Because the slutwalk was held on Fathers’ Day in Seattle, I was unable to observe the event myself (not the kind of thing one brings young children along to see). Fortunately, the Seattle PI put together a photo gallery of the event, and it doesn’t appear that I missed anything but an even raunchier, more tasteless version of the local Pride Parade.
The pictures, if one cares to go through them, are a depressing display of the dregs of Seattle — the city’s tattooed, flabby, perverted and ugly who always associate with such causes. Mercifully, the sun did not shine on them. It appears that the “Radical Women” showed up, which is not surprising. They are professional demonstrators associated with the Freedom Socialist Party; a Trotskyite organization comprised mostly of older lesbians and their exotic third world immigrant girlfriends. I’m always a bit bemused by how young feminists will claim that feminism has nothing to do with Communism. In fact, it is a direct outgrowth. The Radical Women/FSP here in Seattle features a stained glass Trotsky on their office window — I saw it myself just the other day while walking up 45th near the University of Washington with a friend whose father was a refugee from the Bolsheviks.
I have to conclude that Roissy was right about the slutwalks:
There is also the self-soothing psychological angle at work here. Beasts who love to brag about their sluttiness aren’t convincing others so much as they are convincing themselves of their imaginary desirability. A grrlpower slut walk is just the medicine for a lonely loser girl who’s spent one too many nights with her purple saguaro, which now vibrates in fear. She can bellow at the top of her lungs along with the rest of the sideshow freaks what a DYNAMIC and MAGNETIC piece of ass she is, and for that brief moment — that sweet afternoon escape on the streets of the city — she believes it, and her happiness swells as she fondly misremembers all those depressing, sloppy one night stands as some sort of twisted proof of her femininity and sexiness.
Beasts and sideshow freaks indeed.
