No worries! I just wanted to make sure the correct response was there for anyone who might stumble on the thread, but I did read the rest of your responses and it definitely seemed like you understood

Okay, I'm not sure why OP said it's the same but it's not. Dismorphia means you actually see your body incorrectly, for example: someone might believe they're overweight but actually aren't and develop anorexia. Dysphoria is where you are aware of how your body looks but it feels as though it should be different. Dysphoria is seen as more deeply linked with the way your internal body is structured and isn't interacting correctly with your external structure, so changing your external body is cor…

The only thing I would disagree with is the part about radical feminism, but that is entirely dependent on how the person defines themselves as a radical feminist. Are they radical because they want to abolish gender roles or are they radical because they view men as the enemy? It can be a bit of a difficult term to work with because people often have different definitions for it.

That too, being rigid in their views about social dynamics is also a conservative attitude.

Yeah, like the previous mods did drop the ball, but he was also pretty aggressive towards them about it once all was said and done. He is a good content creator, but that does not mean he would be a good mod. I was sympathetic towards his actions until he threatened to have his instagram followers essentially harrass the mods. There were also some discord messages where he was being unreasonably aggressive. He wound up trying to throw his weight around as a popular creator to intimidate people a…

Exactly. It's not that men are turning to the republican party. They're just not turning out at all anymore.

The crazy part is it's not only men who feel this way. A lot of people in minority groups and women also feel this way, but it's so socially damaging to speak out against it. I can't figure out how so many people buy into the division. It's awful.

I don't think the part about keeping names private in a criminal trial is considered a right wing agenda. But it is most certainly not acknowledged as a serious problem. However, that could be a good one to start focusing on because it doesn't have as much inherent gender bias when people think about it.

You have an absolute well of courage to post an opinion like this with the current culture. It is like breathing clean air for the first time in years to see someone clearly explain this viewpoint. I have quite literally been raped in the sense of being forced while actively saying "no" and resisting, and I would not describe it as the worst thing I've been through. It sucked and it affected me for a few months, but I was able to move on. Yet I have been through other types of severe abuse that …

Your analysis of this is so on point. It's a shame your post didn't get more attention, but people aren't ready for this conversation. I've had these same ideas bouncing around in my head for a while, but you put it into words in a way I wouldn't be able to, so thank you for that. One day people will wake up. I hope.

I'll be honest, I read through all the comments and discord messages, and thetinman actually did not look very sympathetic. It seemed like he was throwing his weight around as a popular content creator and stirring up drama. Even if people aren't fans of certain mods, I actually don't think he should be a moderator either. He should still make his content, but I don't think people should ignore his actions just because they like his content

Yeah I really hope this place can establish itself as trans friendly because having trans people able to relate to the issues because of direct experience could add a lot of power to the arguments. When this sub was new I tried very hard to at least be a trans friendly voice, and while I don't really use reddit anymore it makes me so happy to see trans men appreciating the sub and people talking about the importance of trans people's viewpoints :') It's not abnormal for people to not get it, and…

It kind of sucks cause there's a lot of pressure as a trans women to say "yes! it is all horrible for women and not men!" even though I'm still dealing with the aftermath of things that happened pre-transition that related to presenting male and probably will be for the rest of my life because of how much of a negative impact it had. If you go into EXCLUSIVELY trans woman spaces with trans women who are sane and have been transitioning for a while, a lot of trans women actually also believe that…

What? There are more than two kinds of left wing. The sub shouldn't need to be that defined as long as it is generally accepting of people who are minorities and is into supporting everyone who needs it, socially, financially etc. Social programs and socialism related ideas are left wing but not inherently marxist.

Hey! This makes me really happy to hear! I haven't been active here in years and only pop in rarely nowadays, but I transitioned while I was still active in this sub, and you were always a really nice presence, so I'm just glad things are going in a way that's helping you feel fulfilled.

