Single buddies of married men (and the women who hate them)
by Ken Knight
I have mentioned this phenomenon in previous articles and posts here yes, but I have been thinking perhaps I should expand on the subject a bit more. Yes, it is a well-known derivative of marriage that a man’s buddies (especially the single ones) are usually dismissed by their newly-married friend as soon as cupcake makes her view of them known and presses hubby to mind his ball-and-chain (household / wifey chores) and act accordingly. Single male friends are seen as possible “saboteurs” by an insecure wife because, to put it simply he’s like the escaped slave, he brings news of freedom! (to quote comedian Bill Maher). To toss kerosene onto the fire of argument even more, I’d daresay it is a single man’s “freedom” that may indeed make the married buddy re-think his position, with the exception of “smug marrieds” i.e. men who think they are better than their single, unattached, childless brothers because they have “what is expected of a man” and like my buddy Davis who calls himself a “p*ssy getting motherf*cker” because he’s been married twice in ten years and is bankrupt to prove it. Hubris may cause blindness!
In my own experience as a lifelong bachelor I have had friends and associates who were single for years, gotten married then divorced, and even ones who got married and (willingly) settled into being “locked down” as soon as the honeymoon was over and never seen again by his male buddies. To wit I have seen/heard wives of married buddies deride single men they knew as any one of the litany of insecure woman’s pet-monsters:
- “He’s a creep; no one else hangs out with him! (even though she doesn’t see the guy but once in a blue moon and assumes her hubby is said single guy’s “only” friend in the world).
- “He doesn’t have a girlfriend, what is he queer or something?” (no girlfriend the wife has ever seen because single guy doesn’t want to bring his date/girlfriend anywhere near the bitch).
- “All he does is drink and party!” (although cupcake has only seen him at a party and finds it convenient to defame the single guy as a raging alcoholic based solely on one or two party-scene observations).
- “He’s a never-been-married loser, why be pals with him?” (yet another example of cupcake playing to a smug husband’s bravado in attempt to get him to see his single buddy as a “loser” for NOT having a ball-and-chain).
- “Guys like him are dangerous…reminds me of Timothy McVeigh” (probably the worst shaming of a single guy I’ve heard so far from married women I know, and it was based on the fact the guy was single and liked firearms as well as rugged outdoor camping but did not have a wife to “restrain” him).
- “You think your friend is gay and doesn’t know it yet?” (more fag shaming from a wife about one of her husband’s never-married single buddies who she doesn’t let come around enough times to bring a girlfriend with him, playing on hubby’s dislike of homos to get him to drop single buddy).
Far be it for me to assume every dynamic of couples-living because I for one have avoided marriage my entire adult life, but I have seen and heard these very instances of married women shaming the hell out of single men who happen to be friends with their husbands, enough to draw a very definitive conclusion: To the married couple a single man is “kryptonite” and in most cases gets dropped from the invite-list after awhile as many of you already know.
The lesson here for single men comes forth as a looking-glass “powerpoint” where one can view a crystal clear picture of what married life would be like for them by the way he is treated by the wife (and often his recently-married buddy) once the wedding ceremony is over and snookems has sent out her thank-you cards to all the suckers who bought her something pricey for her “special day”.
One more lesson to ponder in this regard….what do you think could happen in the latter days (soon to come) of an American Matriarchy with this “kick the single guy out” phenomenon sliding further out into a society-wide spectrum in this growing “public safety” culture?
- Single men without children not allowed being in areas where children congregate
- Single men prosecuted for “street harassment” (flirting w/ uninterested women)
- “Bachelor’s Tax” money-siphoning (backed by Evangelicals of course)
- Single men shamed increasingly more so in media (a la “Our Idiot Brother”, etc.)
For all the freedoms a single man does enjoy, he will always be top of the hate list for married women, single feminists, lesbians, and the men who look down on them because they’re not doing “what a man should do”. If these folks could build a concentration camp and toss men like me in it, they would!
