I love this for you ❤️ No better feeling than this, for sure. Purchasing my own home after suffering LV narc abuse for several years was the best day of my life. Enjoy making this space your own!

Like recording someone without their consent is the answer 🤦🏼‍♀️

It’s really not so complicated. I for one, always check that the person I’m having sex with actually wants to have sex with me. I could easily demonstrate that they gave consent, without them signing anything. We tell guys when we want to have sex with them. We say, “I want to have sex with you” or some variation of this. We demonstrate it by pulling them closer, telling them that it feels good, that we’re into it, that we want them to do a, b or c. If they stop moving, if they make any noises o…

Also watching this with interest. I hope I’m not being naive, but I’m finally feeling a change in the way these things are reported in the media. It feels like people are getting more political in regards to women’s safety. I’m going to enjoy feeling this hope for a little while at least.

Lol you were a little harsh, but I get it, I do. I see long winded posts and think "girl, you're writing an essay to strangers on the internet, you already know you need to leave him." I do know something is wrong, but I guess you're right I don't want to break it off until/unless I'm sure that this is definitely something that is a deal breaker. I've been very strategic in this relationship, I'm not letting things slide just so I can keep the man. I have definitely stayed in previous relationsh…

Thanks for replying. I'm not caught up in a tiny bit of affection, if it came across that way then that's very embarrassing for me. Financial stability is an important thing that I am absolutely not wanting to ignore. I've gone and fallen in love (accidentally) so I'm quite aware that I'm invested and not completely rational, so came here for advice from women who know how to prioritise themselves in a relationship and share my values.

To be honest, I don’t know. I’d only be guessing. I’m going to try and have a conversation about finances with him soon.

Thanks for the encouragement. I’m going to bring it up. It’ll be uncomfortable for me, but not as uncomfortable as I will be down the track if I don’t address it now.

Thank you, really. I’m set up to be financially independent if I remain single. I have no debt besides my mortgage and a well paid job. It’s important to me to feel financially secure (my parents weren’t). I think my next focus should be on saving for egg freezing/IVF and possible single parenthood. I’ll see what he does over the next couple of months. I’m hoping I don’t need to end things.

You’re so right. I’ve worked hard (and continue working hard) to set myself up, with or without imminent plans for a partner or child and it annoys me that he hasn’t. It is a red flag, and if I’m honest with myself I should have noticed it sooner and not let myself get in this deep.

Thank you, I know the answer to some, but not all of the questions you’ve posed. So this might be a silly question, but are these things you speak about with a partner? My family is so weird about money. It’s kind of taboo. I honestly wouldn’t know how to even discuss this.
/r/askFDS19/02/21 02:48 AM

Thanks for this. Ah it hurts a bit but I have to agree that he is financially irresponsible. What kinds of actions should I be looking for to demonstrate that he’d be capable of providing for a family?

There’s nothing inherently wrong with going down on a guy for 20 minutes if you’re both really into it. There’s nothing inherently wrong with masturbating in front of a partner if you’re both really into it But there is something really wrong with continuing on with anything that your partner is not enjoying. You felt frozen and he didn’t notice and/or didn’t care. Then he negged you about blue balls (🙄) the next day. Block and delete.

Yes, he’s obviously still stuck on his exes. Your fiancé needs therapy. It’s not your job to help him through this, and not healthy for you to even try. I don’t think he’s in a place to be in a relationship. Definitely call off or postpone the wedding.

These are great suggestions. It’s obvious you care for and thought about u/D3dleaf’s safety and comfort. OP - if a kind stranger on the internet can think of these ideas, a HVM who wants to date you should be able to do the same, taking into account what’s possible and safe in your local area. If he can’t make an appropriate suggestion for a date (not a “hang out”) then that tells you all you need to know. Please don’t make these suggestions to him, that’s not your job. Edit: spelling

I don’t know the context of these comments. My guess is that maybe what people mean is that this should still be an expectation in a relationship. Just like during dating, we can’t make men put effort into a relationship.
/r/askFDS06/01/21 11:20 PM

You can’t. You just keep living your best life, levelling up, pursuing your own interests outside the relationship. He will either recognise your value and put in effort or he won’t. You’ll respond accordingly.

After seeing your post yesterday, I’m glad you’re still here. When abuse is what you have known, anything else that is not abuse can feel special and enticing at first. Even if it’s low effort, or someone showing even the mildest interest. I think that’s how you end up in these types of relationships. But it sounds like you know that this isn’t enough. It’s sounds like you’re a caring person. But the way you describe yourself as a giver and selfless, it seems like you may have some people pleasi…

Firstly, you haven’t made him anything - he’s a grown up. Secondly, this isn’t comfort; this is just low effort. Like someone else suggested, stop making plans and let him step up (or not). Who knows really, I can see why this is confusing for you. A lot of guys are good at saying what they think we want to hear and sometimes can seemingly have good boundaries and share our ideas about relationships, but they can’t maintain that long term. I just want to say, from what you’ve written here, it doesn’t look like you should have done something differently or even that you misread things. Sometimes things just don’t work out. Hmm “hot flame” and “off the charts chemistry” sounds like code for sex. His last relationships started with sex. I’m guessing if you were following FDS principles this hadn’t happened? Also 6 dates in and he expects you to be an open book? Nah, I don’t think so.

