I was thinking about this, and it's interesting that she used alleged hypocrisy on the "other side" as an excuse for her own hypocrisy. This is true. I should have added that I don’t necessarily believe that women are attracted to selfish men. What I am more interested in is whether altruism has an effect in and of itself. In my experience, confidence is what matters - not so much kindness or compassion.

The thing which frustrates me the most here isn’t Kimmels arguments. They’re bad, but at least they try. What bothers me is something that I wish MRAs would push harder on, which is the sheer selective rigor fallacy here. Stuff like this is why I’m very distrustful of the “prestigious” universities. Crazy people are everywhere, but if a college cannot at least give their classes (which, in Harvard’s case, I believe are smaller?) basic ethics and critical thinking skills, then they just start to look like training camps for the upper class. Thank you for the compliments. I’ve heard of those books, but was always hesitant because of their “type” of therapy. That is, the very sugary sweet “you’re perfect and loveable” kind. This may seem blunt, but they’ve always kind of pissed me off because they seem very woman-oriented. Thanks for the advice. I'm glad to know that other people have had similar experiences, because the lack of information online has made me feel like this is a separate thing from depression in general.
