Look, this is about having a happy and healthy relationship and I can promise you that if you have a quid pro quo relationship, it won't be happy or healthy. I can't do things for my husband in hopes that he then does things for me because I'm always going to be numbering my hopes and desires in my mind and noticing when he doesn't meet my expectations. I used to have a bad habit of thinking about what I hoped he'd get done during the day when I left for work, 'gosh, I hope he cleaned the kitche…

Exactly. When you use non-RP terms, many people agree with you, especially when they can see how happy you are. There is no reason to be so "outspoken".

It could be several things. First, it could be that your changes are intimidating to your friends and they are looking to pull you back in the fold. Second, it could be that you are doing what my newly vegan friends do- inundate my Facebook page with their new religion and intolerant that I don't share their views. My guess is that it's probably a little of both. You know they are progressive and you are shocked when they question your RedPill posts??? Like HappySnowGirl says, you baited them, d…

I did a quick google search, so obviously something you can also do as well, and there are some non-hormonal treatments that she could use including mild steroids and a medication called nafarelin, which is a nasal spray she takes throughout her cycle. I'm not a medical provider but I thought I'd mention it.

PMS usually starts a few days (2-3) before the period and should resolve the day she starts her period. PMS is due to the fluctuations of hormones which levels out once the period begins. Cramps typically start the day before or the first day of the period and stop a day or two into the period. They are usually the worst on the heaviest flow day and get better from there until her period is over. Cramps are typically caused by the cervix opening to let the blood out and by the contraction of the…

The pain could be because of all sorts of problems, such as endometeosis. Unfortunately that is hard to diagnosis without exploratory surgery. Some women have luck with perscription pain meds and muscle relaxants. Some women have less pain if they use pads instead of tampons. Heat is usually good- heating pads, hot baths, and those chemical reaction heating pads that you stick to her underwear. I am skeptical but a few of my friends swear by acupuncture. The pain is closest to really bad diarrhe…

Even women often think their sexual desire is a mystery. Truth is, most women are totally predictable. Cd 14, I am ready for anything- especially sex god stuff. Cd 20...meh. Like clockwork. Mother Nature is powerful. But I would take a glass of wine and a good bar of chocolate over midol any day. ;) but yes, I would melt if he "just happened" to pick up my favorite chocolate/treat that day, and yes, I would be very pliable in the bedroom after that.

This was wonderful and useful in many areas of life. Thank you for taking the time to write it all out. Boundaries make me feel safe in myself. I know he won't tolerate something so I am held to that higher standard. Being a crazy woman doesn't feel good even to the woman, boundaries help us stay calm because we know we can't go there so we just don't.

What a bunch of internet strangers have to say shouldn't have nearly the weight of what your husband says. If he makes a reasonable request (and meds and/or therapy when you have a significant mental illness is reasonable), you should at least give it a try.

From a woman's perspective, if I brought up a table of hot girls during really good sex, I probably want some sort of dirty talk. It turns me on when I see women want my husband.

I would add, "we can do whatever you want to do!" and "whatever makes you happy," or "as long as you are happy, I'm happy,".

I see my husband's schooling as a smart investment. To humble-brag, he said that he never cared about money or career before me and wanting a family with me, and our relationship inspired him to step up. He picked computer programming because he's good at it, it pays well, and he wants to support his family. swoon :) I don't feel any resentment about living extremely frugally and supporting us. He has gotten straight As in school, and is graduating this summer after only being in school for 2.5 …

My husband and I are a mixed bag. I had about $15k of student loan debt with a masters degree that I do use and need, but a credit score over 800, and financial knowledge given to me by very savvy parents. Husband had no student loan debt but no degree, 300-ish credit score, and zero financial knowledge that was also a gift from his parents. He is graduating this summer with $40K in student loan debt but in a marketable degree and he will start with a higher salary than I have after 8 years of e…

I had terrible troubles with hormonal birth control. It killed my libido but as soon as I got off of it, my body roared back to life. There is nothing like ovulation week, it feels so good and so sexy. If her libido is down even after stopping the hormonal birth control, it probably wasn't the birth control.

In about 6 months I will probably be in the same situation you are, Baker. My entire relationship/marriage I have made more money but he is graduating this summer in a field that he will start at a higher pay grad than I have now. I'm nervous about how I will react to this very good thing. I fight being vulnerable already and I'm going have a hard time 'losing value' even though this has been the plan all along.

