Thoughts on playing poker?

I'm a semi professional poker player. Played in Vegas, Macau, Philippines, Goa. Won a couple of semi-major tournaments. Still looking to win my first major tournament. Well known as a cash game shark in my city. Made tons of money in cash games, even lost a lot!

Poker is a fucking amazing game, that's only if you're disciplined and know bank roll management. Don't put all your eggs into poker right away, keep it as a side activity. The biggest mistake 90% poker players make (including me) is blowing away your winnings. This is where bankroll management come into play. Keep your winnings as if they were winnings out of hard work and skill. Treat them like actual savings. This will take you leaps and bounds forward.

Its true, an average skilled by disciplined player will last much longer than a very high skilled but undisciplined player.

Poker is insanely fun and insanely thrilling. You can make a LOT OF money if you're good. Poker will help you learn skills to read people.

Be careful

I used to live in Las Vegas and would play at the casinos there.

Too many guys think because they watch poker on TV and can beat their friends, that they can make money doing it.

Want to know if you are actually good? Go to Las Vegas. Play 10 daily $60 tournaments. If you win 7 or more, you might be good. Keyword, might. If not, you aren't at the level you need to be for it to be a money maker.

If I had a dime for every guy I met in Las Vegas who moved there in order to "make it as a professional poker player".... same with people who think they can move to Las Vegas to be a professional blackjack player(hah), sports gambler(hah) or video poker player(hah).

I was playing semi professional midstakes online during the golden years while I was studying. Easy money could be made. If I could do it all again I would have put my studies on hold a few years and would have went ballsdeep into poker. Now the poker ecomy is basically dead.

Many concepts can be applied to TRP like mental warfare, holding frame, ego loss and handling swings. Good for socializing in rl. Online, most of the top players were/are a bunch of rich nerds who've lost and or never had social skills.

Poker is great, and like someone already said, a parallel can be drawn between poker concepts and TRP (I would even go as far as saying you can actually draw this parallel between poker and your everyday life, to some extent).

After understanding that it all comes down to statistics and variance you can apply this same perspective to many other aspects in your everyday life.

Discipline, logical thinking, reading people (when playing live), outcome independance, handling yourself under pressure... skills and concepts that allow you to improve yourself, your mental resilience and your approach on common life events.

In the end, everyone's looking at their 2 cards and trying to make the most of it.

The only hasart game i approve is face to face poker. Cause you can learn reading people and people make mistakes. All other crap casions and online casinos are rigged. You have better chances believing in santa claus.
