Potential bright side, can you get back with the kids now that she’s gone?

Take time, don’t settle, don’t accept disrespect (hostility is disrespect). There are good women out there, be the good man a good woman wants!

I’m at the end of my first post divorce gf. Haven’t ended it completely yet, but I realize that your post is the impetus for my resolution. She’s just not for me, not horrible, she’s actually quite nice, but not right for me. She’s getting past her long term marriage also and isn’t currently in therapy, has lost her progress of healing… and isn’t my match.

I cant accept that my shortcomings are all that needs to be examined. It is true that I need to participate in my marriage, do things to improve our unity, but if there is only one person doing that then it will end. I can romance, parent, improve myself, but if she still thinks that isn’t enough or sees ‘greener pastures’ then there is nothing that can be done. The difficulty i see is that women blame men even when men are not to blame. You indicate she betrayed you. She broke the family, and s…

Women don’t find this system ‘flawed’ and thus fight to keep it the same or to make it better for themselves. So men also self proclaim themselves as feminists and also empower women. It is one of the ironic times when equality of outcomes doesn’t need to hold up on a systematic level while simultaneously favoring one sex over the other. Feminism is not about equality, it is disguised mysandry. If feminism is the fight for women’s equality, what’s the word for men’s equality? And if you proclaim…

I’m amazed at the things posted in the divorce sub. It seems to be vitriol towards husbands, support for inappropriate behavior and gaslighting in several posts. I turned to this sub when looking for guidance, found mostly great support, guidance, and some anger and resentment of men in a situation they had little control over. It would be a significant loss of a connection for many and what should be a space for men in a bad situation to vent their frustration and disappointment.

Get the help now while still in the medical separation phase (20+ yr army retiree in the medical field). You will never have more attention from the medical and counseling services than right now. You can completely fall apart and it is OK, there is more for you now than you will ever have in the future, take this as an opportunity.

I put up with a lot during my marriage. I wasn’t perfect, but I put up with a lot. I’ve thought about what she would need to do for me to even consider having her back. She would have to admit she, in general, did and said things that were inappropriate, but she has said “I don’t ‘say things’ that I would need to apologize for…” which is inclusive of ‘…do things…’. She is not capable of admitting any fault. She would have to admit that she was not specific in her requests which she then used to …

Yeah. The couples therapist wanted to focus on same small issues, but the complete lack of recognition and acknowledgement of the larger issues. The issues selected did not represent the large issues, they focused on things she wanted to bring up. The blatant siding with my wife made me recognize there was noting to fight for.

Mine has Bipolar NOS (not otherwise specified) or Cyclothymia depending on which doctor she’s choosing to ignore. When she was medicated she was a bit better, but a couple of these events occurred even while medicated. She stopped meds about 10-12 years ago.

This sounds like a prenup (prenuptial agreement). It should be signed when sober and not at the last minute. I believe any competent family law attorney can help get this done for you. It is done all the time.

If you are fighting to keep this marriage, you will only get more upset. Fight for yourself and your kids. She can’t just kick you out of the house in most states. I wouldn’t leave until absolutely necessary and if she wants the separation, she can sleep outside the master bedroom. I wouldn’t build or buy right now, not until the assets are legally split. Get cameras in the house (record that she starts and maintains the fights, and that you don’t abuse the kids) Get legal advice and a therapist…

So I’ve been out of the dating scene for such a long time that i figured I’d just use it as some entertainment and growth. Met some really nice gals, am learning to negotiate with women again. Learning how and when to bring up certain topics. Gathering green and red flags, developing my own rules. I’m not in it for serious yet, but learning to have fun again outside her tyranny..it’s cathartic. If i meet someone prefect, that would be great. The gal I’m talking with now seems quite right

I had (what I thought were) pretty good relationships with my in laws. There was strain with my daughter. I now have a great relationship with my daughter, my daughter isn’t talking with STBXW, and the in laws are shunning me. The way I see it is she’s divorcing me, not me divorcing that part of the family. I would easily choose my daughter over my in laws if I were forced to choose. I don’t hold any of them responsible for the issues between my STBXW and me, and hope that they can accept that I…

Yeah, but I think my philosophical point is that with all of the abuse she handed out, I learned that fighting back provides no benefit. Fighting to be married to someone not interested in being married to me isn’t worth it. Don’t fight with the one you love (sign of love) and don’t fight for someone who doesn’t love you. I think this is/was an opportunity to explore my reasoning. It helped me write it out. I guess now I also ask for judgement and feedback.