I think as soon as you realized that you overreacted you need to apologize. Try to do it immediately and not wait until later in the day because the sooner you can pair being sorry and admitting your mistake, the easier it will be to have that thought before you say the bitchy thing. Getting into an anxiety/guilt cycle isn't helping anyone. I think you sound anxious, not mean. Anxiety and controlling often go together because in your head getting the right toothpaste is VERY IMPORTANT and if you…

If my husband is clearly and totally wrong on something, I'll tell him. For example, if we are at the store and we like Crest toothpaste, and he grabs Colgate toothpaste, I'll let him know that we like and use Crest. "Hey love, did you mean to grab Colgate instead of Crest?" and leave it there. If he wants to go back and get Crest he will or if he doesn't, he won't. This is a really small and silly example but I don't think just allowing a man to be wrong simply because he is a man is fair to an…

The one thing we aren't allowed to do with anyone but our romantic partner is have sex. We can see movies or have dinner with friends, we can have platonic roommates, we can pay for massages, but we can only have sex with a SO. Think long and hard before tying your life to someone you don't want to have sex with because that means you never get to have satisfying sex ever. He has great qualities, that is lovely, and sometimes a woman can fall in love with and be sexually attracted to someone she…

I've never talked Husband out of a sport or hobby but I can imagine having that urge if it were a particularly dangerous one. It would be a real struggle to me to know Husband's life/health was in danger. A friend of mine, her husband is in the armed forces and when he is deployed she suffers greatly in fear for his life. We've had many talks about how she manages and communicates her fear. Sometimes she has the urge to tell him she can't stand the fear any longer and he needs to get out, but sh…

I don't know how to help you achieve it, I will leave that to the husbands, but I can tell you that as a woman I am not sore the next day if I am truly turned on and ready to go before intercourse. If I am not and we have to supplement with a lot of lube I am sore the next day but never for two days in a row.

I can imagine your wife right now bragging to her girl friends about how awesome her husband is. Prior to RP I have no idea how important sex is to men and I think many women don't know. Men need to have sex to feel loved and supported and women need to feel loved and supported to have sex. I think many marital issues come down to that right there.

Good point. I don't like messing up but trying too hard to be perfect can remove all of the fun. I think my instinct to directly communicate is being supported by the community. I think it just threw me for a loop when I saw advice from that post that endorsed conditioning her husband instead of talking to him about the problem. It is a constant struggle for me not to be controlling so I wanted to check myself.
/r/MarriedRedPill27/01/15 01:56 AM

That's interesting. There's nothing that I'm frustrated with with Husband. If I'm worried about something I just tell him that I'm worried. My concern was the communicate less thing, but now that I've gone back and look at it, that advice was geared towards men, not women. I will keep in mind 'this really bugs me' if something should pop up.

If your wife is upset or frustrated with something you are doing, how do you like for her to handle it? I sometimes have trouble noticing if I'm shit-testing or bring up valid concerns. I also over-think everything :) .

This specific situation didn't apply to my husband but if it had I think I would have said something like, "The mayo went bad because it was left out. How would you like for me to handle food items being left out?" or if I were frustrated I might tell him something like, "I'm frustrated because the mayo was left out and I'm worried about staying on budget for food,". I don't know if that's aggressive or just giving him information about myself and my thoughts. Is that bad?

If he is not committed and therefore allowed to have sex with other women, you are his plate. Maybe his live-in plate that shares bills, but still his plate. If he marries you and is allowed to have sex with other women, then you have an understanding. But it sounds like he isn't willing to marry you even if he is allowed 'occasional transgressions', and that should tell you something about his level of seriousness about you. Personally I could never do this and from how much anxiety all of this…

I am concerned that you are a plate. If you don't want to be his plate you need to move on. You've been together a year and a half, if he isn't certain and ready to commit, he will never be certain and ready to commit. He broke up with you because he is unwilling to be monogamous. You need to believe him that that he doesn't want a monogamous relationship and you need to believe yourself that you do. We do recommend that you not sleep with a man until you have the commitment of a monogamous rela…

It means that you need to be able to be the level of woman who would attract the level of man you want to date. If you want to date someone who is in the top 20% of intelligence, looks, income, and personality, that means he is in the top .16% of men (math is not my strong point, someone feel free to correct me), so if you aren't in the top .16% of women, your standards are too high.

