I was invited to a party by a platonic female friend. She had a very attractive friend, "Carrie". During the party, I talked to Carrie for a while. I tried a bit of kino - touched her back a couple times, and tapped her leg a couple times while we were sitting next to each other when emphasizing a point. I absolutely never touched her butt, boobs, or anything like that, and I didn't grab or rub her leg - just kind of tapped her with the back of my hand for a split second a handful of times. We talked for about an hour, and as far as I could tell she was enjoying talking to me. We had both been drinking.
The next day, I got a very long angry text from the mutual friend. Carrie told her that I was being creepy, that I was touching her without her permission, and following her around as she tried to get away from me. That she was afraid of me. Nothing she was saying was false, but I truly had no idea she had interpreted it so negatively. I had no clue she was trying to get away from me! If I knew that, I would have just stopped trying to talk to her. We did move from one conversation to another a few times, which I guess is what she was talking about, but at the time it didn't seem like that at all, she would continue to talk to me as we moved around, and at no point did Carrie say anything to me suggesting that she was uncomfortable or not to touch her.
The mutual friend has said that she wants to talk to me to "get my side of the story" but I don't even know what to say. I'm afraid of admitting that I did something wrong and painting myself into a corner where I could be charged with something. I have no idea how to respond to these texts she is sending me. I thought we had been good friends, but the way she is talking I feel like she's already decided I'm "a creep" and that her friend couldn't possibly be wrong, so engaging her further seems very high-risk/no gain.
Any advice on how to proceed would be appreciated. Would I need to talk to a lawyer or anything? Is there any salvaging the friendship? I obviously will never contact Carrie again, so I can't see apologizing to her as being an option.