I’m making her file. She’s the one that chose to leave, she can explain it to our family and friends. They know I’m clean like Captan American. She’s the one creating this issue. My attorneys have gotten me to an adequate settlement, she gets to file.

Have a million ideas about what to do to improve my self, I say them out loud to someone. If it sticks, I keep at it, if it doesn’t i have other ideas. Lately, if I’m feeling negative i do a few pushups/ sit-ups/ or other quick exercise. It helps focus me and brings me back to self improvement. I go to a comedy club Saturday evening with or without others. I have read about the microdosng of ketamine as an adjunct to therapy. From what i read, it is not something to do on your own or outside of a clinical environment. The VA has been using it in some experimental studies with success in treating PTSD and anxiety related disorders. I agree that it is better to accept things and move on. Have you had a discussion with him about the divorce? Even though you’re obviously on your sister’s side, maybe he has some point, concern or hope that needs to be addressed. I do wish my soon to be former in laws would have had discussions with me about my concerns (although she is the one who asked for/ demanded the divorce and is now delaying the process at every opportunity). My STBXW was not helpful in any of the struggles I brought to her, and in fact did much the same of turning my concerns into either ‘abuse towards her’ or ‘neglect towards her’ in the conversations. For instance, if I had troubles at work and wanted to discuss with her, it would turn to “why are you telling me this? Are you trying to fail, get yourself in trouble? Do you want to lose your job and wreck the family?” I believe this is similar but different in respects, but she reduced me to a payc…

Nothing in red pill/MGTOW/manosphere says to be disingenuous, rude, nasty, or anything negative towards other. It prepares you to deal with the self centered view of others. The only thing that I disagree with from the OP is “My girl will never have to break a sweat for anything.” That vibes of simping behavior. I’m still paying everything I can from joint accounts. She decided long ago our incomes would go into individual accounts so previously agreed upon accounts are still payed from joint accounts (especially power, gas, TV subscriptions, internet, groceries, clothing and other stuff that won’t be divided in settlement). It is easier to split $500 than $68k. Everything that is divisible (home and cars) comes from my individual accounts, it will bolster arguments she wasn’t contributing to those expe…

I’m in a similar boat. She called it quits after 26 years (we since passed 27) in April, moved out in July to a rental with approximately half the space costing just as much as our mortgage. Our incomes are approximately the same to each other except that I can get time and a half OT and she cannot get any OT. I also draw military retirement pension and VA benefits. This is good. I’m glad you’re ‘winning’ in this go round. I hope to join you in the winning circle soon…. I’m in the process after 27 year marriage where sex became a chore for her. Where no matter how well I did something it wasn’t good enough so I stopped doing shit. If there is something in a partnership that is not being met, the common thing is to find someone to do that service. Examples; I can’t build a house, I hire a team to do that. Lawn needs mowing, not uncommon to have a lawn service. Clean house, there’s a cleaning service. Restaurants. Taxi service. Grocery delivery. Many more. What can’t be replaced are the basic obligations like earning income or having money. The other is the physical and emotional connection between spouses. If one cuts off …

She wants a pay check and a stable place to call home. He is fulfilling his part of the contract and wants her part met. The biggest misfortune is if they split she is likely to still get a significant part of his portion of the contract (and she’s likely the one stepping out of the marriage).

I thought i could provide for the family, spend time with the kids, do the things around the house, and care for my wife. Turns out no matter how much i provided, it took me away from the house too much. If something went awry in doing something around the house and i adjusted, i never adjusted how she wanted. Brother, i feel like it is more than just communication issues, but i have had the same difficulties described in this thread. Wife said “step up” in caring for my adult daughter but would not define stepping up. If i cleaned the kitchen, she would yell at the end as if I had done nothing. This feels like the vibe of a guy who bangs other guys wife’s and basically says ‘ don’t be mad at me, she’s the one cheating!’ This does bring up another good question, in cheating, who do you get upset with?

It is like sitting in a restaurant, a pregnant woman comes in with the baby’s daddy. Is it you she’s sitting next to? Then care. Is it a stranger? Then it is his responsibility to care, you are not involved. I wouldn’t call it not giving a fuck, but giving a fuck about what realistically matters. Your wife isn’t what you thought, she is someone else’s to give a fuck about, a stranger in the restaurant that you need to disentangle from properly.

