I have been pondering this idea for a few days now and I have been trying to find a solution. As history describes it is very difficult to change peoples ideals and thoughts on topics such as gender as they are ingrained into who we are. I propose to instead of removing the gender bias, but to remove the gender from the courtroom.

The gender of the defendant (and if necessary the gender of the victim / victims) would be kept secret from the judge, jury and by extension the public. All the judge and jury would be able to now was the age, and the area they lived in. Any testimony by the defendant or victims if necessary would be distorted to the same or similar pitch so that you would be unable to derive their gender from their voice. Any other testimony would given as gender neutral by referring to the defendant or the victim, not as him/her/he/she.

I'm not saying this would be easy. It would require an extensive overhaul of our current court system and how we deal with those involved in the precedings. Nor do I know how the system I propose would handle the case if genders where revealed.

I think this is an interesting way to deal with the problem, and I feel it would take well as a social study first, as it is no where near a perfect replacement.
