator bias.

I think the thing they're missing is that men are more willing to work in a pandemic and risk getting sick, because we're taught that our income and ability to provide is more important than our life and livelihood.

Fair. I just posted on my ig story today basically saying "This person hates men, here are some examples of men's problems, if you are on the person's side, please unfollow me." I got some insane amounts of hate from about five or six different girls, and it's only been up for four hours. I even lost three followers. They won't be missed. (All this was after clarifying that I don't oppose a single thing that feminists support, I only want two things. One, that they don't condone misandry, and …

I'd say I'm a bit more moderate, I don't think that feminism is all bad or even unnecessary, I just strongly oppose the misandristic ideas that mainstream feminists tend to promote. Parts of it are good, and parts are bad, just like anything. And I think that anyone who doesn't think there is any need for a men's movement is woefully ignorant of the state of gender issues.

What? lmao class is the biggest struggle but if you can see why both a working class movement and a men's movement are necessary then you should also be able to comprehend that a black lives matter and women's movement are necessary too. Not every movement has to be about you.

No, sexism against men is not casual or trivial. It is not harmless, or perpetuated entirely by men. And yes, it is often *systemic*. And sorry, but no – we’re not going to fix these problems by telling men to cry. No more minimising men’s issues. Acknowledge that both women and men face systemic issues of sexism, or acknowledge you are part of the problem. . .
