So I just had this idea while I was fiddling with my mobilemouse app on my computer and reading all the horror stories on here about "My wife/girlfriend hit me/herself and threatened to/actually did call the cops claiming I beat her. I'm too broke to get a lawyer and it's her word against mine." I don't have anywhere near the amount of experience needed to bring it into being but maybe someone here does and will take an interest. What's reddit for if not brainstorming amiright? Anyways, I call it PanicRoom.
Essentially it would be an inconspicuous app for your smartphone/tablet which when opened immediately begins recording audio and video while going into a fake off mode. Off mode could be identical to your home screen or maybe look like your out of batteries screen. Maybe this is unnecessary and panicroom simply runs in the background recording everything until you open it again and enter a password. I don't know.
To make this even more effective there could be a separate program which runs in the background on a computer which automatically begins the same process when panicroom is opened on any smart phone on that wifi network.
That's the basic idea. I've got a couple others such as automatic upload to your cloud server of choice or false secondary passwords in case you get caught which duplicate all recorded files to a hidden location. It would be sweet if both the forward and backward facing cameras could run simultaneously but I don't know if thats possible on many smart phones.
Perhaps such a thing exists already in part or in whole. If it does everyone here should know about it. In any case I'd like to hear your thoughts/get the attention of potential volunteer programmers. Volunteer in this case meaning I hope you'd not be a dick and make it a free app but since you're doing all the work make money if you want to.
Obviously this is app is potentially useful for both men and women in these terrible situations but since it seems like in many places all it takes to get your boyfriend arrested (at least temporarily) for DV is a phone call it might be more useful to men. Either way no reason to make this gender specific.
This being reddit I'll beat all you "surveillance state"rs to the punch: probably not a sign of a healthy relationship to be downloading such an app in the first place but this is a crazy complicated world we live in.
TL;DR quick and easy app to begin recording audio and video on your smart phone/computer without anyone noticing. Can anyone make it/does it exist?
