About a month ago, a well-liked Seattle wine steward named Yancy Noll was shot to death in a brazen attack carried out in broad daylight. Some fine fellow driving a BMW was behind him and there was allegedly some kind of traffic dispute, following which the man in the beamer pulled up alongside Mr. Noll, pulled a gun, and emptied five rounds in his direction, striking him in the head three times.
It was a pretty shocking crime for the middle class North Seattle neighborhood, and it seemed incredible that someone could get away with it. Fortunately, a man who lived only a half mile away from the murder scene, with a freshly repainted BMW with new tires, was taken into custody a few days ago.
The arrested man is named Dinh Bowman, and was a “child prodigy” of sorts who went on to work in tech. As a child, he was trained in weapons (swords) while he attended university, starting at age 13. He was even profiled by the local paper back in 1996, coming off back then as a precocious, if somewhat odd, child.
So, needless to say, this is an interesting story in the SWPL land of Seattle, where a murder involving a wine steward and wealthy tech worker is very much the stuff of public interest, as opposed to the typical downscale murder in the ghetto or trailer parks.
As the story develops, it is coming to light that Mr. Bowman’s wife, a dentist named Jennifer Leah Bowman, may have been involved in attempting to cover up his crime. After police received an anonymous tip implicating Bowman from someone who said he had anger issues and fit the profile and composite sketch, they paid a visit to the Bowman household. While knocking on the door on September 12th to check on the tip, they noticed a security camera aimed at them. Nobody answered.
The police then staked out the house, gathering enough evidence for a warrant when they saw a vehicle in the garage fitting the description of the killer’s vehicle. Soon, they served the warrant and took Mr. Bowman into custody. While doing so, they received permission to search Mrs. Bowman’s purse, finding receipts for new tires, paint and tape dating from the day they had first attempted to contact the couple.
It seems Mrs. Bowman had done all the legwork to conceal possible evidence of a crime, and when asked about the car’s new window, she claimed the car had been broken into when they were in Portland, Oregon over the weekend.
While searching the house, police found extensive evidence of Dinh Bowman’s fascination with weapons, including reloading tools, rifles, scopes, handgun holsters (the guns that fit them were missing), 9mm ammo, a couple magazines, a 9mm slide without the rest of the gun and a note on the refrigerator in which Jennifer commended her husband for being “the best shot in the West.”
Indeed, Dinh is an extraordinary marksman. A video pulled from his wife’s Flickr account shows him running an obstacle course with a 9mm auto nailing target after target rapid fire. He goes through several magazines, then knocks down a number of small targets one-handed, firing both left and right-handed. If a defense attorney wanted to argue that it would have been difficult for Mr. Bowman to hit someone in the head three times through a closed car window firing single-handedly, he just lost that opportunity.

On his website, Bowman displays some chilling views that suggest he may be psychopathic. The following is a post titled “Design for Emotional Connection:”
Functionality is a requirement for good industrial design. Emotion connection gets you the bonus points. Example:
A sports vehicle should make you scream. It should intimidate initially, but make you feel like a driving god.
The psychic utility of experiencing this emotional connection is what justifies premium over purely functional. Think about how this applies to fashion, dining, or your industry.
Functional is required. Emotive is better.
What’s strange about Mrs. Bowman’s behavior is that this is the kind of guy that we’re incessantly warned about by the prevailing feminist line. In fact, men are tarred as being psychopathic and dangerous in general, but most of us are far from it. If Dinh Bowman really is the killer, and it looks that way, he’s an outlier.
So why would a well-behaved, apparently liberal female (according to who she follows on Twitter), go to such lengths to protect the guy? These days, any intelligent woman should know that it is to her personal advantage to roll over and betray her husband at a moment’s notice, yet it is commonly the psychopaths, the murderers, the criminals and the cruel that receive their love, admiration and protection, even when staying with and standing up for these men means personal ruin for them.
Jennifer Leah Bowman worked as a dentist in an upscale island suburb, lived in a SWPL neighborhood, and yet she apparently chose to help her husband get away with a heinous crime. What does this tell us about the world?
