Eh... no, I can't see any woman favouritism going on here. It seems fair to say that she went spontaneously psychotic after going off the medication, the order that "she be detained at a secure mental health unit" seems fair in that regards, and it's hard to blame her for going off the medication when she even consulted her doctor.

I'm not a fan of the temporary insanity argument. Statistically people on psychiatric medication are more likely to the victim of crime than the rest of the population and less likely to perpetrate crime than the rest of the population. It's a hollywood trope of the dangerous crazy person.

Moral of the story: DO NOT FUCK AROUND WITH ANTIDEPRESSANTS. You take exactly the amount your doctor tells you to take, and you never quit cold turkey. You must wean off of them. Her doctor is a fucking moron for telling her it's okay to just stop taking them. Who you are, your morality, and your rationality is based entirely on a delicate balance of chemicals and hormones in your brain. One little imbalance can completely change you.

She's obviously not completely free of responsibility, because she is the one who made the terrible decision to quit her medicine cold turkey (though the advice from her doctor certainly didn't help). But manslaughter seems appropriate here, and serious psychiatric therapy.

Under the circumstances of post-pregnancy depression or whatever the fuck it's called I would say this is definitely a fair judgement of her actions.

And it's not like she was let loose afterwards, she's basically insane. They detained her under the mental health act