One of the common threads or trends I’m concerned about is this alpha/beta/sigma trope that seems to be promulgated here. Each guy is going to be their own style and they need to live in that style. Dude, I got it. I was checking in to make certain my thoughts and actions were off base. I knew at the moment she said it that the counseling was done. That is why I was “stuck” on not giving up the autonomy on the security cameras. I also directly confronted the counselor about the bias. I have decided that if she changed significantly, I would consider taking her back. This leads to 3 questions; What changes would I need to see? Would she be willing to change? And, could she change those things? Answers; A long list of items. She is not wrong in her mind therefore has no reason to change. And, I don’t think she could change enough even if she wanted to…. So, its done, she’s out, I’m out. I’ll be better once she’s gone.
/r/Divorce_Men14/07/23 02:20 AM

Interestingly, I called out the counselor for the bias on a one on one session. Denial was strong… ‘I was trying to find something the two of you could improve on…’. Wouldn’t address the issues I raised that were more significant in trust and respect. I called it disgustingly biased to the counselor’s face and suggested that i might complain to the state board for LCSWs. Needless to say, after that, I would not be welcome back to work with that counselor.

You have three distinct states with different rules, she know that… Choose the state that has the rules most favorable to you and fight for that state. I do recall a friend who’s spouse cheated in NC and they went after the AP who later married the former spouse for alienation of some sort in civil court. If you can choose a state, choose wisely. Im torn on up or down voting this comment! Marriage is a contract between you and your spouse that the government plays referee in if there is no prenup. If there is a prenup, you define the rules contractually between you and your spouse on several key factors including items in the relationship and how things are divided if the relationship ends. This can drastically save you if there are disparities or concerns. The government still has a say in the end but you can preserve your well being. I…

Hitting a net zero on entertainment is foolish. Build your wealth with a portion but enjoy life. Life is a long endeavor and if you have raising prospects than build on that. If you need a prenup (which if there is disparity of prospect) and she wont sign, it is a premonition that you will lose more than you want to. DON’T marry WITHOUT what you believe is the right circumstances.

I stopped chasing her demands long ago. That is what caused the end. Quick example; the kitchen needs cleaning after dinner. If I do nothing I get yelled at. If I do everything reasonable, she points out that I didn’t clean the sink trap, do that and I didn’t wipe a counter, or missed a spot, do all that I didn’t sweep the floor…. Always another thing that I didn’t do and I get yelled at. So put in zero effort gets the same as result as doing 100-150% of what I understand as the objective. I can…

At this point I don’t think that is true, but it is possible and would not actually change anything except that I would file to keep my pension and more of my stuff.

She wants a divorce and we are 3 months in and she hasn’t filed. I think she is regretting her choice and is getting poor advice. It is all silly. I want it to be over.

I have been doing this. I have been working on the relationship with my son and daughter. My daughter has indicated that she is tired of the crazy, the gaslighting, the arguments, and mood swings. Daughter wants to live with me as she finishes school. I have spoken with several of people in my support system about what it would take for my wife to come back. It couldn’t happen because it would take a complete revamp of her personality and being… starting with a complete apology. She is not able t…

We did therapy several times in the past and usually she quits when they point out that she’s not perfect. After telling me we need to separate she barely wanted to try therapy again, this time the therapist apparently took her side as she became overwhelmingly emotional over irrelevant issues. The therapist fussed at me that I was stuck because I would not give into my wife’s demands. On our next meeting as an individual session, I filled the therapist in on several of the other issues that she…

It depends. I just asked my lawyer a similar question. If deposited into a joint account yes. If into an IRA, doesn’t matter they are leveled and split. If it is a larger tangible asset (house, business, farm, or other large asset) it depends on a few factors like was it titled jointly, did you both pay taxes or other maintenance on the asset; i didn’t have those assets so i didn’t explore further…. CYA (consult your attorney) if you need more.

So you know the importance of having a lawyer representing you and should agree that lawyers are expensive because they are worth it. Don’t be a fool client.

Often innocent reactions to innocent action cause division… wife plans, something goes awry, she gets up set. I try suggesting alternatives, she thinks I’m criticizing and she ‘just needs time to think’. I stop offering help, she thinks I’m criticizing everything so she stops planning. It devolves without anyone noticing or overt jerkiness.

Our actions are often reactions to the crap others are perpetrating. My STBXW acts a certain way, it causes a reaction in me, then her, then me and the spiral goes on. Every fight we’ve ever had ends when I decide not to fight and I initiate contact or intimacy again… I decided about a year and a half ago not to perpetuate that cycle anymore and there has been no physical intimacy between us since. While I’m not perfect, I’m not the problem and suggest that unless you are purposely being a jerk,…

My STBXW hates that I have cameras in the house and wants them removed. “No” She wants me to sleep in the other room. “No” I have never slept in another room when i have my bed in my house.
