I was going to try to make this neutral to get honest opinions, but the mental gymnastics are too hard to sugarcoat this pile of stuff. This is one of the last points we are not agreeing on in our meditation.

My daughter had a medical reason to drop out of college where we were utilizing my post 9-11 GI Bill benefits. Wife had insurance for this as a hint it might happen had been observed.. We received an insurance ‘refund’ or ‘tuition reimbursement’ of $14k. Wife wanted to give that money to our daughter as a gift. I wanted to utilize that money for future college tuition. Approximately 2 months before telling me she wanted a divorce, STBX purchased an I-bond for $10k (she saw the relative high interest rates and thought it was a good investment) in her and my adult daughters names (not certain how it is actually listed but it has both of their names on it).

STBX has openly criticized daughter of being financially irresponsible multiple times to her face. She has never told our daughter about this investment. And the money won’t be able to be accessed without penalty for at least 4 more years. My daughter has no way to access this money, and it is performing worse than many savings accounts currently (lending itself to being not a good investment currently imo, but I’m not here for investment advice).

Is this a gift? Looking for thoughts before I offer more of my opinion.
