Went to the grocery store this weekend as I usually do. The checker get’s done scanning my purchases and he says to me, “Would you like to round your total up to the nearest dollar for xxx charity?”
Al: What was that?
Checker: We’re taking donations for xxx who give micro loans to women in third world countries.
Al: Really? What about the men? Or better yet, why should I give money to this so called charity so they can lend it out? They’ll get it back plus interest.
Checker: ???
Al: Nevermind, the answer is ‘no’.
In the past I would have said yes without considering it any further. Not any more.
