Despite being attached to a very good-looking, apparently sweet younger woman, 32 year old Elisabetta Canalis, George Clooney has confirmed his commitment to bachelorhood by telling her to hit the road shortly after she started dropping hints of marriage and children to an Italian tabloid.
In an interview with Italian gossip magazine Chi, Canalis said she “wouldn’t be with someone who didn’t want to get married or have kids.”
Although celebrity gossip is a mere distraction from the issues at hand, there is some reflection of society in general in the behavior and statements of movie stars. 40 years ago a public figure likely would have been far more reserved about his commitment to bachelorhood, but Clooney, who went through a divorce in the early 90s, has openly declared himself to be dead-set against marriage.
It seems that Canalis thought she’d be the one to break him, but when she laid it on the line Clooney stuck to his guns and cut her loose:
Sources said the Ocean’s Star flipped after being being ‘pressed’ about marriage by Canalis – who two weeks ago had given a gushing interview about how she was ‘living a fairytale’ and hoped to wed the actor.
As more and more prominent men unashamedly declare their abhorrence of marriage, and others are put through terrible ordeals for being married, the institution inevitably loses its luster for the humble masses who take their example from those above.
