Hi, when you talked about not wanting to go out with your husband because you feel ashamed, that broke my heart. :( I can't really give you great advice on the husband aspect, but what stuck out to me is that you need to work on your self esteem. One of the things that really helped me build my self esteem was to keep a journal about things I liked about myself. Every day, I would write three to five things I liked about myself in my journal, and then read them aloud to myself after. It sounds c…

I was prescribed birth control pills to "treat" symptoms of my PCOS when I was about 16. I probably went through like 10 different types of birth control pills with crazy side effects before settling for one that wasn't AS bad as the other ones. Fast forward to about 7 months ago, and I was tired of pumping my body full of artificial hormones, so I looked into getting an IUD. Best decision of my life, truly. I don't have to worry about pills, I don't have any crazy emotional side effects (the de…

I'm definitely not unhealthily fixated on marrying off asap. I'm trying to make the most out of every life-stage as they come. But yeah, I am definitely going to make an effort to worry less about what they think about this particular subject. It's so strange that talking about wanting to get married is such a touchy subject in 2017! Haha. I definitely worry about a few of my friends in that regard.

Good point- my family is very close, so it's definitely because they don't want to see me unhappy in the event that I do place a lot of focus on marriage and then end up divorced. Hopefully implementing the advice from this sub in my future relationship will help tip the scales back in my favor though, lol! Envy is an interesting point though, I guess I never really thought about it that way. It's probably a little bit of "the grass is greener" syndrome, too.

I agree on your last point. When you come at it from that angle, it can be tricky to realize that you can be a fully fledged individual while ALSO being a good compliment to another person to make another whole. I think people tend to think it's one or the other without realizing that it's a little bit of both, I think :)

Yeah; I definitely think it's coming from a good, albeit misguided place. That's what I'm hoping at least, lol.

Thanks for the reading suggestion; I love books, especially self-help ones, so I will definitely be picking it up on my next trip to Barnes & Noble! I definitely respect other peoples' opinions, and points of view. My empathy muscle might be a little too strong, if anything, lol. But recognizing that other people may be more rigid in their world-views, while recognizing that that doesn't necessarily mean that mine is wrong, is also something I should work on keeping in mind. It's just hard to wr…

Avoiding it is probably the course of action I'm going to take :) Exactly. True independence would probably be like living off the grid in the middle of Alaska or something lol. You're right though- human relationships, in any form, are definitely key to maintaining a healthy state of being. Though being single isn't my favorite thing in the world, I make it a point to be content with myself and my life so that even without a man, my base happiness is pretty good.

Thank you! They are definitely trying to be nice. If I had to guess, I'd think they're trying to downplay their relationships so I don't feel bad about not currently having one or something? Who knows. Either way, you made a good point about talking to people who have what I want. Obviously they did SOMETHING right, so advice from them is probably more helpful and less judgmental.

Thank you for your response! I think you hit the nail on the head with the belittling and humiliating part; I think that's why it bothers me as much as it does. I'd like to think I'm pretty good at deciding what I want out of life for myself, lol. You are right about refocusing my energy into more important things, though. :)

When I'm feeling especially funky/stressed, I like to put on clothes that make me feel cute, and spend a little more time than usual doing my makeup. Makeup is probably one of my favorite stress-relievers. Something about looking pretty and put-together on the outside helps my mental state feel much more put-together as well. I also like to do something physical, like go for a walk, or clean the house while blasting some feel-good music. Usually does the trick for me :)

Good point; I didn't think about it that way, as far as the likelihood of cheating goes. That's a big plus if that's true. I am not repulsed by him, haha. Just no "spark" yet. He definitely deserves a few more chances though for that spark to develop. Thanks!

That's true, you make a good point. I wouldn't want to hurt him any more than necessary if it doesn't end up working out. Three dates seems like a fair amount of time to figure that out, though.

It's definitely a blessing and a curse. I have to remember to be logical about vetting men because I can definitely get swept up in the feelings haha.

That's really interesting, actually. I love psychology related things, so it's nice to hear there's a scientific/psychological explanation for it haha. About your question: I'm not sure. I'm assuming after he offers commitment? I might not be the best to ask though haha. I have a very low n-count so I'm very hesitant to bring things into the bedroom unless I saw the relationship having potential.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