I'd argue that if it is understood in the relationship that outside sex is not allowed, even if the woman doesn't have explicit knowledge of the cheating, it poisons the relationship due to everything that must go into keeping it secret. Cheating without the woman knowing requires at the very least lying, and lying breaks down a relationship and destroys intimacy. Cheating and not being caught requires STD checks, prevention of pregnancy, and taking at least some amount of resources away from th…

Have you ever enjoyed sex? From other posts it sounds like it always hurts and, I'm not a doctor, it sounds like you aren't getting physically aroused. Just as a man's penis fills with blood when he is aroused, your vagina should fill with blood. Your vaginal walls should tent, the labia will open, and the tissue will be plump and flexible. You should also create secretions that lubricate the skin. It should be enough lubrication that your labia and vaginal walls get slippery to the touch. If th…

I saw this when it first hit 2x and it made me very angry. First, the wife never says she apologized for being so awful. Second, she was being abusive. I mean, great that she came to the realizations that she came to, but if the gender roles were reversed everyone would be screaming that he was being abusive and she should leave. Her behavior was inexcusable. She was awful awful awful. I do hope she has turned her life around and started being decent but ugh, what a terrible harpie.

He may be dark triad. Dark triad men are like a bad addiction for many women. True dark triad men are not marriage-quality men. Cut all contact, delete all social media contacts, block from phone, etc. It hurts but the more completely you break things off, the sooner you will feel better.

I disagree with your advice. It is not passive aggressive (as you said above) to talk to your captain about a problem. It is passive aggressive to purposefully create a situation in which he would want something and not have it in order to teach him a lesson. That's manipulative and treating your captain like a child.

I'm a big fan of just talking to him. Say it simply, respectfully, clearly, and without that horrible tone that we ladies can get. Ask him what you should do about it and then take his advice. Something like, "Hey honey, now that I'm making dinner, I've noticed that you tend to leave food out after making a snack. Sometimes it goes stale or bad before I notice it to put it away. What would you like done about this?" and then shut up. (I tend to want to blather on like, "and I'm totally not upset…

I know know. I guess I'd just say she should talk to her boyfriend. Tell him how she feels and then see what he does with it. If he can step up he will and if he can't he won't. And if he can't step up then she needs to decide if she can be loving and faithful and if she can't she needs to leave.

It's hard and you won't be good at it at first but start being aware of it and practice talking yourself down. Just like with anything worth doing it will take a lot of practice. I promise it is worth it because even if your relationship with this SO ends, this will happen in all of your relationships.

Absolutely. Maybe try a post on repill_couples or asktrp. My understand is though that it is a problem for the women, not the men. It's the women who lose attraction. Plus, like I said, for us it is temporary, so maybe that's why I'm fine with it now.

The reason you got the 'do what works for you and your man' is because your man has no problem with the situation. If he was unhappy, you'd get a different answer. I'm now wondering if it does bother you more than you were letting on. If you making more money than your man is a deal breaker for you, then you have some tough choices to make. You are either going to have to make less money or break up with him and attempt to find a higher earner. Ask your husband what he wants you to do and then d…

I never sent a sexy selfie until I was married and even then I get nervous. I don't understand technology and I know there is some sort of 'cloud' where pictures can be uploaded and stored and hacked or something, no idea really. However, as a married woman, it is fun occasionally to send a sexy selfie. Husband seems to love it even though I don't know that I feel like I look all that sexy in them sometimes. It's an ego boost! But I don't recommend it at all unless married.

I totally see my man as a prince charming so I have trouble imaging that they don't exist. Well, I will admit that I think he also values me for my body, not just my sparkling conversation. ;) I do have one question. You said that in the Marriageable Men that They do not mess up What does that mean? My question is because I don't expect perfection from my husband. I totally agree with this. I just couldn't have a child with someone who wouldn't marry me even though logically I can understand the man's concern. Certainly I agree that marriage is a risky business. However, I want to at least downgrade my career to raise our children. I want to give everything to my SO but if he isn't my husband I don't think I can do that. I agree with the other commenters that your examples sound nit-picky and controlling and he doesn't sound overly sensitive. Control is almost always linked with anxiety. I just wanted to chime in even though this is an old thread. It's part of her job to be on your side and to let you know she is your ally. In therapy it is important for the therapist to have unconditional positive regard for his/her clients. However, the therapist should be able to tell between short term satisfaction, being told you are all right and your husband is all wrong, and long term satisfaction, having the type of marriage that works for you. She can still show positive regard for you (meaning, thinking you are a good person) and help you stop …

