Have women in their 20s and 30s lost their censors, thanks to years of hearing about celebrities making sex tapes and porn stars writing books, or are we truly kinkier than our mothers and grandmothers? Or has adult entertainment just wised up and started making material that women find more acceptable to watch and read?
Will she answer the questions, or will she provide anecdotal support for her conclusions? Should I even ask that question? Probably not.
Dana B. Myers, of Booty Parlor, Inc., says sexual desire is in our human nature and giving in to those desires is something we’ve always done. The only thing that has changed is that young women are now more inclined to talk about it. In fact, talking about it is validating: “Having a friend mention, ‘Hey, have you checked out YouPorn.com? I sometimes watch it to get turned on and use my toy!’ makes a woman say to herself, ‘Yes, this is OK! I do it, I enjoy it, I’m still a normal woman,’” says Myers. “If a friend can validate her curiosity and her experience, then she feels more comfortable to explore.”
Notice the need for social proof before admitting to watching adult material. The best part of this article is that it’s trying to make the case that women in their 20’s and 30’s are comfortable watching porn and even feel empowered by it all. Just take a gander at the ages of the ladies being interview. With one exception they are all in their mid to late 30’s. The exception was 31.
