Domestic Violence: Men Vs. Women. Read this and tell me what you get out of it?

It doesn't say what percentage of violence is done by men. It does say that 40% of men are victims. This could lead some people to assume that this translates into 60% of the violence is caused by men, but this is a mistake. The logical possibilities are as follows: female victim; male victim; bi-directional victimization (or, no victim). If all things were equal, we should expect 33% of males to be victims, 33% of females to be victims, and 33% of the time both partners are victims/abusers. (and this all assumes we're only talking about heterosexual intimates).

If I was forced to extrapolate, I would say this article implies that in 40% of the cases only females are violent, and in some smaller number of cases men are violent.

Also...

"This sends a dangerous message to men because we are saying they are not going to get any legal redress so their option instead is to hit back."

"Hitting back" has nothing to do with legal redress. Hitting back disables your attacker and is a proportionate measure given the necessity of preventing further injury at the hands of an imminent attacker.

based solely on the article I'd guess 39% or lower.

I read that 50% of violence was initiated by a woman and that 40% of the victims were men. Could mean that they only counted injuries or that 20% of the female initiators had the fight turn on them or ....
