The high court rejected those arguments and questioned the department's motives, noting that an employee at the agency wanted to adopt the toddler.

Lambasted? Really? It was incredible to the state supreme court that a 3-year-old American child's interests might be best served by not being taken away from the people who have raised her since infancy and sent to a foreign country to live with a stranger?

I can actually understand why the state supreme court overturned the lower court's ruling. But I wish they'd been brave enough to acknowledge the terrible harm they are doing to the child in furtherance of her presumptive biological father's rights. (There is no proof that this guy is her biological father, BTW, but since he was married to her biological mother at the time of her conception and has affirmed paternity, the court regards him as the legal father).

Another note: it's very common for people who work for social services to be foster parents. Social service agencies are huge. It's also very common for people who've had a placement for over two years to be interested in adoption. The foster parent isn't working this case, or even in the foster division of the agency, and the "kidnapping" accusations are ridiculous and insulting.
