There will always be rich people giving money, but the vast majority of charity giving this country comes from . . . the working, conservative religious poor and they have in the past given to all sorts of charities. (Not welfare poor with comparable income they don’t give. Working poor). Conservatives are even more likely to give blood.
Conservatives as a whole give 4 times what liberals do.
My father is a traditional conservative, he would give (secretly and it often frustrated my mom) to museums and science centers, especially ones for child. He saw it as a duty, a responsibility.
This will not last.
The people that give to charities are the ones that our society as a whole repudiates, denigrates and devalues.
Our society is so utterly corrupt that it shits on the noblest among us.
Couple that attitude with the death of surplus income for the vast majority of the population in the next ten years and what are you going to have?
The end of nonprofits (and good riddance). The end of charity out side of these people’s direct communities: their church, the people they are connected to in their neighborhood. National charities are going to be devastated, all those jobs are going.
Guilt trips and shaming will be tried. Guess what? You cannot shame someone you have already denigrated. You can shame someone that you have treated like a hero, you can shame someone that you respect, by taking a little of it away. You cannot shame someone your treat like dirt, you cannot shame a villain. And our society has treated these people like dirt. Like villians.
It is like saying “I hate you, but now that you’re not being nice, I really hate you.”
I imagine the call for mandatory public service, pro bono, “volunteer” work and all that nonsense will get pushed through.
Which will only make things worse. People will do the absolute bottom of the barrel minimum to get their mandatory public service done, but instead of instilling civic pride and service in our society, this will kill and charity, and giving, any volunteering. No one will be vested in our society. Our local communities, there will still be, especially in the middle of this country. But the estrangement from each other, the alienation that we foster because those in power, in the media despise our culture, our ideals will only grow. We will become a nation of sociopaths.
Our culture is so steeped in evil that it will actively and effectively kill all virtue.
