Wow. This is retarded. You are completely failing at forming causal links. Romney would've done the exact same thing and he was staunchly opposed by feminists. Here is an example: If you're running an experiment to figure out why a liquid turns green occasionally you set up 2 copies of the liquid. One of them receives a test treatment, in this case feminist juice, and the other doesn't. If both of them turn green you don't fucking claim feminist juice is the cause. I cannot downvote this post en…

Actually it does. By admitting that a person opposed by feminists would've done the same thing you've admitted that the causal link you are implying is imaginary. Just in case that wasn't clear: If Romney, who was staunchly opposed by feminists, would've behaved in exactly the same manner as Obama, who was supported by feminists, then feminism has been shown to have no influence on the matter. Feminism has serious issues but it's no more responsible for the state of affairs than any other intere…

How are you so naive about creating effective social change? I simply don't get it. Of course the guilty by association phallacy is a phallacy. That's why it's called a phallacy. I don't care that you're talking about the perception, it's not less wrong for that. It works regardless of how wrong it is. Feel free to make your noble stand and ignore the fact that you're being falsely slandered based on the actions of others. I'm glad you're so comfortable failing to accomplish anything because you…

Now you're getting it. Let me break it down again: that's the MRM being viewed as "guilty" "by association" with "those few." You didn't answer my question. Does it make us look bad or doesn't it? I have never said we're all douchebags because a few of us are. I am saying that to the outside observer, AKA the people we're trying to convince, that's how it looks. It doesn't have to be true for people to believe it which is why we need to confront it every chance we get. You seem to be talking abo…

Since when is providing an argument against a behavior an attempt to control people? Control requires a lack of choice. What we're doing is generally referred to in english as persuasion. You and everybody else here has the choice to behave however the hell you want. I have no interest in taking that choice away from you. I am however very interested in providing a perspective that will allow you to make a different choice. The guilt by association phallacy typically means dismissing one persons…

I'm clearly arguing against your disingenuous abuse of guilt by association to tell others to be respectful because it makes you look bad. Wat? I'm not even really sure what you're saying here. OPs original post was a plea to people to stop feeding the guilt by association monster that allows people to rationallize ignoring the MRM without hearing what we have to say. The very first thing I said was that guilt by association, while being irrational, is effective and that I would rather people tr…

The only way you should 'accept' it is just by realizing that it's going to be out there no matter how many boots you lick in submission, or on the converse how often you insult people. Heres where we disagree. If you're in the right then respectfully disagreeing is not an act of submission. Arguing with facts instead of vitriol is not an act of submission. I mean look at Malcolm X. I don't think anybody could ever accuse him of licking boots and yet never once in his debates did he resort to na…

Way to keep a cool head bro. Maybe you missed my point, it was a brief reply so thats probably my own fault. My point is that what seems like anger to you looks like whining to everybody else. The only thing that will change that is facts not more anger. Edit: Just so I don't get caught up in an argument based solely on a misunderstanding I'm going to check: You're arguing that we should just accept guilt by association right?

I'm not going to waste time arguing whether or not those things are the result of feminist activities but I really don't think it's fair for you to speak for their intentions. People are mostly good and try to do good so when they hear something that sounds like justice they follow along. The average feminist is very well intentioned. Why would they bother slandering the MRM if they weren't? It would be a total waste of their time and effort to discredit good ideas from a different source if nob…

I've always found that the vast majority of feminists want the same things we do but simply have a narrower/different view of how the world actually is. For the most part I've almost always found I can agree with feminists about how the world SHOULD be but can't agree on how it IS. That does not make them my enemy.

It doesn't take a political scholar to see how effective logical fallacies can be in causing societal change. Guilt by association has silenced more logical arguments than reasoned responses ever has.

