I was walking around town wearing my nice watch (which is what I think caught his attention). As I was walking to where I needed to be I heard someone yell "hey man, come here a sec". I took a quick glance and saw this old black man in a tracksuit heading towards me. I assumed him to be homeless and expected him to be asking for change and so ignored him (like I always do). He then yelled again repeating what he had said, I turned around again and then continued to ignore him which was probably a mistake. He then went mental and started threatening to "smash my head in".
I've never had someone talk to me like this before so I was kind of shocked but at the same time not threatened since, I'm not exactly huge but I do lift and believed I could have defended myself if needed be. He then walked away, we were approximately 20 meters apart the whole encounter.
How should I have responded? Should I have just said something like "I'm busy" or was my ignoring of him sort of asking for it; keeping in mind I always do that and have never had a problem? I know a few people that if they were in my shoes they would have definitely confronted him and wanted to fight, which I believe to be silly.