If your therapist is 'hating' on your man it is because you are complaining about your man. She only knows what you tell her. Have you told her all of things you say to him? Have you been honest how you treat him? If you said, "I criticized my husband a lot for nothing, for his weight, for not being XYZ," there is no therapist who would reply, "well you need to tell him to do more around the house,". Plus, depending on where you went to college, you may be in debt from student loans or your parents may have spent a lot of money on your tuition only to have you quit. But when it's me and my kids and he is alone, he really doesn't come to my house or involve himself in our lives at all. He chooses to just hang home alone I think this is what's going on. That's a good idea, the not asking. I think I've been scared and tentative and if I want to do it, I should just do it. I doubt he'd shut me down. ;) Also, sometimes when I feel really guilty he will ask me if I would blame him if he had male infertility factor and I immediately realized, no, of course not. It would be 'us', not 'him'. But his sperm count is really high, so it's all me and it's hard being the one 'at fault'. He's really compassionate and I just need to accept it and be grateful.

Oh no, I trust him completely. He is an unbelievably good man. Whenever I ask what he is into, he says that he's into the woman being turned on. In porn, in life, what gets him going is the lady being turned on, and he knows me so he knows when I'm pushing myself, and it doesn't do it for him. He's happier waiting it out and letting the tension build. I just need to trust that he's okay with it and not secretly wishing that he married someone without a broken vagina.

Any chance he is asexual? He doesn't want sex, sexual activities other than P in V, and he isn't looking at porn. Asexuality is starting to be seen as a sexual orientation, just like heterosexual or homosexual. That means that it probably can't be changed. If this is the case you have to negotiate or leave him for someone who shares your sexual orientation. Asexuality does not affect his gender identity- he would still do "man things". Also, get his testosterone level checked. Even if it is in t…

The study you mention has gotten a lot of attention but there has been some critiques, the first being that the data is pretty old- from the 80s. The second being that it is a correlational study, not causational. We cannot conclude that it has anything to do with housework. It could be that the households where one parent stayed home with the child (overwhelming the wife), that she did more housework but there was less tension that with two working parents. Or that in households where the coupl…

Any time I've heard of a woman complaining about her man watching porn it is because she is worried that he will compare her to the girls in the porn and find her lacking. I'm willing to do whatever it takes. Donor eggs/surrogate costs about the same as newborn domestic adoption and has the advantage of being able to chose the egg donor from a data bank. You can choose a woman who looks like you, has a high IQ, good family history, etc. Then you can use a surrogate that you trust to take care of herself during the pregnancy. It's certainly an an option. We have lots of testing, medications, and interventions to try before that option. With medical technology and m…

I haven't had a long marriage but before my marriage I was in a 12 year relationship with a man that dissolved, which was my catalyst for realizing that I need a change in the way I conduct/act in romantic relationships. In my previous relationship my boyfriend was incredibly beta. I decided to just talk to him about it in a pleasant manner. He understood but said that it isn't his habit and he would try but if he forgot I could remind him respectfully. I realized that I really don't want to remind him, it makes me feel naggy and motherly. I told him that, and we both agreed that he would try to remember but if he forgot and I chose not to remind him, that is my problem not his. Yeah, I'd love to find a way to bring it up without me telling him what to do, you know? Lead by example and maybe show him. Or maybe asking him to help me clean up after he cooks? (Knowing my husband, he wouldn't mind. Sometimes he is just oblivious to the mess, not intentionally neglectful.) I don't ask him to help me when I cook because it's almost done. I don't know.

Thank you for your response! I like the idea of going in and starting the cleaning process while he's cooking, especially with music. Sometimes when he cooks I am not home (which is why he is cooking, because I'm working late) but when I am home, this is a great idea. If this (when he cooks, you do the dishes) has been an established part of your routine for any length of time, it seems odd that it suddenly started to bother you to the point that you feel the need to bring it up. How long has th…

True story. My husband was talking to a door-to-door salesman of security systems and I wandered over to listen. The salesman says, "is this the boss?" to my husband, regarding me. I wish I would have said something but I'm a non-confrontational person and I just ducked my head a bit out of shock and embarrassment. My husband said, "this is my wife". There is no way the salesman would have said that if he'd been talking to me and my husband came over, that would have been considered sexist, but …