This is horrifying. When I left my ex with less than half the money I had put in to the house we bought together I made myself a promise that I would never be financially entangled with another person ever. I now own my own little house (well slowly slugging away at the mortgage) and no matter who comes into my life this house is mine. No matter what relationship/s I end up in in the future. It’s my insurance, it’s my get away plan, it’s my independence. I will never give up this little piece of…

Second this. If you text him all he’ll take from that is that you’re still thinking about him. He’s not going to feel remorse or apologise or HEAVEN FORBID, pay you back. Yes, absolutely. It’s been some years since the relationship ended but I remember that I felt like I was going crazy. I’ve never experienced anything like that before or since. Every boundary or value I had was trampled. The initial love bombjng, constant gaslighting and other acts to undermine my self worth really did a number on me. He convinced me to see a therapist because I “struggled to have empathy for him” (stopped putting up with his BS). It turned out to be the best thing. This therapi…

Thanks for your response. I’m definitely planning on remaining vigilant. I think I’ve just realised that I have sped the pace up and set things on a faster timeline than FDS recommends, now things feel too much too soon.

Thank you. Yep I like him a lot but I’m definitely not attached and I’m not invested in the outcome of this relationship. I’m very much in love with myself 🥰 After your last comment I read about future faking. I wonder now if I’ve accidentally been future faking... can you accidentally future fake? Thanks for your thoughtful response. No i haven’t told him I’ve been love bombed before. I haven’t talked to him about my experiences in previous relationships at all. I’ve been seeing him more often than once per week, more like 3 or 4 times per week. We’ve moved slightly into comfortable territory, which I know is not recommended. He works weekends and lives far from his work and far from my place so it has worked out for him to come to my house to get ready and take me out. I’ve definitely ma…

I stopped reading when you said you’re too scared to date anyone else and he keeps saying you’ll just get more STDs. Maybe you will, maybe you won’t. Be careful and make sure you have a good doctor who can give you advice on keeping safe in that regard. (Is he doctor??) Do no stay in a relationship for that reason. Being scared you won’t find someone else is never an ok reason to stay in a relationship.

It is weird right? Like you had NO IDEA she was like that before you added her on socials?? She seemed completely normal and then you were shocked she posted only nudes??!! I don’t know. When he comes over to my place after work he calls me and says he’ll be “home” in 20 minutes. I’ve been subtly responding with “see you when you get to my place”. From a week or two in he has said that he’s so glad he’s found me again (we actually met a few times several years ago when I was in another relationship). He has asked to introduce me to his son, which I declined and said I’d like to wait until things are more certain between us. He was fine with that. I feel like he’s really into me.…

Listen to her and take what she says seriously. Even the little things. Because to her, the little things are big things. Knowing that she has a mum that can listen to and handle the big things will keep her safe and let her know she can come to you with anything. When you’re putting in place boundaries for yourself, can you talk about it with her and make it more obvious, in an age appropriate way so she sees that putting in place boundaries is normal and healthy (and hard sometimes)

Thank you, I appreciate your response. I will move forward. His statements that he sees a future with me and knows 100% he wants to be with me made me feel uneasy. Is this something to address (do I tell him it’s too soon for that?) or just let that slide?

I agree that it’s dependent on several factors. With my narcissistic ex I let several friendships go. If you can’t support me even though I’ve told you what I’ve experienced then I cannot be friends with you. Often cleaner to just move one in most cases in my opinion. I don’t want to hear what he’s up to because you spoke to him recently or saw a post on Facebook earlier today. I don’t want to be disappointed that you’re not free next Saturday because you’re going out with him.

I’ve recently tried this when receiving a gift, having a date pay for dinner etc : 1. Take a deep breath and resist the urge to tell them that wasn’t necessary/they shouldn’t have/I’ll pay half/ I’ll pay next time. 2. Say thank you. Smile. Perhaps let them know that makes me feel happy/I love it. 3. Notice how I feel. It feels nice if the gift comes from someone i care for and who cares for me. 4. Notice how they respond. Usually they are happy with being thanked and happy to have been able to g…

Thanks so much for replying. Since following FDS this is the longest I’ve dated anyone. I’m determined not to ignore red flags like I have in previous relationships. I was also thinking about times when I was in unsafe situations (mostly parties I wasn’t allowed to be at) when I was 16 and felt too embarrassed or worried about consequences to call my mum. In hindsight, it would have been a much safer option to call my mum or another trusted adult than staying with the gross creepy guys at the party.