De la chapelle syndrome. Made me rather androgynous but low T so I could easily pass as male or female depending on which hormones I take. I went female. It's basically the equivalent of being physically non-binary but leans masculine and it's not uncommon for people with this condition to take hormones to appear more one way or the other. However there are plenty of cases where people have it and aren't even aware because their parts managed to develop mostly normal for a male and they aren't o…

They even do this if you're a woman or a minority. The worst is being a trans woman who tries to speak up for male issues because it's really 50/50 whether you'll get performative sympathy and then dismissal or subtle transphobia. "You grew up male so you can't ACTUALLY speak on this". Worst part is, I'm actually intersex and was only raised male because it was how my natural presentation leaned, but only just barely. But I'm still not considered in the "real" women's club. Or even the "real" me…

This creates the environment in which some men start to despise women because they feel they are walking on eggshells all the time around them becoming self fulfilling prophecy of those who were calling them creeps and misogynist years before they became one. I wish I didn't read this so late, but your last paragraph is super important. When people feel that they can't win no matter what, they're gonna stop playing the game. And unfortunately that means that some men will assume that they should…

Someone got called an incel for saying that the guy was in the wrong, but the girl shouldn't have attacked because the guy might have retaliated. Yes even saying they should avoid violence for their own safety is apparently now enough to be called an incel. Sort by controversial. It's wild.

It's incredible because threatening or condoning violence is against sitewide rules. And not only are they condoning violence, but they are condoning highly disproportionate amounts of violence on a huge post and it's perfectly allowed. Reddit is "mysogynistic" my ass.

Now THIS is a good one. This is the conversation we should be having. These are the facts that made me start taking female on male domestic abuse seriously. It's great to see them laid out in this format.

In my own life I've made reparations or tried to fix things for selfish reasons only to develop genuine empathy and understanding. It is possible for the motives and understanding to change as people begin to do things in the right way.

My god I'm so glad there are people using their brains in this conversation. I was honestly scared going into this thread, but I'm so glad that there are so many people here who get how horrible it is to call all trans women predators because of one bad person. As if there aren't bad people in literally all groups.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates29/10/21 07:41 AM

Yeah, I'm trying not to be overy negative but for some reason it seems like reactionary TERFism and gender critical views are taking a strong hold on certain groups. I have theories as to why, but it's not really worth going into here. I can't deny that growing up in a male body has strongly influenced my views when it comes to activism and I just want a place where my views are at least accepted and I'm also somewhat safe from irrational hatred.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates29/10/21 07:18 AM

Yeah this is why I prefer places that are friendly to men, women, and transgender people. I'm just tired. So fucking tired of all the hate and useless bigotry and fighting over this and that.

It couldn't possibly be that trans-psychiatry is killing kids, for instance? Irrational my ass. Um yeah that IS quite irrational. And that comparison to the Second Gulf War makes zero sense. I think it might be worth your while to talk to some less extreme people on the subject.

Unfortunately, I personally am not as prepared as I should be for such an in depth conversation, but I don't want to just leave an honest inquiry hanging (although I can't guarantee follow-up after this response). I'm normally not big on activism so I haven't saved any of the studies on it, but I have seen studies and sources on the validity of there being differences between male and female brains and transgender brains matching that of their identified gender. Many of the theories on why there…

I realized I didn't properly read your response. I see why it fits into the gender critical theory. However, I would offer up the position that dysphoria and the resulting condition of transgender individuals is not solely based on the "social constructs" surrounding gender. That is simply a part of it. Many transgender people believe that it should be okay to be gender non-conforming. The important point is that being transgender is a deeply rooted misalignment between the body and brain. It's …

I agree that it's more common in TERF spaces and I suppose even by my definition of why a transgender person would say it isn't the same. I'm actually having a hard time focusing right now due to lack of sleep. So tbh I'm not quite sure where you're coming from with your views on it. I'm actually just kinda scared of this turning into a TERF/gender critical space especially after some of the stuff I saw on the Dave Chappelle thread. But I think I understand what you're saying about specifity, an…

I don't think that's inherently a TERF talking point though. Most trans women who have dysphoria don't want to be associated with that anatomy. Hence, the surgeries. Even if it's technically true pre-surgery, it's an unnecessary distinction to make imo. Some people say they're trans without dysphoria and that's where the rhetoric of "people with penises" and "people who menstruate come from". But that's a whole 'nother can of worms. I think it's too simplistic to say that TERFs own that talking …

Yeah I'm not convinced they understand what gender critical means. And if they do, then they're wrong about this sub being gender critical. There are people here who support the idea of truscum, which is the idea that dysphoria is necessary for being trans, however gender critical theories are the idea that because of people's assigned sexes at birth they can never truly be the gender they identify as no matter what. Which I disagree with, and you can see that people in r/truscum disagree as wel…

Lol I'm not even gonna respond to the person you're debating because I don't want to deal with his weak responses that address literally none of the points you're making, but I really do hate the discussion of my identity being called a political position. As if me being trans is a political statement and determines how worthy I am of being treated like a human. Tbh his argument is only furthering the idea that even the most "well intentioned" terfs really are just transphobic to the core.