Occasionally I wonder if anyone things I'm a doormat or worse, mothering my husband. I wonder if they think he's lazy or can't do these things for himself. And then something will happen, like the other day I asked him what he wanted to drink and he said he wanted an Old Fashioned and I told him where the bourbon was and he looked so sad and said, 'but I like it better when you make it', and I realized how much he appreciates what I do and if I stopped it would be a real loss to him. Your question can be answered one of two ways, so I will endeavor to do both. I think you misunderstand the real life dynamics of most of the relationships on this board. 99% of the time agreement can be found after discussion and communication between my husband and me. We are similar people and not only do we love each other, we like each other. If one of us is feeling especially passionate or has a greater mastery, we naturally flow towards that person's preference. The knowledge that we aren…

First, your weight is a very healthy weight- a BMI of 21.5. Going down to 120 would put you at 19.4, still considered healthy. I just want to point out that 135 at 5.6 is far from fat. This is my perception and experience as well. The majority of women I know assume that if a man is kind to them and acts like a friend, that he wants to be her friend. Looking back on my life, I had some orbiters and didn't realize it. I thought I had made it clear that I wasn't interested in romance by keeping the message consistent- insisting on paying for my own things, dating other people, trying to help him pick up women, etc. In my mind we were just friends with no sexual interest in each …

I met her when she was 18 and I would have guessed she was mid-20s. The only thing I can say is that she did act a little jaded, kind of 'too good' at times. I think this is because she hung …

I think this is a fine metaphor for The Wall and there may be a good moral of the story in there, but it does taste a little of a scorned young man's revenge fantasy to me. I left a 12 year relationship. Here is what I wish I would have known. Love is not enough. You must respect and look up to the man you are with. You must feel lucky to be with you and you must feel like being with him makes you a better person. He inspires you to be your best self. I kind of feel like - I think he's a catch, and I'm probably really lucky to have him. But I don't KNOW that for sure, cause I haven't met/dated enough men to really be sure. That's bullshit. I think most people become frustrated in a conversation when he or she doesn't feel heard or like you aren't listening. Most conversations turn into arguments when one or both people aren't feeling heard and even difficult topics can be discussed without fighting if both people are feeling heard and understood. If your husband is getting frustrated it may be because you either aren't listening or you aren't showing that you are listening. Bakerofpie hit on this perfectly. If you are usually play…

To be honest, this sounds like a fantasy novel. The woman runs, resists, pulls away and is healed by a good man's love. I think it's RP to be persistent, steadfast, stoic and sure about what you want and make it happen. Is that what this man did? Or did he put up with wild shit tests and fail every one? It seems that most articles about The Wall are very scary- that a woman's entire value will plummet into nothingness no matter what, that a 20 year old's value will always be greater than a 40 year old's value. A beautiful 20 year old girl is like a vase of flowers- valuable simply because of her beauty. If that girl does nothing of value as she ages, her value will naturally wilt along with her youthful looks. I think the 20-somethings who are obsessed with The Wall misunderstand that it isn't …

I'm a little confused by this. I agree with the fantasy world premise but the example doesn't add up to me. RPW says that to strengthen LTRs, be a good woman. Implantation bleeding occurs for different amounts of time. It could be just one tiny spot of blood one day or it could be days of spots of blood- why women call 'spotting', or, more rarely, it could be several days of light to medium flow of normal red period blood.

Ovulation is the process of the egg leaving the ovary. The egg can only be fertilized after the egg leaves the ovary and the egg dies in 12-24 hours after leaving the ovary if not fertilized. Sperm can live inside a woman's body waiting for the egg to come out for up to 5 days. That's why sex on day 9 could get a woman pregnant- the sperm hang out waiting for the egg. If the egg hasn't been fertilized 24 hours after ovulation, it dies and is not able to be fertilized. It travels down the tubes f…

The higher the number the longer she has been pregnant. A small amount of women have mild bleeding at regular intervals during their entire pregnancy. I am a woman who is trying to get pregnant so I know way more than I ever cared to know about the baby-making process. Most women are fertile 12-17 days before their period, if you had sex with her 7 days before her period, it is unlikely she is pregnant with your baby. Also, most pregnancy tests can't come up positive until about 10-18 days after ovulation (which is 12-17 days before her period). It seems to me that masculinity and femininity are states of mind more than they are describing actions. Yeesh. Abstinence before marriage was never a goal of mine, especially extreme abstinence. "do not participate in even mild sexual contact, such as making out, with any man to whom you are not engaged." Agreed wholeheartedly. It's about respect and so many people do not have it for their romantic partners, and women are somehow encouraged not to have it for their spouses. A few days ago my husband and I were in a thrift store and in speaking with the employee, I wasn't clear on what I wanted. My husband clarified and said, "my wife wasn't clear" and the employee said, "careful, I don't want to tear her off of you like a cat!". Last weekend my husband surprised me with a pampering day as an early Valentine's Day celebration. He got me a massage and then took me to dinner! It was wonderful AND I didn't plan any part of it! Usually he's game for "whatever you want", when truly what I want is for him to make the plans. So it was double special because he planned it and it was incredibly sweet. So suddenly I'm upping my game for Valentine's Day. I usually cook a nice meal but I'm pulling out the stops. We are having oyster…

