I am not saying it is the worst outcome, I am pointing out it isn't the best. Some single parent households are quite good I am sure, but usually a complete family with both mother and father is the best possible arrangement. My problem isn't with her or her situation. It is with the general attitude people have towards family structure, which I interpreted in the responses in this thread. There is a perverse conception that single parent households are on an equal footing with complete families in terms of the environment they create for children and the ultimate outcome they can expect. This is far from the truth as you are aware from this comment. I am fully aware that in specific cases a single parent household is better than two if the ousted one is abusive or something like that. However, I think it is important to remember that the general trend is 2 parents are better than 1. Acknowledging that exceptions exist does not mean that single parent households should be encouraged to form, which I think is currently a common social trend.

I think the main problem here has been the proper communication of what I am actually taking issue with. That is, an abstract belief of the culture rather than this woman in particular.

And neither do you.

Statistically single parent households are not as good as complete families.

Really? Prove it. With statistics. Because IMO single-parent households are much better than two-parent households filled with physical abuse and drug dependency, which is why I am a sigle parent.

Though sometimes it is an unavoidable, it is never a situation to strive for and praise.

Why not? I think it's better to praise someone for being a good parent, single or not, than to do what you are doing, and taking a shit all over someone simply because she is not fucking her son's father any more.

May issue is with reddit acting like this is a good situation, when in fact it isn't.

Reddit isn't acting like anything. And it's a neutral situation. Neither good. Nor bad.