It seems as though there are two ways to fight that inequality: Assume everyones anger justifies attention in the absence of evidence or assume no ones anger justifies attention in the absence of evidence. If you've ever had to deal with a toddlers temper tantrum you'll probably agree with me that option 2 is better. We live in a time of anonymity such that everybody can cry wolf and nobody can call them on it. We should remember that for both genders. But neither does anger make people wrong pa…

I'm with you except for one point: the goal of arguing with feminists should be to influence them and the audience. This notion that all feminists are these entrenched idealogues is idiocy. They are as much our target audience as anybody else. The problem is that the people who tend to initiate conversations with feminists alone tend to be the ones most prone to calling them bitches or sluts or cows.
/r/MensRights04/06/13 01:16 PM

If people are angry, lets assume they have a valid reason, and that shouldn't be ignored or hidden. There are plenty of angry feminists out there that would love for you to apply this reasoning universally. The hiding part I agree with but there are enough women hating douchebags on reddit as a whole for me to justify ignoring them. Being angry doesn't make you're opinion worth hearing and the assumption that it does is dangerous.

Hi. My understanding based on study's from all types of sources is that when you include intimate rape your statistics are reasonable but when you are only discussing nonsexual physical abuse they aren't. I've read a few DoJ studies and they all at least once mention that non-sexual domestic violence is fairly even. Can you link me the studies you're referring to as I may have missed them? I'm not suggesting directly influencing what people think or suppressing their sexuality I'm suggesting a creating a culture where intellect is valued above body but body is still valued. I'd like to see young boys objectifying young girls for their minds as well as their bodies if you'll pardon the crude phrasing. Given the rather absurd things people fetishize in different cultures historically it doesn't seem impossible to me to create such a culture. Unlike feminists I'm suggesting we do it …

You have to admit though that simply accepting these behaviors isn't the most productive solution. I don't think we should be shaming people for instinctual behaviors but the old "boys will be boys" mentality isn't really any better. Sure it's healthy to enjoy boobs but isn't it healthier to enjoy them with a decent set of thoughts at least from a societal stand point?

Every buddy is in a huff about this and I get it that framing this as a specifically male problem is offensive but maybe we should just be replacing this in a more gender neutral way instead of bitching and moaning about it. Yes sexual objectification is natural but so is shitting in holes. We managed to get over that we can probably get over this.

I think I've misunderstood you. Of course willfully ignoring a "no" is not an accident even based on the assumption that "her eyes are saying yes." I'm talking about the rape cases where the girl simply doesn't say "yes," and that becomes sufficient grounds to prosecute. I don't have any numbers on the subject but anecdotally I know a girl who during a drunken hookup didn't want to go all the way but froze up for fear the guy would hit her and simply didn't say "no." I more or less agree with you but I'm feeling feisty so I'm gonna argue anyways. The first definition that pops up on google for "accident" is An unfortunate incident that happens unexpectedly and unintentionally, typically resulting in damage or injury. If someone has sex with someone else without knowing that they don't want to they are unintentionally violating that person. An event without intentionality or expectation is an accident. The real flaw is how fucked up their definition of rape has become. The vast majority of rapes are committed by people you know and studies have shown that a large portion of rapes can be prevented by even a little verbal or physical resistance. This could imply that a significant portion of rapes are simply the result of miscommunication. Merely accidents. Yet feminists insist on viewing all rapes as the man in the alley with a knife despite the fact that this is relatively rare. This explains …

This study did a pretty good job asking a similar question for both genders. Worth the read and the bibliography is pretty solid. Self deception is a very common behaviour. I see it all the time, men and women deceive themselves about their own motivations and other peoples. The information OP gives is easily enough to say that this wasn't an accident in any real sense. You sound like the cops in this story. I'm not really a feminist basher, I'm even subscribed to /r/feminism as well, so I totally agree with you. However, in it's current form feminism doesn't just promote women, in many ways it actively hurts men as well. Also, crazy can be incredibly difficult to identify sometimes. Waiting isn't necessarily a solution in every case. Furthermore, it's not like waiting until you know a girl really well is an effective way to get laid in every case. Gathering data before acting is always the best option under ideal conditions but conditions aren't always ideal and data isn't always perfect.