I've been in this sub for a while and usually it is very understanding of trans experiences. I think you're right, and this specific thread hit on a blind spot where some people are more ignorant. I was pretty upset about it at first because I had grown to trust this place rather deeply. Hopefully some people were able to gain more perspective from the discussions here though.

I 100% believe that a lot of the reason some of those men do that "trauma dumping" is because they're desperate for someone to listen because no one listens. I'm pretty sure this whole "show your emotions more! But not to me!!" narrative is what causes a lot of this emotional dumping.

As a transgender woman, I don't think it's that trans women are actually hornier. My own experience, as well as that of my friends, is that the hormones do indeed significantly reduce sex drive. What I think you're seeing is that many trans women feel like they're allowed to be horny now because they're perceived as women and don't feel as creepy for having normal emotions. It's like eating a lot of cake because you were always forbidden as a kid. I personally was always a bit uncomfortable arou…

I'm trans and this is how it felt for me. For the record I'm having a pretty shitty time right now so I'm probably more sensitive than normal as well. It takes a level of ignorance to have that shock value and frankly I think his ignorance really shows when discussing transgender people. Just a lot of low blows about their appearances. No, that actually is not clear, and I think the crux of your hatred. You are assuming where it goes. No, I'm pointing out that your logic doesn't hold up even by your very gracious definitions of what terfs believe. I have seen heinous viewpoints from people who identify as a terf. I have yet to see an argument from someone who self identifies as a terf that isn't highly offensive, obviously bigoted, and incorrect on several levels. So my question is, why would you vehemently defend terfs using …

So trans women don't belong in feminism because you believe they're not women, and somehow this is better? If you believe that men are predators, which many feminists do, and you believe that trans women are men playing dress up, then you can see where this logic obviously goes. But it's a waste of time to try arguing with someone who doesn't believe in the premise of trans women being women, so idek why I'm trying.

This comment section is really fucking disappointing. I was under the impression that this was a trans friendly sub, but there are people defending terfs in this comment section and getting highly upvoted. Idk I've been here for a long time, but if we're seriously going to start lauding people for comparing trans women to black face and say that terfs are friendly and reasonable then I'm getting the fuck out of here.

Except their whole belief is that trans people don't exist because trans women are men in dresses and trans men are delusional gender traitors. This isn't some random subset either. That's literally the whole point of the name. They don't believe trans people belong in feminism because they think that trans people are predators and delusional. I hope we are not seriously defending terfs here. Because they are very VERY openly transphobic.

What really floored me was this comment in regards to the AMA at menslib First of all, I'm in no way defending what was said in the AMA. That being said, I think that just like feminism discusses women doing bad things (internal misogyny, patriarchal women etc) that should be the mission for mens lib as well. There's no reason you can't have a group supportive of men while still being critical of men who do bad things. It just says so much about where their heads are. The only "bad things" women…

They're confusing the biological fact that women tend to lean more towards an enjoyment of people with actual skill and knowledge. Just because someone likes something doesn't mean they're good at it. To add on, there are plenty of men who also enjoy their relationships and interactions with others. And even in studies where more women had higher emotional intelligence, it only means some were on the higher end. It doesn't mean ALL women are better at it. That's not how statistics work. I think this stems more from social issues than biology. Especially the way we treat social roles. When your life is filled with chaos, you want stability (which is the case for many men), but when you have all the time in the world and have financial support from others, you want adventure and invigoration (the case for many women). Sadly my phone is dying but I'll try to expand later if I remember.

