A college buddy’s wife delivered their first baby today. A good looking and healthy baby boy. Of course the proud parents put up photos of their new addition onto Facebook.
I’m not totally heartless, I congratulated him on his new son.
Then I clicked on the picture to get a better look. Papa and baby are obviously at the hospital. Papa (my friend) is reclining on a bed, pillows propped up behind him, a blanket pulled up over papa and the baby. Papa is shirtless, and baby has one of those dish rag hats that hospitals put on baby’s head right after birth and nothing else. For a second I stared at the picture trying to figure out what didn’t seem quite right to me. And then it dawned on me. It was a typical picture I’ve seen of new mothers right after giving birth. The baby tucked under the mother’s hospital gown. The skin to skin contact of mother and baby.
When did men start doing this?