I'd date you because you like to travel, are a scientist (I love science and you have a career, not just a job), like to exercise and cook. It says that you are interested in LTRs. I don't hook up so that'd also be a plus for me. I wouldn't get the idea from your profile that you are RP.

I'd date you but I wouldn't think you were RP. You use a lot of words and story telling devices in your profile. Sometimes it feels a little pretentious. The question is 'what are you good at' and you tell a story instead of just answering the question. The first line is good, the rest sounds a little douchey. The same with the level of detail on the 6 things you can't live without (WTF is aeropressed?). If your six was coffee, family portraits at Christmas, cooking delicious food, mountain biki…

I have a similar story as many of you. My mom is in charge in my parent's marriage and my dad follows the "happy wife, happy life" motto. Their marriage has been difficult and I don't want my marriage to be anything like it. Where my parents differ is that my dad suffers from depression and PTSD from his experiences in Vietnam. Growing up he was emotionally volatile and my mom was the stabilizing force in the family. They would fight terribly and I know she was unhappy. I sometimes wonder if he …

The desire to have a baby sometimes takes over and I turn into a crazy person. Here is the thing. RPW is about respecting your man. I think you need to start respecting how he wants to eat. Acting like he needs you to change his eating habits sounds very mother-child to me. It is a stupid solution that is getting press because it is inflammatory. I'm more interested in the politician that thinks such a thing. Seriously where does that information come from? Fat isn't just a benign substances that simply lays under the skin, it interacts with the body in potentially very negative ways. It sounds like you really respect your man. I'm just worried about this long term because you are so isolated and from the outside it seems like your isolation has been at best thoughtless and at worst systematic and intentional. I've been so fortunate in my life to be surrounded my strong capable women (mother, grandmother, female friends) who are accepting of all choices- career, stay-at-home-mom, have kids, don't have kids, etc. Until I started looking at online feminism I really felt like that is what feminism is- choices for women. It makes sense because it's all about fear. The fear is that people will point to Michelle Obama and say 'see, evidence that educating a woman is useless, all of that education has gone to waste because what she values most is being a mother and wife', and many women want to be educated and have careers. Flirting is over-rated. I think smiling, being friendly, and genuinely being interested in the other person is much more effective. People are incredibly interesting if you pay attention. Ask open ended questions and then follow-up questions, smile and compliment a man if you are romantically interested in him. Concentrate on being a good conversationalist instead of trying to flirt. I'm much prettier today than I was 10 years ago due to knowing what the heck to do with myself and I'm comfortable with the fact that I won't be able to say the same in 10 years. I'm growing as a human, becoming more complex and interesting, while trying to stay physically fit and taking care of my skin and looks as best I can. What makes me insecure is if I can't, I don't know... stay vulnerable? What if I can't deal with my anxiety and become my mother? Anytime somethin…

We are making some changes in our marriage as well and I'm the woman, so maybe I can offer some insights. When I'm in charge in my marriage I feel comfortable but not happy. Comfortable works for a long time, and in your case it seems to have worked for 11 years but now she wants to be happy. I hope she realizes she is going to have to give up on being comfortable for a long time before she can be both comfortable and happy. That's the nature of growth- it isn't comfortable. My concern is that y…

This... this is a hard one. It doesn't sound like you are comfortable with this idea. I just can't see it being a good idea if you aren't 100% comfortable with it and I hope your husband agrees with me on that. Swinging is something both people need to be on board with and you aren't. Talk to him and listen with open ears. Don't be formulating your arguments while he's speaking, just listen. Why does this appeal to him? Then hopefully he will be able to hear you when you speak about your thought…

There is no people, there is only one person. You only allow a good man of your choice to influence you, a man you are happy and proud to be with. The vast majority of the time for me this doesn't come into play. He has his expertise, I have mine. If we disagree we discuss it respectfully and we both strive to hear the other person's opinion and viewpoint. Usually this is where it ends because we come together on a decision, if rarely, we still disagree he gets the final decision. He is the visi…

I agree that you can be in charge of yourself without being lonely; that was not the question. I asked why submission is a threat to self-respect.