No, it's because most of us are left wing, and didn't know there were better options out there. Yes many of us started on menslib, but it's because we were just trying to make it work with what we had. A lot of people come here with the realization that they don't have to grovel at feminisms feet to be good men but still have leftist views socially and economically. Says "I'm not misandrist"; proceeds to be misandrist and say men don't have real problems because some guys threw nasty insults anonymously online. Which also happens to men at even greater amounts. Unfortunately I don't have a link to the study for that one. "Does misandry even exist? How about we #killallmen, and when they complain just call them fragile and drink those male tears. Feminism and left wing are not synonyms. That is our issue. Feminism has a lot of ideological issues and prominent voices that are not compatible with our desire for equality. We are pro women's rights and pro men's rights here, but many people find their home here because they often see feminism as standing in the way of true equality due to its ideological nature. This is an extremely rare, outwardly left wing discussions space that also allows for criticism of feminism. We want to show that y…

I came here just because I saw an atrocious thread about some teenagers who were carrying a girl across a street because she had a chronic fainting condition and the OP mentioned that she panicked when she came to, and the top upvoted responses were saying she was afraid she would get raped... in the middle of the day, in the middle of the street, by people she knew, while knowing she has a chronic condition. Obviously she panicked because it's scary waking up to being carried. ANYONE would be a…

Well, what you're supposed to do is go to archive.is and all you have to do is enter the link, but when I went to test it, it turned out there was already an archive for it https://archive.is/1cDyf But I don't think it requires paid access to get a full article archived. So there's the archive link for ya!

Yeah you don't really notice it until you get invested in the sub. It honestly took me by suprise at first. I used to be really into that sub back before the ban wave, and so maybe I'm just more sensitive to it, but it's like anything in that sub. It all comes out when the right subject comes up. Because many terfs are radical left wing economically, you would look at the sub and have no idea in normal threads, but the second a trans thread comes up suddenly you start seeing the "all trans women…

I'm gonna be honest, I have one MAJOR issue with that sub, and it is the enormous terf population. I'm not just saying that to be pedantic about issues, I mean there are literally tons of users who migrated there after the terf sub bans and many who openly call themselves terfs. And now they go on that sub (in fact there was just a post 16 hours ago that makes the argument) and say that trans issues are purely identity politics and bad because gender is 100% chromosomes and that "men shouldn't b…

I 100% believe you are correct in some situations, because I remember as a kid and even into my very early 20s I was allowed to be emotional (I always had a very feminine and young appearance, and was a little immature) but as I started to physically mature and look more masculine things changed, and I started dealing with the negative stereotypes and was not allowed to be emotional anymore, and suddenly I noticed I felt very bitter and looked down on women being allowed to be emotional because …

Or, on your first point, sometimes they're just genuinely attracted to someone who may not be as conventionally attractive. I know I myself have been physically attracted to men and women who are really not all that attractive to the greater population.

I assume the same as men's rights which is the idea that things aren't quite fair on either side whether due to nature or nurture and we need to fix things as well as we can for everyone, except focusing on women's problems the same way we focus on men's.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates04/09/21 09:36 PM
5

Why is it not something that myself or multiple others like me ever found anywhere else? Well, just like u/BloomingBrains said, they have accurately described many of the problems, so you're not gonna find that in many other places. However, their solutions and full out blaming of all women is toxic and often times simply recycled toxic dating stereotypes.

Exactly. This is what I was thinking. A site where it's all available, but the main page organizes it and looks pleasant to read. I'm pretty sure someone has to manually curate it. But tags should be possible for something like that.

Actually most deeply entrenched feminists will just say it was internalized misogyny. It's their catch all for when women don't agree with them or their past.

I think that's why though. Not all women are aware. In fact, probably only really shitty manipulative women are truly aware. Many women might sort of know they have some sort of power, but vastly underestimate it and don't realize the impact it has on normal, well-meaning men.

There are far more men who don't abuse their partners and when all they see on men's "support" subs is that we need to end violence perpetrated by males, it reinforces the idea that they don't deserve help, only scorn.

There are most definitely plenty of MRA groups with viciously hateful rhetoric about women, frankly if you don't see it you're not looking. Oh we see it. That's why this group was made. The whole mission statement for the sub is basically that we want to allow criticism of feminism without hating women or being inundated with alt-right views. I went to therapy, constantly read and studied, and did everything I could to live a positive life. You're right, it's absolutely true. It's easier to get bigger, and harder to get smaller. Especially on the face because trans men almost always grow facial hair and no matter how feminine your face is, it's read male, but trans women often need surgery to deal with large jaws and sloped foreheads. There's definitely some misinformation floating around this thread. I think this is a better response than the one Onecfa2 linked.

