I'm a male college student living with my dad. A few years ago, he started dating this woman, Renee. Throughout their relationship, Renee was very manipulative and constantly badmouthed my mother and tried to drive a wedge between my dad and my sister, my mother, and myself. The day before my dad had a heart surgery, he married Renee in case something went wrong. He didn't want her to be left in the dust. This was October of last year.

After they got married, everything went down the drain. They had a huge argument in January about my dog, who she hated. I heard them arguing downstairs, so I looked down from the banister and saw her at the foot of the stairs. She was looking towards the couch, which I'm sure was where my dad was sitting. He said that he would choose my dog over her any day of the week, and she called him an asshole. I can't remember what else was said but my dad didn't say anything threatening whatsoever. I went downstairs and my dad took me to pick up one of my friends, and when we got home, Renee was gone. This took place on January 29th.

Everything was great without her there for about a month and a half. On March 12th, while my sister and her boyfriend visiting from out of state, the sheriffs showed up with a restraining order against my dad. He was at work at the time, and I told the sheriffs that since I was a minor and not listed on the restraining order, that I didn't have to leave the house. They said I was wrong, and gave me about 5 minutes to decide what items I absolutely needed. There was no guaranty that I would see any other items of mine again.

I had to find a place to live and keep three dogs, while going to school (I was still in high school,) without a car. My dad took me to a family friend's house, but it soon became apparent that I couldn't keep all of the dogs there. I called my therapist (who is also a lawyer) and asked him if the sheriffs had any legal ground to remove me from the house that I had lived in for about two years. He said that since I was not listed on the restraining order, that I could stay. I also called my neighbor, a parole officer, and he told me the same thing.

That night, my dad took me to the house with the dogs. He stayed 100 yards away, as mandated in the order against him, and I attempted to gain entry to the house. Renee had changed the lock to the front door, so I kicked in the door to the garage, since it was locked and I didn't have a key. Once I was in the garage, I tried the door into the house, but it was locked too. I found a crowbar, and broke through the door, and I was in the house. I put the dogs in the backyard and fed them.

I invited my best friend over, because I was scared shitless. I really wouldn't have put it past Renee to come home, find me there, lock herself in the bathroom, beat herself up, and claim I had done it. She showed up about an hour after I had entered the house, and immediately called the sheriffs. When the sheriffs arrived, they took statements, and concluded that I had no right to be at the house, even though it was my place of residence, and Renee had not lived there since January 22nd. I was served with a restraining order a couple days later at school.

I left two of my dogs with the neighbor who I had called regarding the legality of the sheriffs actions. The other one, a puppy, stayed with my dad and me, and we checked into a motel. The next day, my dad called a lawyer to try to get an order to show cause for an ex parte hearing, and was denied. The hearing date was still April 2nd.

I spent the next 3 weeks with my dog at various friends' houses, mostly with the family friend. My dad stayed with a former workmate who lived about an hour away. I only saw him a few times during that period.

On the day of the hearing, I was more scared than I had ever been in my entire life. This was it, either we would get back into the house or we would be homeless for another - likely longer - period of time. I did everything I could to make myself as credible as possible. I shaved my rather hairy face, I bought pants to cover up the tattoo on my leg, and I wore a button-up shirt. My dad and I arrived at the court and sat through several restraining order hearings, all of which were awarded to the female - none of the male perpetrators actually showed up. The female judge sounded like a man-hating victim-lover.

Renee showed up at virtually the last moment, and she looked like shit. I'm sure she wanted the "battered wife" look, and if one didn't know the situation, I'm sure that's what she looked like. I had to leave the room when the hearing started, since I was a minor at the time.

The bailiff brought me to the witness stand so I could testify against Renee, who said that on January 29th, my dad had pushed her down, spit in her face, and told her to "get the fuck out." I stated that I had seen and heard the argument, and that none of that happened. I also said that it had occurred on January 22nd, not January 29th.

The judge found my testimony credible, and restraining order against my dad was lifted. She decided that she still wanted to have a restraining order against me. I had to hire my dad's lawyer on the spot since I didn't expect to have a hearing; my restraining order should have been voided since it was only served because of the restraining order against my dad. Which was just lifted as the basis of the order was just proven to be fabricated. In fact, Renee had illegally put her own name on the house title on January 26th. That's why she claimed that the fight had happened on the 29th; so it would appear that my dad had willingly put her name on the deed and that they were still happily married.

Long story shorter, Renee tried using the sympathy card to appeal to the judge. She didn't even show up with a lawyer, how was she supposed to have a case? Luckily, it didn't matter. The restraining orders were lifted. My dad and I could go back home.

The story isn't over. When we got to the house, Renee was there, packing up some of her things. After a barrage of insults directed toward my father and myself, she left. I wasn't comfortable in the house for months. Every waking moment, I was afraid that the police would show up, and I would be taken from my home again. Renee clearly was not afraid to lie to law enforcement, so I wondered what lie she would concoct next.

This whole time, my dad had been trying to serve her with divorce papers, and since he had no clue where she lived or worked, it was impossible to serve her. On August 29th, after I turned 18, he tried to lured her to the house so I could serve her. She believed that he wanted her back, and that I had moved in with my mom out of state. That morning, my dad was driving me to the DMV so I could take my drivers license test. We were in my sister's car, which I don't think Renee recognized, and as we were pulling out of the driveway, my dad spotted her car in our neighbor's driveway. I quickly went into the house, grabbed the divorce papers, and started recording.

Renee's window was open, and she was looking down at her phone. I actually had about $20 in quarters in my pockets so I was pretty loud. I arrived at her car, served her the papers, and said "You've been served." She tried pushing the papers out of my hand, and in the process hits my shoulder. She called me an asshole and a motherfucker, and then said that I couldn't serve her since I was a family member, which was absolutely not true.

My dad took me to the DMV after she left, and I filed a police report when I got home. The sheriff was hesitant to even take a report, but after I explained the situation and everything that this woman had put me and my dad through, he agreed to take one. I pressed charges for battery, and although I knew nothing would come of it, I wanted it to be known that this woman was insane.

I just wanted to get this all written down and shared with this subreddit. Thanks for reading.