Men could vote because they were required to potentially give their lives for their country. Where does it say that in any legal text? Or to put it more simply: prove the above statement. I would argue that: Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed... Indicates that in the eyes of the authors of the Declaration of Independence consent, or voting in it's democratic form, is a right of the governed. They may have had some old school ideas ab…

Thanks for replying in such a civil manner. I think "And that's assuming all of these are a result of feminism, and not just the constitution which has been in place for centuries," is a fair question to ask actually. Personally I think institutions, particularly govt institutions, tend to be fairly lazy so even though many of these are logical extensions of constitutional principles it takes some harassment to get things moving. This is a purely subjective justification of the potential influen…

Wait. Did I just read you saying that the right to vote being extended to women wasn't an act of equality? The right to vote wasn't mens because some of them fought and died in wars but because that's the definition of democracy. Do you actually believe that unless members of a group have fought and died for a right the group as a whole doesn't deserve it?

Heres a fairly selective list from wikipedia: 1991: In Automobile Workers vs. Johnson Controls, the U.S. Supreme Court declared that employers could not exclude women from jobs in which exposure to toxic substances could harm a developing fetus. 1993: The Family and Medical Leave Act became law in the U.S. 1994: The Gender Equity in Education Act became law in the U.S. It banned sex-role stereotyping and gender discrimination in the classroom. 1994: Marital rape was declared illegal in the Unite…

The following sentiment needs to end: “I’m really tired of people suggesting that you’re somehow un-American if you don’t respect the presumption of innocence, because you know what that sounds like to a victim? Presumption you’re a liar.” Wendy Murphy, former sex crimes prosecutor, now an adjunct professor at the New England School of Law in Boston.

Huh. TIL. To clarify there does seem to be a gray area between drinking and blackout drunk and of course if someone is blackout drunk it's morally objectionable to accept their advances but I'm not sure it should be legally punishable. Not really a relevant thought to this thread but I'm just spit balling here.

As someone who thinks we should hold men and women to the same standards but that some of the standards set forth by radical feminists are in many ways bullshit I find it difficult to disagree with this comment. I'm going to anyways though. Black out drunk people are pretty much off limits when it comes to giving consent. It should be noted that the image is obviously making a gender reversal point and isn't meant to be taken seriously.

Institutions based on ideologies inherently develop internal inconsistencies and localized idealogical conflicts. Feminism has become institutionalized and suffers from these things as a result. The MRM isn't institutionalized enough (or at all really) yet to develop such inconsistencies. It's still got it's innocence and hasn't really had to rationalize compromised policies with it's own doctrine. Let's try to keep it that way (minus the lack of policy influence) Maybe I missed your point.

Ok I can agree with a declaration of intent so long as men have the same requirement if they want to claim the paternity leave for officers we agreed upon earlier. I think that's implied in your statement but I wanted to clarify. such as rotating you out of critical roles. I think those are reasonable concerns but look at all the investment in fertility clinics and reproductive health services. Getting pregnant is not the easiest thing in the world to plan. Given those two things reasonably informing officers in advance would probably sound something like "Yo, I'm gonna get knocked up sometime between today and the next presidential election. I'm not trying to be a dick with that question I'm just curious about where this information is coming from and why I haven't heard of it before. The problem ultimately goes back to the choice presented to each gender. Under that policy men can have a family and serve while women cannot. How can we be arguing for the equality of men in our society while supporting the policies that discriminate against women? Can we really expect to be taken seriously if we do? Should we be taken seriously if we do?

Ok I agree with you on the "can" assuming we're willing to take pretty drastic measures but I'm not so sure about the "should." Let's assume for a second that any woman found to be pregnant while serving is given the option of having an abortion or discharge. Perhaps you can think of a more humane way of enforcing such a policy but I can't. This means that women in the military are forced to choose between having a family and having a career in the military. Men in the military don't have to mak…

Hell yes. Good for her. I would like to comment that when she says same everything I hope she includes paternity leave in that statement. It makes no sense to pretend that women's tendency to pop out babies and drop out of service for a year or two at a time is not an issue when it comes to promotion and personnel investment. We can't force women to not have baby's, nor should we, but we can even the playing field when it comes to the advantages and disadvantages that presents.