Absolutely, a bad diagnosis can be problematic. I'm not fond of the "everyone who says they're trans is trans" culture you see sometimes. I think we need better resources for exploring this. The hardest part of transitioning is the social aspect. It's partially why the hyper-acceptance crowd came to be.

There's a discussion to be had on properly diagnosing trans kids, but this is NOT it. This seems more like a deflection because this person feels persecuted and thinks they are the best judge of what their child feels. Gives me major control issue vibes. It's also highly misinformed. I think the main point is that we need to weed out the damaging, unnecessary instinctual traits as best we can. That's how I view it anyway. It's ok to have preferences and to enjoy certain aspects of biological desires, but when it starts getting primitive, and people start espousing toxic double standards is when we need to take a step back and use logic to keep our relationships and society healthy. Particularly when it comes to devaluing others for the sake of lust.

I think the real issue is suppression of emotions. It's important to be able to express the full spectrum or you become dull and it can interfere with happiness and general social function. The more "feminist" side of things seems to just go full force on specifically crying, which, isn't all that helpful when it's the only aspect you focus on.

I think it's just cause there's a lot of disconnected information. Even though we can gather what you were saying through context clues, it can be really helpful to tell long events a bit more like a story. Such as explaining where the interaction was, and giving more context. Also, while it's good to explain logical fallacies it's probably better to wait until someone asks what it means before explaining it. It added a lot of information that made it harder to read. It can also be helpful to be…

Basically, it seems to me that the view of promiscuous women being "damaged" is mostly derived from social dynamics, which is a logical conclusion (even if incorrect in many cases, or far too generalized). The issue to me is that many women (particularly feminists) want to say that it's illogical and solely toxic masculinity. If we want to solve these difficult dynamics, we need to honestly acknowledge them. And that doesn't seem to be happening.

I think this is the part that stands out to me and bothers me most. So many women miss out on great opportunities because they don't want to accept responsibility.

I think this is good advice after you've had a chance to express yourself. I think these people need a chance to get their feelings out somewhere because they've been shot down all their lives. And then they can start being proactive. It's all about balance. If you don't let your mind be free to feel what it needs to feel, you'll never be whole.

I'm not assuming what their motivation is. It's just a natural conclusion that if someone knows they can do something, then they're more likely to do it. And sure we don't technically have issues with overpopulation, but prevention is the best cure and the world population is growing at an insane rate.

/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates23/10/20 02:17 PM

This is exactly it and I've had a hard time finding a way to say it out loud. So many children are brought into this world because women know they've got free support, but if the man makes it clear he's not going to pay then we might actually reduce overpopulation because it won't be so easy to just bring a child into the world. It's really a win-win.

Maybe I need to go more in depth but from a light overlook, this seems way too generalized. I kind of thought we were trying to fight against the idea that men have to be doers to be valid and respected.

Yeah but there are plenty of trans people who believe you should go to therapy first, make sure to work on preexisting psychological conditions, and then get a diagnosis for gender dysphoria. Your first point is kind of irrelevant, and non applicable because those are very different problems.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates11/10/20 01:11 PM
1

Wow, finally someone who actually explained it properly, and pretty well. Edit: Saying you can't identify as a different gender because your body isn't that gender is as illogical as saying you can't like ice cream shaped like a hamburger because it's not a hamburger. It still tastes like ice cream even though it's shaped different.

It's because they're not upholding left-wing values. They're just calling themselves leftists. This is how you get political parties that seemingly change values every couple of decades. The Republicans and Democrats you see now are nowhere near the same as they were 100 years ago. They're just titles. It really means nothing to some of these people.

Yeah, my philosophy on this is that no matter how smart you are, there are always enough dumb people that you have to play games for society to function. At our core, everyone has nonsensical and contradictory emotions. It's just how evolution happened. And unfortunately there aren't enough intelligent, aware people to break out of this as a society.

