I was going to post to [1] /r/law but they don't do legal advice, which is fine, I don't plan on using your responses as the gospel from on high, but I was hoping someone might be able to give me an idea of what I can and can't, should and shouldn't do, and if there is anywhere someone knows of that I can turn to.
I interviewed for a wage slave position with a major company recently and I called back 2 weeks later to ask after it and the manager said she was still making a decision, 2 weeks after that my roommate, a female, got the call and interviewed and got the job. I called during this time to ask after the job twice and the manager ducked me. The entire location was staffed by females and I got a bit of a weird vibe off the manager but at the time I just assumed it was nothing and that my roommate gave a better interview.
Now while this wasn't life crushing I have never not gotten a job I have interviewed for and it rocked my confidence. Combined with moving to a new smaller town and no other interview calls I was brought down a very amount by all this.
Tonight my roommate informs me that the manager told a coworker, who told told the shift supervisor, who told my roommate, that the manager didn't like working with men and therefore just didn't hire them. I know for certain of another guy that has been trying to get a job there for months and that this manager does interviews for at least two stores in the area. I don't care about or even really want to get the job at least not under her but what she is doing is wrong and I should be stopped even if all I can do is hitch my wagon to that of the guy still trying to get the job to make his complaint stronger.
I want to do something about this, I am not out for blood per say but I gave a good interview I still don't have a job and what she is doing is just wrong. At the same time I worry about being offered and accepting a job with the company under the circumstances of this kind of complaint and I don't want to do anything that could harm my friend since she loves the job.
I am not afraid to get litigious or even just put in a formal complaint but I want to know what my options are and how I can reasonably expect this all to play out.
p.s. There is a rumor that the manager brings booze to work in a thermos around the holidays... Seriously this woman needs help.
