Have had a couple of questions about how Jennifer and I stayed together before we married. For those following we had a three year three month courtship, during which we were actually in the same country physically together for a total of three months.
The short answer is I have no clue, I was out of my mind.
The long answer is;
1. Meet girl
2. Fly back to New Zealand
3. Masturbate furiously
4. ????
5. Get Married!
I know that’s not terribly helpful, but that’s about the truth of it.
Okay something more I guess. We basically both just activated on each other and parting was awful. We had no contact with each other for a few months after I went back until she sent me a package thingy. After we got to talking it became quickly apparent that if we were to ever be together in the same country, that it would require a huge commitment from one person to make the move, and that naturally suggested the other person also make a huge commitment.
So we were talking marriage before the first kiss.
I visited her and her family for Christmas for seven weeks and after about 2-3 weeks together I proposed. She came out to New Zealand and met my family the following Christmas. About a year later we married and I moved here.
But yes… this was a horrible time in many ways. Just a dull ache that gnawed away at everything. No email, no Skype, a handful of expensive phone calls, just lots of letters that took weeks to travel across the Pacific. Just an emotional marathon. Actually being married just seems like easy mode after all that.
Jennifer is the biggest risk I have taken in my whole life. I left everything, my family, my country, my friends. It’s paid off though. We’re home.