I think people at r/truscum can be a little angry towards certain other trans spaces, but you might find the answers you're looking for there because, as far as I know, they have a solid understanding of why the science behind it is accepted, and the details. I've been reading along, and I agree with what you're saying. It seems people are defensive here because it's a particularly sensitive subject. I suppose it's understandable considering that regardless of a mischaracterization, most people here do actually understand that it's not peaches and cream for women, and saying it accurately doesn't really make a difference in the overall issue. Personally, I interpret “sexualizing” as being preyed upon. However I understand the need for a word to describe men being treated inappropriately as sexual beings, and there really aren’t any other words, so I feel like any argument about what word is being used is useless semantics.

It’s a good video, but duude I heard discord in the background of your video and thought I was getting a bunch of messages lol edit: Okay, so I wrote this before finishing the video, and I just want to say that after finishing it, I’m really glad you brought this up, especially in the context of women being able to claim abuse as an excuse for murder.

One thing that always sticks out to me when they say “women don’t owe you shit” when it comes to emotions, is that they DO expect men to give them gentleness and empathy, while still being strong and resilient.

That’s a really good point. If it’s all about power, then the second you take it away through laws or preferential treatment... they don’t have power anymore and it becomes discrimination 🤔 which is exactly what they’re trying to defend with that argument

I didn’t like how he kept bring up bad statistics on the numbers of female on male rape vs the reverse. Like, it’s good that he’s talking about it and I don’t want to diss the video as a whole, but he definitely seems to buy into the statistics that were based on laws basically saying men can’t be raped.

I think they’re trying to say that one of the big points feminists try to make is that they are, and were, disadvantaged financially, but that doesn’t seem to be the case. And, in fact, feminists are the reason that women have the same financial opportunities as men that they so despise nowadays

apparently it’s a problem that a lot of the comments talking about toxic masculinity and about men shooting themselves in the foot were controversial Gonna be honest, I don’t think r/menslib actually has men’s best interests in mind

Oh I don’t think anyone should pay, I’m just refuting their apparent logic. When feminists are brought up they say “oh well you can’t blame them for what feminists thought way back in the day”, but they still talk about the “patriarchy” and “toxic masculinity” and men being oppressors.

This was already addressed in the OP For the record, I am not making some ridiculous argument that women (and men) don't have the right to reject advances from "creepy" people, or that "creepy" people are entitled to another person's time, attention, validation, love etc. However, I am talking about the way in which provoking a sentiment of creeped-out-ness in another person is nowadays described through a moral lense, where the person doing the creeping-out (apparently, mostly by just existing …

I don’t even think women actually get it. I’ve always been pretty good at it, but as a trans woman, I have realized that being able to read between the lines is simply a trait some humans have and has nothing to do with gender. Sure women might be more inclined to be concerned with other women’s problems, but saying that the problem is that men can’t read between the lines is blatant prejudice.

A lot of times people who have lived their life feeling exceptionally satisfied for reasons they had no control over have a tendency to be condescending and have little compassion towards people who aren’t as satisfied. That being said, the opposite also happens where some people’s lives feel so out of control that they’re in denial of the problems and hearing complaints breaks their fragile fantasy world.

/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates22/08/19 11:55 PM

What bothers me about it all is that the reason for discrimination against men is cited as biological, but the reasons for not solving that discrimination are stated as social. If courts believe that men should be arrested because they’re naturally more violent, but the proposed solution is telling men that they need to stop being violent because they’re socially trained to be violent, then the only thing that will happen is men becoming more and more timid while receiving the same punishments.

I think my issue with it is that a lot of feminist try to simultaneously say gender roles are a construct and then also say that the problems society has can be categorized by gender. If gender truly is a construct, then it should be the ultimate argument for individual accountability. Obviously that’s not the case. There is a biological element to gender. To put it in the way I understand it, r/mensrights is known as the all-around sub that is supposed to be about supporting and advocating for men’s rights. r/menslib claims to do the same thing, but it is also sympathetic to and supports feminism, which in turn seems to make it insufficient for supporting men because of the unbalanced nature of feminism. Specifically, poorer and lower status, who see these upper middle class women having an advantage due to “feminism” and want a part in it. The main thing I remember was she humiliated him in front of a crowd by pulling down his pants to show off his penis. But everyone in the comments is saying he’s obsessed with her or he just wants money or more fame, when he explicitly states that he’s coming out about it right now because she’s irrelevant and he doesn’t want to make a huge deal about it.