I would ask why submission is such a threat to self-respect. Only respecting yourself if you are in charge seems like a hard and lonely way to live.

It's easy for women to get laid, I agree. I disagree though that the experience of lost love is easier for women. I grieved terribly over my 'first'- my first love, the man I lost my virginity to. I cried so much that I tore the first layer on my eyes. I grieved for a long time and I think about it with fondness but also with the knowledge that he and I could not have worked out, we were too different on values and goals. I can't agree that The virginity takers in your life aren't with you in th…

I'm very careful with the canning. I don't have a pressure canner yet so I'm stuck with water bath canning but with the pickled products, the vinegar is an excellent preservative. The tomatoes are on the line acidity wise so they get an added burst of acidity with added lemon juice. Then properly canned in a water bath. I'm melting raw shea butter, adding some almond oil and then alternatively whipping it with a mixer and cooling it. I'll let you know how it goes. As far as the natural makeup, I…

I do some gardening and canning and this year I canned 35 cans of tomatoes and 12 jars of pickles. I would love to learn to sew better (at all). I'm making my first batch of whipped shea butter lotion tomorrow. Any tips?

Ooooo, love the French wardrobe. I've been trying to do that and sometimes I balk at the prices, but I know if I can just get up the muster and do it, it will be less expensive in the longterm.

I think fostering gratitude and noticing all that he does right is important. It's easy to take something for granted that is done well all of the time but it is just as important to resist that. If you have gratitude for the things he does well and notice the times he doesn't let you down, your brain will not allow you to overreact because it will be a drop of ink in an ocean of clean water.

Hey there! You are singing my song. My husband is a full-time student and I currently make all of our money, I also have historically been the decision maker. Here is what I'm learning- my control is about anxiety. I feel that if I don't do it, it won't get done. The problem is that I have created that reality for myself by managing, manipulating, and controlling everything. I don't mean that I do it meanly, it's just what I do. I have a clear vision of how things must be or should be, and then …

Right now I feel more uncomfortable than anything, but most things worth doing are hard in the beginning. We haven't talked about it yet but I plan on telling him that I'm proud of him, he's working very hard, and I know it will be okay because I believe in him. Then I'll probably do an hour and a half of yoga to relieve my stress. ;)

Or is it that the similarities between conservative Christian values and RPW's values simply make it easier for women of women of the Christian persuasion to digest? This is my theory as well. I'm not a Christian nor do I have any ties to the bible. If something is said in the bible it means about as much to me as something said in Harry Potter. It might be interesting and meaningful to other people and I respect that, but it doesn't impact me. For me this is about not repeating my past mistakes…

I believe communication is great but often things can be resolved through different actions, so the idea of not talking about it (nagging) makes sense to me. Treat him like an alpha, he'll be an alpha. Did I get the gist?

Lead by example. If you show her an example of a happy, healthy relationship, that will be the most powerful thing you can do. As a step-mother, your direct influence may be limited depending on your relationship with her and any time you spend telling her 'how it is' will be wasted and may go against your intentions. Show her how it is and the lesson will stick.

I'm really new here as well. I know he says he doesn't mind and trust is a non issue between us. The thing is though is that he is not very assertive and won't say no to me. This is what struck me the most in your post. Right now you can't trust your husband to tell you the truth if he minds you leaving for a mini vacation. I've been in a relationship where I couldn't trust my partner to tell me if something was wrong and it caused me a lot of stress. Friends would tell me how lucky I am to have…

I've always been very feminine and dressed femininely. Many women and some men immediately assume I'm weak. I find it sad that we see feminine qualities as weak and masculine qualities as strong. I just keep on being myself- feminine and competent. Anyone who knows me for much time at all can see that I am not weak.

