I realize the title is a little overblown considering the following situation isn't (at least not yet) all that horrible.

Months ago I moved from Ontario to a town in BC (both in Canada for those unfamiliar with Canadian geography), spent several months in what we'll call town A, and moved to town B to accept a job. Upon arriving in town B I was arranged by a friend to stay with her friend in town B. I wasted very little time conceiving a child, and she wasted very little time moving several thousand kms away to stay at her parents house and enroll in school (finishes mid 2016).

Now, I did object to the move, and brainstormed a way to keep her and my child near me, so I can get to know my child (BTW, a boy). She left a job, and had them falsify paper work to be eligible for employment insurance benefits, was using marijuana while pregnant (debatable how bad that is, but I objected and was basically told where to go). She won't be receiving any income for a few years and is relying on her parents. I'm really unhappy with this decision as I was never given any consideration on what is best for my son what-so-ever, and it was all made so rashly without a sober second thought.

Now, that said, I've made honest attempts to bring some civility to the situation and it appears to be working, but because she insists on freeloading on the government, her parents, and myself I have to make some big decisions. One would be to uproot my whole career and life to move to her town to be close to my son, putting me out of work and unable to support my son for what could be months and could force me into a homeless situation as I have very little money at the moment. The second would be for her to move back here but she doesn't want to leave school or her free rent or parents or fraud government cheques. Visitation isn't ideal because of the wasted money several times a year plus all the time off work which would again make it unable to support my son. Shared custody has been discussed and she doesn't seem to object, but she has proven to be erratic.

In all the research I've done, it sort of seems like it doesn't matter what I do, I'm put in a pretty shitty heartbreaking position in what should be the happiest most exciting events of my life, all due to her decisions which I respect, and the only real decision I can see is to sell all my crap and move to some shitty town, which I'm fine with because my son will be there, but what if one day she decides to try and limit my access?

Sorry for all the details and everything, just wondering if anybody has been in a situation like this, and has advise, strategy, common mistakes, anything... Would be appreciated.