Well I think most of the time people complain about it because “equality” often seems to be at the convenience of women. It took me so long to accept how toxic that mentality is. The idea that a man’s emotions are less important than a woman’s regardless of the facts is literally the equivalent of oppression. That’s how royalty behaves.

I think the point though, is that feeling emotions is an important part of getting through. Shaming suppresses, empathy empowers. There’s no reason we couldn’t empathize, as well as give them a leading hand in being self reliant.

Like calling guys avoiding eye contact “respect” and mentioning the patriarchy towards the end are two I can think of off the top of my head. They weren’t particularly egregious errors or anything, but soon after the “respect” comment, she was talking about how it would incite violence which indicates fear and compliance to status quos, not respect. You can see that she’s struggling between feminist ideas and her lived experience.
/r/MensRights27/07/19 04:10 AM
25

Wow that was a much more insightful article about her experience than the documentary. I see what you mean about how she kept trying to revert to feminist ways of thinking. I thought it was a great idea when I saw this subreddit. It seems niche because of how interwoven feminism and left-wing politics are, but I think that’s exactly why we need a space like this. Left-wing and feminism are not synonymous and this is the first time I’ve seen it publicly acknowledged as a viewpoint. Starting the discussion is half the battle.

I think the problem people are having is that if the roles were reversed, no one would have a problem calling the guy a rapist. I think we need to stop demonizing men in that way, not start demonizing women.
/r/MensRights22/07/19 12:08 AM
3

To me that says the problem is rape hysteria towards men, not that we also need to assume women are rapists.

No... you’re not supposed to take it seriously because it’s a parody account.
/r/MensRights20/07/19 04:48 PM

That’s a good point. I’ve always believed that the problem is expectations. If women always expect men to do the work, then they’re never going to be happy. Men want to get off and if the woman wanted to get off then it would be a lot easier for women. No one wants to do something that another person is making them do. It’s basic psychology.

I think the word you’re looking for is emotionally manipulative. It’s super shitty of him, but I don’t think it’s unreasonable for people to be upset about her calling it assault. Also, it doesn’t help that men are conditioned to not cause a scene. Even if you’re a man, scream, shout! Yell “She’s taking my baby!!” Unless every bystander is absolutely psychotic, they will realize that you must be serious, especially as a man making that kind of scene. You can still wait for the police, and there might be suspicion but you will be far less likely to be tackled and blamed if you’re the first one to make it a vocalized problem.
/r/MensRights30/06/19 09:16 AM

Finally someone who got it right. It’s not just some inherent thrill of their “bad” nature. It’s that the women feel superior. They feel like they’re the ones in control and they’re the ones who deserve to be praised while still having fun.

I just figured that part could fit under the genetic fallacy. I don’t even know if there’s a fallacy for believing that men currently are reacting based on previous men’s lives as if we are a singularity. It’s just straight up bonkers. I’ll name it “The Singularity Fallacy”. Edit: I guess, to be more specific, it seems like it stems from the fallacy that men have deeply ingrained shared traits, which is the genetic fallacy. Assuming that it would mean that young men expect the same treatment bec…

Ah yes, because being upset can indicate a loss of power, a 12 y/o must also be acting out that loss of power. Existential fallacy. Thank you for noticing that.

Something just clicked in my brain after reading this. I’ve noticed that most people here have known awful experiences with marriage, and I’m starting to think that because marriage is being viewed as a bit of an outdated practice, now the only women who really want to secure a man are the ones who know they’re not good enough for natural commitment. So that’s why when focusing on married couples it always seems like a hell hole. Just an observation.
/r/MGTOW25/06/19 08:07 AM

The point is really simple dude. Traditional courtship is not accepted, but men are still expected to make the first move. Men can’t magically know what a woman is thinking, so unless they don’t want to ask anyone out they’re gonna make mistakes. If women want this dynamic to change then they are also going to have to be proactive. That’s it.
/r/MensRights19/06/19 08:40 PM

Y’know, I think that’s really why I resonate with your post. I got close to that as well, and while I’m glad I didn’t go off the deep end or anything, it is a legitimate struggle and makes me sad to see how much people resent guys in that position. I think it’s a cause deserving empathy and support instead of scorn because most guys in that position are in pain, and are not trying to be toxic. Many of them would probably thrive in better circumstances.

