I’ve been perusing my music collection searching for something that fits my mood. And I came across this gem by Bob Dylan. Here’s an excerpt of the lyrics. Mind you I don’t believe I can copy all the lyrics and not run afoul of fair use so this is just a taste.
Nobody has to guess
That Baby can’t be blessed
Till she sees finally that she’s like all the rest
With her fog, her amphetamine and her pearls.
She takes just like a woman, yes, she does
She makes love just like a woman, yes, she does
And she aches just like a woman
But she breaks just like a little girl.
Rolling Stone named this song #230 on the 500 greatest songs of all time. Personally, I prefer Richie Havens version either off of Sings Beatles and Dylan or the live version off of Bob Dylan 30th anniversary concert celebration.
The wikipedia entry on the song has an un-cited bit saying that women’s groups don’t like the ‘disparaging lyrics’. If you ask me, Dylan understood quite well the nature of women.
