Oh pleeeeeease Katherine Feeney. Impart your wisdom on me. Please tell me the details that historians, anthropologists, warfare analysts [and generally anyone with common sense,] have known since time immemorial: governments use [and are sometimes destroyed by,] their youthful male populations.

And while being young is grand, being young and poor isn't, especially if you're educated enough to expect better. ... But women are less likely to mind than men, the New America Foundation thinker postulates. Men, promised so much, used to much more, are more likely to feel massively ripped off.

Could it possibly be, that women don't care, because they always have marriage to fall back on? Or in the western nations, serial monogamy with whatever boyfriend she can find? Could it be that women's programs and government social nets are spent to the tune of 100 to 1 for specific male issues?

What is left for your average male when the economy crumbles? Military, minimum subsistence [without the ability to support a family,] crime? Maybe just prison, as many societies throughout history have chosen to do?

Finally, please tell me, oh wise Ms Feeney, why you chose to not mention the article you were speaking about was specifically talking about developing countries, where there are decades of systematic government abuse, 30%+ unemployment and quite seriously no prospects for many men besides poverty or death? Why did you choose to translate that to western nations and once again harp on the idiotic "man up," meme?

I took to Twitter with my question and was amused by a squad of responses from dudes using caps lock to say, jokingly, WHO? ANGRY? ME?!?!

Yet a couple emailed, saying they thought yes, there was some kind of rage bubbling away beneath their housed, sheltered, well-fed exteriors. Some blamed video games. Others blamed women/feminism/their mothers.

You conflate two distinctly different concepts: the plight of the male in developing nations, with growing discontent of men in developed western nations [and the fact you, and apparently everyone else, find them unfavorable for choosing not to play your games.]

Being not a bloke, I can't answer. So I ask. Anger - is it a guy thing? And why?

Why don't you ask your sexist labour party? Why not ask your corrupt family courts? Why not ask Julia Gillard? Why not ask your women's organizations who fight against 50/50 custody?

Who gets the majority of government spending? Who has marriage to fall back on? Who has most of society screaming at them to fit into the mold they want?

If she really wants to know why we as men are "Angry" all she needs to do is watch this little rant in Fight club. played out? Probably a little, but it's pretty accurate.

We are the middle children of history, boys and we've got nothing great to call our own. It was all taken before we could lay claim to it, taken by social policy, by Government and by corruption. This isn't the fault of feminism, this is the fault of greedy old men that won't stop until they either die or control it all. We are told to be happy with "less" while the rich just get fatter and take what they want. Society has forgotten us.