/r/MensRights19/06/19 01:07 AM

So apex and strawman. Not to mention they’re assuming that because men are in charge, it is the cause of their suffering, so false cause and composition fallacy. And of course the idea that it’s inherently a problem with men there’s the genetic fallacy, black and white thinking, and an inductive fallacy. We’re hitting fallacy levels that shouldn’t even be possible

I find this note to be extremely important. The women who aren’t like that are hard to find because they often avoid those places, and won’t go out of their way because of money or a handsome face. They do their own thing. It’s exactly the same as the “all guys are jerks” phenomenon. Only the shameless narcissists will go out of their way to get what they want, so you only know about the shameless narcissists.

You’re right. The original definition and intent was for equal opportunities. Unfortunately, throughout feminism’s history, many groups have had a different views on what that means, and how to achieve equality, and after equality of opportunity was reached, more insidious branches have taken over. Feminism is not a fact of life, or a steadfast concept. It is an ideology that can be molded and changed. Anyone who sees it as all good or all evil is not thinking critically.
/r/MensRights10/06/19 03:34 AM

Y’know what’s interesting? I had the opposite experience. I used to feel like I had to be extra masculine and prove that I was one of the “good” guys, and then eventually I figured out I actually wanted to be feminine and I just hated the toxic women in my life and didn’t want to emulate them, so I suppressed my own femininity. /r/MensRights30/03/19 12:05 PM

But we’re literally arguing that men SHOULD have protections. Women have all these options and the idea that men should not have these same options is based on the outdated idea of men making all the money. Women have 100% protection from having to deal with parenthood, so men should too. A large majority of women follow through with child birth BECAUSE men are held responsible no matter what. If men had a choice we might not get so many children growing up in broken homes because the women woul…

First of all, that’s a terrible argument. You’re saying that because 20% get arrested that there isn’t a bias? What percentage officially defines “bias”? Secondly, for an evidence-less crime, that’s a pretty high percentage. Do you really think that every single person accused is a rapist? They have to use discretion otherwise we would truly live in a dystopia where all you have to do is say the word and someone gets arrested. Also, comparing incarceration rates of an evidence-less crime to othe…

What an incredible way of explaining it Edit: not to be pedantic, just expressing my understanding (and I know describing it as a mental illness is the most helpful for people who are just learning to wrap their head around it), but it is simply classified as a medical condition now and not a mental illness, for what it’s worth.

Just to add something on to this whole discussion that I’ve always felt is really important to remember, is that evolution is possible. Humans are complex creatures and there is no reason to say that we can’t change and learn and grow. Regardless of what that looks like or how fast it happens, our brains are so complex that we could be experiencing types of evolution that have not been previously observed. We’re already an intellectual anomaly, and we don’t know the extent of our capacity to cha…

Oh, yeah I can see why it comes across that way, I just knew the conversation was devolving far too fast to have any reasonable discussion. It’s better to step out. Interjecting was a long shot since the discussion was already heated anyway.

They were using his quote on evolution to discredit his logic. As if he has nothing of worth that ever comes out of his mouth because he said a stupid thing. It’s like half relieving that it’s finally becoming unacceptable behavior, but also horrifying at how commonplace it has been. I’ve always felt so scared to voice my opinion, but it honestly makes me so angry that manipulative behavior is considered the norm for women. It makes me equally angry when people support abusive men, but it’s also not publicly accepted the way female on male abuse is, and that’s the problem.

This right here ^ You don’t see the truly compassionate women being talked about because they’re happily living their lives. There just happens to also be a lot of retarded, sociopathic men and women out there that draw a lot of attention. I’m glad they’re getting called out though. How is it? Feminism, by definition, is the advocacy of women’s rights on the grounds of equality to men. The name itself is FEMinism. It’s literally saying that it supports giving women rights, and not men. I’m not saying that makes it bad or that people in the movement can’t support equality, but by definition it’s not trying to support all human rights. That’s just a fact.

This is basically the exact reason I will never be able to support feminists. I’m a pretty liberal type of person at heart, but there are some deep problems that are absolutely not being addressed and feminism is often making it worse. I know that the men’s rights movement doesn’t want to go against feminism, and wants to try to meet in the middle, and I respect that. However, I don’t think I’ll ever be able to support feminism unless it gets a major overhaul on its stances.
