The title of the article kind of threw me off to what it was ultimately going to be about, but this just sickens me. These men have these urological problems now because doctors in a room decided that anything that deviates from normal needs to get corrected. Then they all pat themselves on the back for the surgery that ensured the survival of the human race.

At first, I was wondering about reproduction, but then they said it was possible if you planned for it. It sounded like a gift of birth control that they could never accidently get a girl pregnant.

It always boils down to parents doing what's right for their kid and not what society says is right, whether it's circumcision or "correction" of something that doesn't need correcting.

I feel like the other commenter summed it up pretty well, but this is one of the strangest things I've seen. People sure find a lot of weird ways to justify things.

I've been thinking about this one.

Nowhere does the author explicitly assume the role of "patriarchy-dismantling feminist", nor does she directly attack men or masculinity....but it still seems to reek of an anti-masculine perspective to me. It's more subtle than most feminist pieces, though, and uses the victimization of males, and subtle mocking of the concept of masculinity (do you have to stand up to pee to be a "real man") to get sympathy for her apparent cause of getting men to sit down to pee.

I'm going to do a bit of a fisking on this...it's more subtle than usual, but it's a minefield of biases.

Have too? No, but I can't seem to work up any objection to the surgeries whatsoever.

Correction of cleft palates is also done for similar reasons, i.e. "it's normal".
