The report is not about overall size, which is effected by body size. What it focuses on is the fact that different functional areas are larger in males or females. These differences cannot be explained by relative body size. Looking at it briefly earlier today, it is interesting to see that women having larger orbitofrontal cortices (brain over the eye sockets), which is related to social thinking. Men have larger areas in the some parietal areas associated with spatial intelligence and certain types of instrumental problem solving. It conforms to earlier data about differences in the performance on different cognitive tasks by men and women.

It has to be noted that this is a statistical trend across many, many studies (1000s, impressively). There will be some women and men that vary in different ways, diverging from these trends. But it is very cool.

There is a trend of science writers attacking these studies, usually following the lead of some feminist bloggers. Don't believe this nonsense. There have been a long series of studies showing similar results. On average, men and women have brains with slightly different patterns of connectivity and increases in the size of particular regions.

There's still research to be done, of course... tissue density is affected by environmental factors as well as biological (I believe they address this in the writeup, talking about teasing out relative effects on an area-by-area basis) but between this and the DTI mapping study I think the jury is in on "men and women's brains are different".

Personally, I'm interested in how trans brains may (or may not) be different from those who fit in the gender binary. Sadly there seems to be not a whole lot of literature on that yet, and certainly not enough to provide convincing metastudies covering thousands of individuals.

^Edit Neurosciencegasm - longitudinal study of large coterie of trans individuals (mtf and ftm) pre, during and post transition. Probably not "sexy" enough to be nobel material, but it sure as fuck would be interesting.

Strange, because I'm pretty sure we were just talking about stuff like "hey, wouldn't it be interesting if we could get some actual empirical evidence on the structure of trans brains to see if it might reveal something concrete about the neurophysiology of the trans condition"... you know, because there's an actual dearth of physical evidence in that area.

Please, show me where "all these sciences", from medical to psychological to biology, support your assertions... 'cuz without them, you sound a whole lot like a bigoted douchenozzle.

^Edit PS - How are you complaining that science is "faith based", but still used it to support your position? You know, with that "evidence" you claim points in the opposite direction? Unless maybe that evidence just appeared fully formed in your brain, or on Stormfront.