I know this is old, but I wanted to comment. I think for me it helped when she said "I will follow him even if he makes a bad decision" because that's the mindset I need to have. I have trust issues and my husband is not perfect. There will come a time where he will make a decision that I disagree with and in retrospect I will have been right. It is inevitable if we go on to live the 50 years together I am hoping for. That being said, if I were making the decisions, it would happen just the same…

Well, I'm not sure why this is happening to you other than you inspire these men to be protective. Do you want to go from 'little sister' to 'girlfriend' or do you want men to simply stop doing this to you? If you want to go from little sister to girlfriend, maybe try to increase your sexiness. Please don't misunderstand me, I am not saying to try to sleep with the man, I'm just saying to decrease the little girl vibe and increase the natural sexual being vibe. Continue to dress modestly but may…

Tonight I'm cooking dinner and I'm going to pack a lunch for him and set up the coffee machine so it will be ready for him in the morning. I gotta agree. This just isn't adding up. People don't hand out abuse hotline cards for no reason. And even the most beautiful woman in the world knows how to exude an air of unavailablity in a way that men understand.

Thank you for your input. I completely agree he has to find his own groove as well. He's never going to be someone like Dana's husband who "bosses people around in his sleep" and I'm okay with that. He's really happy with our marriage, as am I, but I'm having some nastily familiar old emotions come up that I had in my past LTR where I feel drained and resentful at times because it feels like it is all up to me. I love that he wants me to be happy but sometimes what makes me happy in the long run…

He likes my juxtaposition of strength and femininity. He likes that I am sweet, pretty, and wear dresses while knowing how to set up a 401k, buy train tickets in a foreign country, and am calm in the face of a crisis. I see a problem, I fix the problem. It doesn't occur to me to rely on someone else. I don't want to change the rules on him and him to be confused or let down. I get anxious even thinking about this, which makes me realize you are right. It's so damn vulnerable. What if he doesn't step up? (rhetorical question) It's all about trust, which is one of my big issues. Ugh. I'm so uncomfortable, which, again, is how I know it's the thing I need to do. What should be his duties and what should be my duties? If he is neglecting a duty, what should I do?

He is very chill and I'm less so. I do notice more and that's part of my problem. I notice it, he doesn't, and I'm trying to figure out what is 'taking control' and what is 'taking care of things while he does his schooling'.

I think we might need to talk about whose job is what, maybe? I would like to be the one to take care of the pets because it makes me anxious if they go without. But then I try not to be domineering so then I try to step back. I'm obviously sending very mixed signals. I'm very happy to take on the household stuff, including pets.

You are probably right. I may have made it too easy for him. I try not to shit-test or do those things that women do to test their man. I don't want to complain when he is working so hard on his degree for US, but maybe I've gone overboard with taking everything else on?

Oh, I agree with you. I just have no idea how to do this exactly. I've always been labeled 'a natural leader', and I am. I enjoy leading, mentoring, teaching. But not in my marriage. Sometimes I think to myself 'yes, I know the pets are 6 months overdue for their shots but I am letting him lead!' but then nothing happens. Then I think 'am I expecting him to be psychic? That's not right.'. So honestly, I am lost on how not to lead.

I will look into the book, thank you. He has a clear vision of where he wants to be in 2 years- gainfully employed, with a child, maybe working towards living off the grid, good friendships and food. This is a good example though of where I take the lead. He would like to move back to his home state and we currently live in my home state. He has said that if I'm not okay with moving he won't look for work in his home state. He feels that he can be happy anywhere and he isn't sure if I want to mo…

I like being in control, having the leg up, but the consequence of being everyone's rock is the burden aspect. I'm learning that more and more it isn't working for me. It is a slow process, like untangling a knot, to figure out how to stop doing this. No, I don't like it anymore. I especially don't like it in my marriage. Although I wouldn't say I'm nearly as much this way in my marriage. I have recently discussed with him how I feel. He said he understood and that he acknowledges that taking in…

I too am self-employed, and am able to support myself on my earnings comfortably. I've always been stubborn and unyielding, unable to follow a rule unless it made sense to me. But I have found someone who deserves my submission (by the author's definition) and that's more important to me.

I really like this author's definition of submission. "In reality, submission is putting the interests of someone or something else before your own, without even thinking about it." Submission has always had a bad connotation for me but under this definition, it's something I strive for each day.

I feel similarly to you. I'm coming to understand that perhaps the world is not so black and white that there is only one philosophy that works or should be taken into account. Perhaps I should learn and keep my eyes open and not get stuck in a single mind frame, bettering myself. I don't need things to be One Way or The Other. For me, wisdom lies somewhere between.

Just to clarify- the wee girl, is that you or your daughter? In either case I would say give him a day of relaxing and then see what happens. If after a day he is still to busy, talk with him nicely about it. No accusing, just talking and see where that goes.
