If you could kick the person in the pants responsible for most of your trouble, you wouldn’t sit for a month.

I’m generally stubborn and don’t give up easily. I’m also a problem solver by habit. I had a lot of hubris about believing I could fix anything. At the time I justified it as wanting to keep the family together for my kid.

Have you read Stop Walking on Eggshells? There is also a great book called Solitting which is about divorcing someone with BPD. I highly recommend both.

Have you tried therapy?

Wow, was your kid born on February 29th or some strange thing or did you just find some negative loophole?

Wow, that's an achievement! You should get a badge for unlocking the "state supreme court" level. 😅

Wow, 5 years! That's....impressive!? I mean at that point, no one expects you to put your life on hold for that long. Glad you made it through!

Well, hopefully the court (should it get there) will realize that a happy parent is a good parent! Thanks for the advice!

Well, my judge is an old woman. 😂 I just wonder, is the expectation (of the judges) that each party doesn't date anyone until after the divorce is finalized and failure to comply earns a demerit?

I'm sorry to hear that. Sounds tough. Fortunately the financial stuff isn't a huge issue on our end. I mean no one is losing a house or anything over the divorce. Personally I'm indifferent to money so I just let her decide how much to burn on lawyers and then we split whatever is left.

Ya, I don't have any moral objections to dating before my divorce is legally finalized. I am, however, like you concerned about minimizing complications. For a while I had some fantasy that it was incumbent on me to minimize complications. But your point about whether it's "worth it" or not is key. I think for me, my relationship is worth some complications.

Ya, that's been my MO so far. Right now she's been digging herself deeper into a whole. It's also hard because at some point I want to get out from under the long shadow of my STBX. It's just crazy how long these things take. And it's weird how my STBX feels she still somehow has some claim to my personal life. Ah...eventually this will be over...

This has to suck. How do I know? I am in the same bucket! Stay safe my friend!

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