Oh you're right. Thanks for pointing that out. It is a special case as this isn't a woman attacking some random guy, it's a woman attacking a police officer. People do that. Thanks. I was just looking for the reasoning. I would argue though that this is a special case as it was a cop. Cops are subject to violence due to the nature of their work regardless of gender. I would probably just casually ask if there is an opportunity to start a men only night and if so could you talk to the organizers of womens only night to ask for advice on getting funding. To be fair anyone who believes in genetic inheretance should be for the goals of eugenics but I've never heard of a means of obtaining those goals that didn't involve someone getting screwed (hehe). They always require a reduction of individual freedoms and choices. Can you describe a means of actively promoting specific qualities that doesn't play favorites? I doubt it because at it's core eugenics is defined by playing favorites.
/r/MensRights12/01/13 09:18 PM

There is no need to take away rights or decency. If we promote and favor what is good, we can have more of it. Even the most pussy footed version of eugenics (incentives/promotional eugenics) requires institutionally favoring one group over another without due process. That violates human decency and human rights. Also, what tetrahedroid said.

Given that the most influential detractors of tMRM tend to be feminists I'd say reaching out to them and successfully talking them out of their insular little world views is moderately more valuable than courting Joe Schmoe. not to artificially inflate their importance and power. What world do you live in where disagreeing with a feminist point is considered even slightly PC? Look at what happens when Warren Farrell tries to give a speach. I don't think I'm inflating their power artificially.

This guy might not be won over now but good points do tend to stick with people when presented clearly/fairly and he might eventually come around in a mon…

I suppose you weren't saying to be hateful, sorry about that, but you did suggest that being civil was a mistake. I simply disagree with that idea. Again though, my bad on putting words in your mouth.

But how many eighteen year old girls have that kind of character? Reason and justice are male values. Women are social, emotional creatures. Surround them with people saying the same thing, and many will crack. The typical female western college student is immersed in a tight network of angry feminists who are all too happy to use them as a means of imprisoning men. I imagine this is a pretty common situation. Most colleges are full of professional feminazi social justice warriors. Most colleges…

I'm with you on this one. Seems to me that biology is a bitch so we can't decide what women do with their bodies, ie squirt out a goopy one or not, but we should definitely have a choice in whether or not we are financially responsible either way. For example, I don't want kids so should my girlfriend, who knows that already, get pregnant I owe her one half of an abortion. I'm a nice guy so I'd pay for the whole thing anyways but if she chooses to keep it against my wishes that should be financi…

Wait are you saying that as satire or do you actually believe that one injustice justifies another?

Not to nit pick or anything, as this is reddit and we've all got our own notions about how to conduct ourselves, but isn't it best to be civil with everybody until punches start getting thrown? The guy already thinks MRA is a hate group, might not being hateful to him be counter-productive?

I'm for gender equality. I don't refer to myself as a feminist because one of the fundamental principles of the modern feminist movement is the belief that women can never oppress men in our society. This is a false and deleterious view. That's all. I don't really refer to myself as an MRA either as you're right there is quite a reactionary streak to this community but that doesn't mean much as I personally avoid "joining groups" by adopting their labels and every group, MRM or Feminism included…

Sounds like he could do with someone having his back. Contact him and do your best to stay out of any drama that ensues.

Not only is it an immature thing for her to do, that conversation goes on his record. It'll be discussed next time he's up for a promotion and he has no way to defend or justify himself.

This is going to sound like a stupid question but which well known feminists "advocate for eugenics, mass murder, elitist legislation, victim identity and the marginalization of men and boys?" I've read a few crazy's but which politicians and policy makes can be shown to do this? I am genuinely curious.

Um Islam is NOT the only religion that still kills witches. Look up christianity in Africa. Just as bad.

I'm currently engaged in a discussion about this subject and would REALLY appreciate a citation for those numbers.

It's not so much that I doubt them, they all seem highly plausible, I just wanted to extend my folder of interesting studies and these would all definitely qualify.

Any chance you have citations for those handy?
