Now, I know what you’re thinking.  Some of you are saying to yourself, ‘alright, now we’re gonna get to the good stuff.’  Whatever that means.  Nope, this isn’t a post about getting it on with your women in a hot tub…

Long pause as I fondly remember an evening (or two) with an HB7 and a hot tub….Ok, I’m back.

Have any of you faithful readers ever owned a hot tub?  Now, prior to my hot tub days I used to think they were a nice diversion.  Sitting in hot water with soothing jets after a long day of work or play.  Ah, what a feeling.  Sadly, the daydream and the reality are a bit different.

Hot tubs these days are a wonderful chemical bath that takes quite a bit of time to prepare.  Out are the old chlorine and bromine systems, in is, well, you got me.  My particular hot tub takes approximately 2 days to get it prepared for use.  I won’t go into all the details, but after filling it there are roughly a half dozen different additives that have to be put into the water.  Calcium hardness, ph balancer, anti-foam, disinfectant.  Blah, blah, blah.  Several of these things have to be added in stages with significant amouts of time between additions.  Boring to say the least.  All I really want to do is fill it up, heat it up, and jump in.  After 60 days, the whole process starts again.  Drain the tub, scub a dub dub, fill her up, and do it all over again.

Now, when we first got this hot tub it was great.  Like a shiny new toy we used it all the time.  But after a while, we started using it less and less.  Pretty soon we were using it hardly at all.  Upkeep?  Well, dump a little disinfectant in it every couple of weeks, but other than that, we aren’t using it.  So the whole drain, scrub, refill, treat schedule pretty much went out the door.

So hot tubs and women.  I was thinking last night as I drifted off to sleep that the idea of how great a hot tub would be is kind of like the idea of how great it would be to have a woman in your life.  At first it is fabulous.  The excitement of it all, the exploration both of the psychological and physical kind.  The flaws, the minor inconveniences aren’t really that grating.  But after a while, you and she start to see and address the negatives.  Sex can be like using the hot tub.  At first it’s an everyday occurrence, but after a while and familiarity sets in, it starts to drop off.

It doesn’t need to be this way in an LTR, but it takes work from both partners.  Unfortunately in our instant gratification culture, women are told they can have everything (handed to them), and men are told to supplicate to their spouses/significant others.  Talk about a recipe for intimate celibacy.  In essence I’m just repeating the old saw.  Game does not end when you begin an LTR.  If anything it is just the beginning.

Now obviously, hot tubs are inanimate objects and don’t get pissed when you ignore them.  Yeah, they can get pretty ugly without maintenance (you know, like something crawled in and died.  I’m talking about hot tubs here, sicko).  Women on the other hand take a lot more effort in the proper care and feeding department.  Some, like Devil’s Advocate would rather rent by the hour and let someone else pay for the care and upkeep.  Others like Dave and Athol Kay have figured out how to balance the care and upkeep with the fun and excitement.  I have no problems with either route.  Whichever you choose, it’s best to keep in mind your expectations versus the reality.
